1 CBSE-i Class 1 and Class 2 Keeping in line with guidelines by CBSE International (CBSE-i) for Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), students would be evaluated using both the formative and summative tools of assessment. Purpose of CCE, as recommended by CBSE-i: Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation is intended to provide a holistic profile of the learner through assessment of both scholastic and co-scholastic aspects of education spread over the total span of instructional time in schools. It helps to identify those positive attributes of the learner which are not usually assessed during the written papers held. Formative assessment encompasses evaluation during teaching of a unit and can comprise of quizzes, group discussions, presentations, short multiple choice questions, oral questions, sharing of opinions, creative writing, sketching of ideas, role-plays, practical fun activities, short paper pencil test, etc. Summative Assessment Summative assessment encompasses evaluation at the end of the teaching process of a topic or a group of topics. These would mostly comprise of paper pencil tests and would be more elaborate and detailed covering a larger portion. Assessments 1 st and 3 rd The 1 st and 3 rd assessments would focus on using the formative tools of assessment. Hence, for Language 1-English and Language 2- Hindi, Tamil or French, prose chapters or poems will not be tested. The paper would comprise of an aural (listening) or reading comprehension, short paragraph or sentence making, language structures and their application. Mathematics and Environmental Education assessment would comprise of short mental and application type of questions or activities, small projects done in class and response to those, simple computation of sums, marking diagrams or map work, filling blanks, multiple choice questions, reading diagrams, etc. There would be no detailed, or Why type of questions and answers from the portions of syllabus covered. Assessments 2 nd and 4 th The 2 nd and 4 th assessments will focus on Summative assessment tools, wherein the written paper would have questions pertaining to all the chapters covered during the given period (for the 2 nd and 4 th assessment) in all the subjects. These would have textual questions exercises with more details and would mostly be a paper pencil test.

2 Grading Criteria The grading system is done on a five point scale. Marks Range Grade Remark 90% and above A* Outstanding 75% to 89% A Excellent 56% to 74% B Very Good 35% to 55% C Good 34% and below D Scope for Improvement No retest will be conducted if a student remains absent for any paper pencil (written) test. Co-scholastic Areas During the academic year, students will be observed and marked for his overall performance, in co- scholastic areas of the curriculum. The Co-scholastic areas that will be assessed will include the following areas and the assessment is based on the aptitude and skill of the student. 1. Information And Communication Technology (ICT) 2. Language 3 Sanskrit 3. Visual Arts 4. Performing Arts Dance or Tabla 5. Performing Arts Music 6. Physical And Health Education 7. Yoga 8. Performing Arts-Speech And Drama 9. Life Skills 10. SEWA-Social Empowerment through Work and Action Grading Criteria for Co- Scholastic Areas Grade Remark A* Most indicators in a skill A B C D Many indicators in a skill Some indicators in a skill Few indicators in a skill Very Few indicators in a skill The grades will be reflected in the Performance Profile issued to the students.

3 CBSE-i Class 3 to Class 5 The assessment pattern for students of classes 3 to 5 is in line with guidelines by CBSE International (CBSE-i) for Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), Brief on Assessments CBSE-i refers to CCE as a system that covers all aspects of student s development. It emphasises the two-fold objectives a) Continuity in Evaluation, and b) Assessment of broad based learning and behavioural outcome Assessment in Scholastic areas is done both, informally and formally using multiple techniques of evaluation continually and periodically and can be multidisciplinary/ interdisciplinary. CCE is intended to provide a holistic profile of the learner through assessment of both scholastic and coscholastic aspects of education spread over the total span of instructional time in schools. It helps to identify those positive attributes of the learner which are not usually assessed during the written papers held. Formative assessment Formative assessments will be done on a regular basis through written work, journals, portfolios, project work, classroom interactions, self-assessments, cyclic tests, viva, creative writing, multiple choice type of questions, group discussions, reading for comprehension, practical funfilled activities, experiments, skits, role plays, quizzes, concept mapping, recitations and other learning tasks. Components of each formative assessment would include two individual activities, one group activity and one written assessment. Summative assessment Summative assessment encompasses evaluation at the end of the teaching process of a topic or a group of topics.these would mostly comprise of paper pencil tests and would be more elaborate and detailed covering a larger portion. Evaluation of Scholastic Areas for classes 3 to 5 Six assessments (four formative and two summative) are graded on a five point scale. 5 Evaluation of Co-Scholastic areas All students are required to undergo various school based assessments in the Co-Scholastic areas. Co- Scholastic Areas will be assessed on 5-point grade Grade Indicator Grade Point A Most indicators in a skill 5 B Many indicators in a skill 4 C Some indicators in a skill 3 D Few indicators in a skill 2 E Very Few indicators in a skill 1 Important Points 1. FA2 and FA4 will be conducted and graded on an ongoing CCE basis. Formal scheduled timetable will not be sent. 2. The evaluation pattern is as per the CCE scheme implemented by the CBSE-i board which emphasises that children are assessed for each component using various tools for assessment and not just a pen and paper (written) exam. 3. Performance profile will be issued to the students after the summative assessments.
