As you will recall, following thorough consultation with staff, students, parents and governors it was decided to change our uniform to one which more accurately reflects our ambitions for students and for the future of the College. I know that parents share with me the ambition of outstanding learning, achievement and behaviour for all students, all the more important in these times of recession. Our new uniform is a means of expressing this level of expectation and a way for students of expressing pride in themselves and their College. We shall expect students to wear their new uniform with pride and correctly. In particular, we shall expect students to wear their ties properly with their top shirt buttons done up. The enclosed details have been drawn up very carefully to ensure that our expectations are made clear. If, however, you are in any doubt about the acceptability of any item of clothing, please visit our website or our College Reception to see what the new uniform will look like. I know that I can count on your full support in our drive to ensure the very best for your children and in implementing our new uniform. 4 New Uniform Requirements Years 7-10 BOYS & GIRLS Compulsory Items: (available only from specified suppliers) Black College blazer with Honiton Community College logo. College tie. Plain black full length tailored trousers (not stretch, baggy, flared, or bell-bottoms - jeans, canvas, or corduroy trousers are not acceptable) which do not trail on floor. Plain white shirt with collar. Plain black school shoes only. Boots (flat-soled) are acceptable only if they are plain black and are worn inside trousers. (Girls - no dolly shoes). Plain black or white socks. Large bag suitable for carrying all equipment and books (Girls - not handbags). Girls Only: Girls may wear a black regulation skirt instead of trousers if preferred. (No pattern or additional colours visible on the skirt - A-line or straight styles, in one continuous material. Ra-Ra skirts, for example are unacceptable - knee length, no shorter than the top of the knee and no lower than the bottom of the knee - no additional detailing on the skirt such as zips on pockets, patches etc). If belts are worn they should be narrow and plain black with a normal buckle. Logos on belts and buckles are unacceptable. Hosiery - the skirt should be worn with plain white, black or grey socks. Alternatively, plain black tights may be worn. PE KIT Essential PE Kit: Navy and sky blue short-sleeved polo shirt with Honiton Community College logo. Navy shorts (short styles). Trainers - not skateboard type (non-marking soles). White socks for PE. Towel and swimming costume (Year 7 only). Additional / Optional Items (depending on sport / subject choices): Long navy and sky blue socks (for boys and girls) (dependent on sport choice / curriculum). Gum shield (rugby) (please check timetable at start of year before purchasing as the first lesson may not be until the Spring Term) (boys only). Boots for football without nylon studs (please check timetable at start of year before purchasing as the first lesson may not be until the Spring Term) (boys only) (girls if doing football). Shin pads for football (boys only) (girls if doing football). Navy and sky blue rugby / football long-sleeved shirt (for boys and girls). Navy tracksuit bottoms (for boys and girls). 5 Where to Purchase Where can I buy the new uniform? The items that are specific to Honiton Community College and bear the College logo are only available from: HONITON SPORTS or THOMAS MOORE 66 High Street Fore Street Honiton Exeter (01404) (01392) (Uniform available online - orders over 60 postage free, orders under 60 will be charged 3) Other plain items such as trousers, shirts, and PE shorts etc. that comply with our uniform policy can be purchased locally from Honiton Sports, or alternatively from the suppliers such as ASDA, TESCO, Marks & Spencer etc. If you are in any doubt about the suitability of a particular style, you will be able to check against the uniform display in Reception at the College during the Summer Term. Please check before purchasing. Please ensure all items are named. Uniform Requirements Year (one year only) Year 11 students for the 2010/11 academic year only can either: 1. Continue to wear their existing College uniform. A white shirt or blouse may be worn. Stocks of the old school uniform are very limited, however, a selection of second-hand uniform items will be available in College. 2. Opt into the new uniform completely ie. for both boys and girls a regulation blazer and tie worn with a plain white shirt and plain formal black trousers, or a skirt as detailed in the regulations for Years

7 Uniform Rules and Expectations Uniform Expectations College uniform is important as it reflects both pride in the College and students attitude towards their learning. Students must maintain a high standard of personal appearance at all times. Any student arriving in College out of uniform or in incomplete uniform will have their parents contacted and will be sent home to change. No student will attend lessons unless in full College uniform. Students must comply with the following: Blazers must be worn - in all lesson; - in College buildings; - on College premises; - on the way to and from College. Except when students have been given permission otherwise: - outdoors at break or lunchtimes - by teachers in lessons. A dark overcoat may be worn over the blazer if necessary in bad weather. No other tops are permitted. No overcoats are to be worn inside College buildings. Acceptable footwear is plain black school shoes only. Boots (flat-soled) are acceptable only if they are plain black and are worn inside trousers. Trainers, sandals, flip-flops or high-heeled shoes will not be acceptable. Shirts must be worn fully tucked in with top button fastened. Ties must be worn at all times. Students are not permitted to wear hats or scarves indoors. Jewellery is not allowed to be worn in College. The only exception is a single pair of small, discreet earrings / studs and a watch. No facial piercings (including tongue piercings) are acceptable. Any make up should be discreet. Coloured nail polish is not permitted. Students should wear their hair in a manner suitable for College: - tram lines of any kind are not permitted; - cuts shorter than a grade 3 are not permitted; - colours other than natural hair colours are not permitted; - extreme hairstyles (eg. Mohican cuts) are not permitted. Parents who are unsure whether a hairstyle is acceptable should contact the Student Office for clarification. All students must carry a large College bag / rucksack which is capable of holding A4 folders and textbooks. 5
