1 ATC-1 Clearance Delivery Version 1.0 This is the RealFsx Clearance Delivery Guide. This guide includes advanced phraseology that each ATC-1 must learn and understand. The word shall will appear throughout the guide just as it does in the (ATC Bible). Shall means must, just as it does in the This guide was created by Ryan Foss for the sole use of RealFsx.org and its Members. Distribution of this document and/or its content is strictly prohibited. Clearance Delivery Clearance Delivery is the Air Traffic Control Process and forward flight plan information. Delivery is in charge of giving aircraft their initial altitudes, headings, frequencies and squawk codes. This position intensely works hand-in-hand with Flight Strips. Be sure to review the current RealFsx ATC SOP Handbook for all flight strip procedures. For full Clearance Delivery procedures, reference JO Section 2. The initial altitude given to aircraft on an IFR flight plan is based on a standard determined by the classification of the airspace. The altitudes are in AGL as follows: Airspace Altitude (AGL) Bravo 5,000 Charlie 4,000 Delta 3,000 Basic Clearance sequence: (Shall ONLY be given when SID does not exist at airport) 1
2 CLEARANCE: RFX925, cleared to [airport name] airport as filed, fly direct [fix/waypoint/via airway] maintain [AGL altitude based on airspace], expect [filed altitude] 1-0 minutes after departure, departure frequency [frequency], squawk [code]. PILOT: Cleared to [airport name] airport as filed, after departure fly direct [fix/waypoint/via airway] maintain [AGL altitude based on airspace], expect [filed altitude] 1-0 minutes after departure, departure frequency [frequency], squawk [code], RFX925. During this time, you will add the current ATIS letter to the end of their flight strip per the RealFsx ATC SOP Handbook. Once strip-marking is complete, pass strip. Standard Instrument Departures (SID) SIDs will be issued by RealFsx Clearance controllers to ALL IFR aircraft at airports with these procedures available. If aircraft cannot accept a SID due to lack of equipment or charts, utilize the Basic Clearance sequence. During the ATC Briefing, all controllers will review the SID to be used during that control period. This is often determined by which runway configuration is in use. SIDs will be taught in detail during your training. RNAV SID Clearance sequence: 2

4 If the issued SID does not include a fix from the aircraft s initial flight plan, RealFsx controllers shall issue a Full Route Clearance. Ammended Clearance sequence: CLEARANCE: RFX925, I have your clearance with amendments, advise when ready to copy CLEARANCE: RFX925, cleared to [airport name] airport VIA the [SID name], [SID transition], direct [fix/waypoint/via airway] direct [airport name], maintain [AGL altitude based on airspace], expect [filed altitude] 1-0 minutes after departure, departure frequency [frequency], squawk [code]. PILOT: Cleared to [airport name] airport VIA the [SID name], [SID transition], direct [fix/waypoint/via airway] direct [airport name], maintain [AGL altitude based on airspace], expect [filed altitude] 1-0 minutes after departure, departure frequency [frequency], squawk [code], RFX925 VFR Clearance (At Bravo & Charlie Airspaces) When a VFR aircraft is in a Bravo or Charlie airspace looking to depart the airspace, they can choose to open a VFR flight plan with clearance delivery. Due to the high traffic flow in and out of these airspaces, VFR aircraft have less leeway and freedom. There are many similarities between an IFR and VFR Clearance that you ll notice. While VFR aircraft won t typically be flying to a specific fix after departure as an IFR aircraft would, Delivery does need to know an approximate direction of flight from VFR aircraft. Delivery also needs to know what the cruise altitude of the flight will be. Once this information has been gathered from the pilot, the Delivery controller gives the pilot an altitude that they need to stay at or below when inside the limits of the Bravo or Charlie airspace, then the departure frequency, then a squawk code. 4
5 VFR Clearance Sequence: PILOT: Good Afternoon Atlanta Clearance, Cessna 1234B CLEARANCE: Cessna 1234B, Atlanta Clearance PILOT: Clearance, Cessna 1234B is at the general aviation ramp, we re a Cessna 172, VFR 6,500 to Newnan-Coweta Airport Charlie-Charlie-Oscar (CCO). CLEARANCE: 1234B, say on course heading for destination. (You re looking for the heading they ll fly to get to their destination.) PILOT: on course to Charlie-Charlie-Oscar, 1234B CLEARANCE: Roger, standby (During this time, you as the Clearance controller should gather the information that you ll be giving them. You ll need the initial (safe) altitude that they should maintain within the Bravo or Charlie airspace, the departure frequency and a VFR squawk code to give them. This is also the time to enter the OCH: on to the flight strip per the RealFsx ATC SOP Handbook) CLEARANCE: 1234B, we have your clearance, advise when ready to copy. PILOT: Ready to copy, 1234B CLEARANCE: 1234B maintain VFR at 2,000, expect requested altitude 1-0 minutes after departure, departure frequency is one-two-five-point-seven, squawk PILOT: 1234B VFR 2,000, expecting 6,500 in 1-0 minutes, departure is one-two-five-pointseven, squawk For phraseology and procedural clarification, please refer to the current JO For specific RealFsx procedures please refer to the current ATC SOP Handbook.
