5 Sar performance All hree hopial have been commended for providing qualiy healhcare in he naional performance ar raing. The Tru wa awarded 2 ar, which mean we are performing well overall. Henry aged 73, from Birmingham explain: During one of my day ou I realied I wa becoming breahle and hen uffered pain in my che. I had e a he hopial and wa diagnoed a needing a riple bypa operaion. Surgeon a Walgrave Hopial ued a pioneering procedure called 'beaing hear' urgery. Thi involve uing pecial device which enabled me o have he operaion wihou having o be conneced o a hear and lung machine. Inead of ju meeing he Governmen' arge o reduce he number of people waiing for an operaion, we exceeded i by carrying ou an exra 4,000 operaion. Thi mean our hopial now have ome of he hore waiing ime in he counry. Our arge wa o reduce he number of people on he waiing li o 5780 by 31 March A he beginning of January 2003, here were almo 9,500 people waiing. By he end of March he Tru had 5568 people waiing which i 200 le han he arge. A well a having le people on he waiing li we have worked hard o reduce he lengh of ime paien wai for an operaion. Already no paien wai over 12 monh for an inpaien or daycae operaion and no hear paien wai more han 9 monh for heir urgery. We alo me our arge o have no paien waiing more han 21 week for heir fir oupaien appoinmen and many of hem were, in fac, een wihin four week. In addiion he Tru implemened he full year effec of he Commiion for Healh Improvemen (CHI) Acion Plan, whil igning he New Hopial Projec (NHP) Agreemen, aring he raniion plan and acually moving ino ome of he new faciliie ha he projec will deliver. The Tru mainained i enviable record of achieving a balanced income and expendiure poiion, generaing a urplu of 6,000 in 2002/03. In order o mainain financial balance he Tru received planned non-recurren uppor of ome 17.5m in 2002/03, hi being ued o uppor he NHP ( 14.1m) and he CHI acion plan and oher co preure ( 2m). The Tru alo provided brokerage of 1.4m o he Sraegic Healh Auhoriy via a SaFF reducion. REMUNERATION COMMITTEE The remuneraion and erm of ervice of Execuive Direcor of he Tru are deermined by he Remuneraion Commiee, which comprie olely of he Chairman and Non-Execuive Direcor of he Tru. The Commiee review he alarie of Execuive Direcor each year and agree wih he Chief Execuive a he commencemen of he year performance crieria again which all Execuive Direcor will be meaured. The remuneraion of he Chairman and Non-Execuive Direcor i deermined naionally by he Secreary of Sae for Healh in common wih all NHS Tru, and applied in accordance wih appropriae noificaion.
