2 Head Coach Greg Ruffin PAINE COLLEGE Gregory Ruffin is entering his second year at Paine College as head football coach after being hired to lead the Lions in March of Although he is new to Paine, Ruffin is not new to football or the re-creation of a program. Over the years, Ruffin has been an integral part of two different programs as they resurrected their football programs after lengthy absences (Shaw University in 2002 and Lincoln University in 1999). Ruffin came to Paine College from Texas Southern University (TSU) in Houston, Texas, where he served as the recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach during the 2012 season. Prior to TSU, he served six seasons at Jackson State University helping the program win the 2007 Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship and have a runner-up finish in In his duties at Jackson State, Ruffin served as the recruiting coordinator and running backs coach. Coach Ruffin came to JSU from Tuskegee University where he served as running backs coach under Head Coach Rick Comegy. Before his arrival at Tuskegee in 2005, Ruffin served one season (2004) as defensive assistant coach at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Prior to Ouachita Baptist, he served one year (2002) as head football coach at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he resurrected their football program after a 23-year hiatus, propelling the first-year program to a 7-3 record. Ruffin also spent one year at Benedict College (2001) as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. During two seasons ( ) at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri, he worked in four different capacities - offensive coordinator, wide receivers coach, strength and conditioning coach and recruiting coordinator. He served on the staff of his alma mater, Lane College, for one season (1998) as receivers coach and recruiting coordinator. His first collegiate coaching assignment was in 1997 with Kemper Military Community College in Booneville, Missouri, as the running backs coach. In 1997, Kemper Military finished 10-2 and was ranked seventh in the country in the National Junior College Athletic Association. In 1995, Ruffin coached the wide receivers and defensive backs at Northside High School in Jackson, Tennessee, and the running backs in 1996 at Jackson Central-Merry High School. Ruffin started as a freshman at quarterback at Wentworth Military Academy before transferring to Lane College in At Lane he was the starting fullback who paved the way for the late Fred Lane. Jr., who had a successful NFL career with the Carolina Panthers. In 1995, Lane posted a 9-1 record, the best in the school s history. He is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the American Football Coaches Association and the USS- SA Baseball Umpires Association. Ruffin is married to Mia B. Ruffin, and they are the parents of three. He is a graduate of Lane College (B.S. Criminal Justice) and Jackson State University (M.S. Sports Administration).

3 Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Coach Edwin Bailey Edwin Bailey is entering his second season at Paine College as the assistant head coach and offensive line coach for the football team. His wealth of experience on the professional and collegiate levels as a coach and player make a big impact for the Lions. Offensisve Coordinator Nathan Cochran Prior to Paine, Bailey has had extensive coaching and staff positions with Savannah State University, South Carolina State University, the New York/ New Jersey Hit Men of the XFL, Benedict College, Shaw University, the Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots. Bailey coached the offensive line at Savannah State in 1992 and then again from From he served as the offensive line coach at Shaw. Prior to that, Bailey coached Benedict s offensive line in In 1999, Bailey worked with the XFL as the New York/New Jersey Hit Men s offensive line coach. In 1998, Bailey switched things up a bit as South Carolina State s defensive line coach right after serving as the Area Scout Southeast for the New England Patriots from Bailey played a role in the team s 1996 AFC Championship. His other NFL experience came from being the Carolina Panthers Area Scout Southwest from His first coaching experience came in 1993 where he served as the offensive line coach for the team he formerly played for, South Carolina State. The Savannah native also played 11 years for the Seattle Seahawks as the starting left guard before retiring in He was a fifth-round draft pick and the 114th overall pick in 1981 coming out of South Carolina State. As a South Carolina State Bulldog, Bailey was voted First Team All-MEAC for the 1978, 1979 and 1980 seasons. At Tompkins High Bailey was First Team All-City in 1975 and 1976 as well as High School All-American in Nathan Cochran is entering his first season at Paine after having served at Alma College in Alma, Mich., as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. He has extensive experience coaching offenses from time at North Park University, Avila University, Lincoln University, Blackburn College, the University of Wisconsin - Platteville, Allen University and J.L. Mann High School in Greenville, S.C. At Lincoln, he served first as quarterbacks and running backs coach before progressing to head coach. There he also produced an NFL player in DT Chigbo Anunoby. The South Carolina State graduate earned a bachelor s in math and a master s in management from Webster University. As a Bulldog, Cochran played fullback and special teams from He was a threetime South Carolina State All-Academic team member and participated in the NCAA s Leadership Conference as a student-athlete in He and his 1997 team had the chance to play in the Black College National Championship also known as the McDonald s Heritage Bowl.

4 Defensive Coordinator Vincent Dancy Linebackers Coach Marcus Jamison Safeties/Special Teams/Recruiting Jacob Mathis Vincent Dancy enters as the defensive coordinator for his first season on the Lions coaching staff. Dancy comes following a playing and coaching career at Jackson State. Dancy graduated from Jackson State in 2006 with a bachelor s in criminal justice. He played linebacker and safety from Dancy also played a season for the Spokane Shock arena football team. At Jackson State, Dancy was a member of the All-American team in 2005 and he was All-SWAC first team in 2004 and He was also a three-time SWAC Player of the Week and a finalist for the SWAC Defensive Player of the Year award in Dancy then coached at Murrah High School in Jackson, Miss., for one season before returning to his alma mater in At JSU, he served as a graduate assistant before becoming the outside linebackers and safeties coach, assistant special teams coach and film coordinator. Dancy has also earned two master s degrees. He has a master s in school counseling from the University of West Alabama and a master s in physical education from Jackson State. Marcus Jamison is entering his second season on the Paine College football staff. Jamison attended Jackson State University and played football for the Tigers from During those years, he was one of the team s leaders on the defensive side of the ball and one of the top linebackers in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. He was also a member of the 2009 Jackson State team that played against Mississippi State University for the first time in school history. Jamison finished his career as the team s third leading tackler with 56 tackles. He also recorded 61 tackles in 2008 and 70 tackles in While at Jackson State, Paine head football coach Greg Ruffin was one of Jamison s coaches. Jamison then served as a student assistant at Jackson State after graduating. Jacob Mathis is entering into his second season with Paine College. Prior to joining the staff at Paine, Mathis was the defensive quality control for Texas Tech University and Georgia Southern University. While at Georgia Southern in 2012, the team won the Southern Conference Championship and advanced to the semifinals of the FCS playoffs. In 2011, Mathis was the quality control and video coordinator for a Wofford College team that competed for a Southern Conference Championship and advanced to the second round of the FCS playoffs. Mathis served as the assistant offensive line coach and video coordinator at North Greenville University in 2010, winning the Division II NCCAA National Championship. Prior to that, Mathis was a recruiting intern in 2009 helping his alma mater, Clemson, to post a top 20 recruiting class. He graduated Cum Laude from Clemson in 2005 with a bachelor s in business management and again in 2012 with his master s in Youth Development Leadership. Mathis is also a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church and the American Football Coaches Association.
