1 Siblings September 5, 2014 Dear Volunteers, Thank you for your interest in the Boston University Community Service Center s Siblings Program. Siblings is a one-on-one mentoring program that matches BU volunteers with students from Boston elementary schools. In the past, we have collaborated with Winship Elementary, Jackson Mann Elementary School, St. Patrick s Elementary School, and Edison School. The Little Siblings applicant pool consists of children who either want a Big Sibling (BU student) or are recommended by their teachers and parents. The amount of time spent together, as well as activities done, will largely be established at the discretion of Siblings pairs as long as they fall within the program guidelines. Siblings is a two-semester long commitment and volunteers are expected to spend a minimum of three to five hours every other week with their Little Siblings, participating in a variety of activities (playing in the park, eating in the dining hall, playing games, or watching a movie together). Big Siblings are required to log their time spent with the Little Siblings and meet with their Peer Leader every two weeks to discuss the progression of their relationship with their Little Sib. Volunteers also commit to attending two program wide meetings one at the beginning and end of the semester. We are looking for dedicated volunteers, who wish to take on more responsibility in the Siblings program to apply for the Peer Leader position. Peer Leaders will manage smaller groups of Big Sibs and will hold one hour in the CSC per week in order to assist with various tasks throughout the year such as helping plan our larger events such as our Halloween and holiday parties. The Peer Leaders play significant roles in fostering a community among the Big Siblings. As a Peer Leader, you will serve as a liaison between the volunteers and the Program Managers. The Peer Leader application can be found after the Big Sibling application. If you apply for a Peer Leader position, we will reach out to you about scheduling an individual interview. As a role model and mentor to a child who may have not had one before, volunteers become an important part in their Little Sib s life. We look forward to reading your application and getting to know you. In addition to the following application, please complete the CORI, Release and Authorization, and Disclosure and Acknowledgement forms that can be found on the CSC website. These forms cannot be double sided. Applications must be handed into the Community Service Center office (GSU 4 th floor) by Friday September 19th. When you hand in your application, you will be provided with a group interview sign-up sheet. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at , or us at siblings@bu.edu. Sincerely, Annie Duerr and Stefanie Grossano Siblings Program Managers
