11 Stainless steel billets supplied to Tubacex Tubacex, a leading producer of seamless tube, needed a suitable stainless steel for producing tubes meant for aggressive environments in the chemical, petrochemical, and power generation industries. Outokumpu Therma 253 MA billet was the starting material for production of seamless tubes optimized for very high service temperatures. Therma 253 MA fulfilled the tough requirements for oxidation and erosion-corrosion resistance up to 1150 C/2100 F, and also has excellent mechanical strength at high temperatures. Developing the new product required extensive cooperation between Tubacex and Outokumpu. 11
