1 Kaltura The course gallery is where all the Kaltura video content is stored for the course. You may manage the visibility, creation, and removal of content through the gallery. *Note: The Windows 10 browser Edge and Google Chrome versions 45+ do not function with Kaltura. They do not support java or plug-ins. Adding Content to the Course Gallery 1. Begin by accessing the course you would like to add media to. 2. Navigate to the Control Panel. 3. Go to Course Tools. 4. Select Course Gallery. 5. Select the Add Media button. You may choose to Upload Media/Record from Webcam or Record your Screen. The next section will cover the media options. Upload Media If you have a video that you have already recorded and you would like to use this in your course, then Upload Media is the option you want to choose. The video does not have to be in a specific video file format. To get started: 1. Navigate to the Control Panel. 2. Go to the Course Tools Section. 3. Select Course Gallery. 4. Select on the Add Media button. 5. Choose Upload Media/Record from Webcam. 6. Under the Upload Tab, select on the Browse button. 7. Locate the video you want to load. 8. Select Open. 9. Choose the Upload button. 10. Select the Next button. 11. Make sure to give the video a title, description, and add tags. 12. Once the video is completed it will appear in the Course Gallery. *Note: By default the video will be hidden. Refer Hidden Content to change the status. Page 1 of 7
2 Record from Webcam When recording from your webcam you may record messages to students, a short introduction to a lesson, or provide a subject lecture. To begin recording your session, follow the instructions below: 1. Navigate to the Control Panel. 2. Go to Course Tools. 3. Select Course Gallery. 4. Select on the Add Media button. 5. Select Upload Media/Record from Webcam. 6. Select the Webcam Tab on the left side of the media window. 7. Select from the drop down menu your recording device. 8. Select Record. 9. Select Stop when you are through recording. 10. Select Next. 11. Enter a Title, any Tags, and a Description for the video. (Tags help users search for your content.) 12. Select the Next button and the video will load into your Course Gallery. *Note: By default the video will be hidden. Refer to Hidden Content to change the status. Page 2 of 7
3 Record Your Screen To begin recording your screen follow the instructions below: 1. Navigate to the Control Panel. 2. Go to the Course Tools Section. 3. Select Course Gallery 4. Select on the Add Media button. 5. Choose Record your Screen *Note: You may need to update your java in order for this to work. 6. The recording window will appear as a box (with a hashed outline); you may drag this or resize the window as needed. 7. When you are ready for the recording, select the Record button. 8. The window will count down (3, 2, 1) and then it will begin recording. 9. Once the recording is completed, select Done. *Note: You may also restart the recording if needed. 10. When you are ready to publish the video fill in the Title, Description, and Tags. 11. Select Upload. 12. Select Close to the Kaltura player window after the video has been processed. 13. Once the video has been published, the video thumbnail image will appear in the Course Gallery. Page 3 of 7
4 Hidden Content Hidden content is content that has been added to the course via the course gallery and is not available to students. When content is converted and added it appears as hidden in the Course Gallery. Before an instructor can add the content to a designated area in the course they must make the content available. 1. To make content available for use in the course: 2. Go to the Control Panel in the course you want to make media available. 3. Go to Course Tools. 4. Select Course Gallery. 5. Select the title of the video you want to modify. 6. The video will appear in the window to the right. 7. Select the checkbox Make this Item Public in Gallery. It will automatically save the changes. 8. The words Hidden will no longer appear under the movie title. Now the content may be added to the course. Deploying Content Instructors may add content to the course by loading a video into Kaltura Media, upload a video in the Course Gallery, or choose to record from a webcam or quick screen capture. Once the media has been added to the course, the instructor will need to deploy the content for student viewing. Adding Media as a Standalone Content Item When an instructor adds content to the course through the Kaltura Media Tool, they are adding a video as a standalone content item. This would be comparable to adding a YouTube video to your Blackboard Course. 1. Go to the course you want to add media to 2. Select a Content Area to add media to. 3. Select the Tools button. 4. Choose Kaltura Media from the drop down menu. Page 4 of 7
5 5. When the Add Media Content window appears, give your media a name. 6. Go down to Add Media and select Add Media 7. When the pop-up window opens, select My Content 8. Select Search 9. Find the video you would like to add and choose the Next button. 10. Once a media item was selected, a thumbnail of the media is displayed. 11. Create a Title for the content. 12. Optionally add text in the text editor. 13. Make sure to choose your desired Options. 14. Select Submit to add the media content to the content list and to the course gallery if selected. The video will appear as a thumbnail image. Removing Content There are several reasons why content needs to be removed or suspended from Kaltura. When removing content, be sure that this is content that does not need to be reused at a later time. Removing Content from a Course If the instructor would like to remove content from their course, they may simply: 1. Select on the Course Tools section of the Control Panel in the desired course. 2. Select Course Gallery. 3. Select the video you want to remove. 4. Under the viewer screen on the right side, you will see the video s description. 5. Select Remove from Course. 6. The content will be deleted from the course. Page 5 of 7
6 Suspending Content In addition, there may be cases when suspending content may be appropriate. In this case, the content is still accessible in the course gallery, but not active in the Blackboard course. To suspend content from use, simply: 1. Select on the Course Tools section of the Control Panel in the desired course. 2. Choose Course Gallery. 3. Select the video you want to suspend from use. 4. Under the viewer screen on the right side, you will see the video s description. 5. Uncheck the box Make this item Public in Gallery. 6. The content will be unavailable for students in the course. *Note: When a video is suspended (not public) the video is still accessible in the gallery and can be changed from hidden to public. Once the content is public it can be made available to students. Page 6 of 7
7 Course Media Module Inside of Blackboard you may add a Course Media module to the Module page. This allows you the opportunity to display a series of videos on the home page. To get started follow these instructions: 1. From inside the course. 2. Navigate to the Control Panel. 3. Select Course Tools. 4. Select Course Gallery from the menu. 5. Find the video you want to appear in the Course Media module. 6. Select the link to Add to Gallery module on course homepage box. The video will now appear in the module. To make the module available to the students 7. Select your module page. 8. Select the Add Course Module button. 9. Find Course Media in the list. 10. Choose the Add button. You may move the module to a desired location on the page by Selecting on the title and dragging to the new location. Releasing the mouse will place the module in the new location. *Note: The videos in the Course Media module appear from the most recently recorded to the oldest video. If you wish to only show a certain video, return to the course gallery and uncheck the videos you do not want to appear. Page 7 of 7
