Scope The scope is to communicate to the supply base the expectation of component shipping, packaging and preservation to TRW Vehicle Manufacturer Service distribution facilities. The use of this guideline will ensure that TRW VM Service provides quality parts, while meeting the demand and expectations of our customer(s). Introduction A. The following are guidelines for the packaging of all materials that are to be supplied to TRW VM Service distribution facilities. Included is information for preferred pallets and containers. Also enclosed are labeling, container weight and general handling guidelines. B. The VM Service Buyer is responsible for notifying and enforcing these requirements on the suppliers. Deviations from this standard may be used, subject to approval by the VM Service Quality Manager at the receiving facility, the VM Service Buyer, and the VM Service Packaging Engineer. C. Compliance with these requirements is mandatory. Failure to comply with these requirements shall result in the issuance of a quality reject requiring a Corrective Action Response (CAR) within 24 hours. D. Any cost incurred by TRW VM Service for non-compliance to this standard may be charged to the supplier. Page 2

General Requirements It is the suppliers responsibility to ensure that each part is properly packaged, labeled and palletized to arrive free of damage and rust with packaging intact. Preservation Parts that require corrosion protection must be packaged to prevent corrosion during transportation and storage for a minimum of 60 days. There shall be no visible rust upon inspection of ferrous parts. Changes in rustproofing process must be PPAP d. When temporary coatings are used, they must be safe, easy to remove and dispose of. Additionally, coatings must not affect appearance or function and be environmentally friendly. When bare (non-coated) ferrous parts are shipped to the TRW Service facilities, VCI paper is recommended rust inhibitor. VCI paper must line each layer within the container and sealed appropriately. Parts that require electrostatic care or special handling requirements shall be marked as such and wrapped or placed in the required containers. The parts shall be preserved during transportation and storage for a minimum of 60 days. Containers shall be layered with accommodating electrostatic barrier material and sealed appropriately. Parts such as valves, EHCU or any units that pass fluid shall be protected such that there is no intrusion of debris by exposed ports. Acceptable methods of preservation are polybags, tape (cover ports) and cap plugs (for ports). Steering and Suspension parts and those having machined and/or threaded areas must be adequately protected with appropriate packaging to ensure parts are received with no visible damage. Bulk Packaging Items which are supplied in multiple quantities and not having a segregated unit container are considered bulk. Parts such as bolts, washers, o-rings, etc. should be master packaged in required quantities. Bulk shipments should be packaged in required quantities to facilitate handling (hand carried items should weigh < 40lbs.). Expendable packaging should be used whenever possible. Returnable containers will be accepted, however, return is not guaranteed unless prior agreements are made. Returnable containers and dunnage must clearly be marked as such. The part number and quantity must be clearly identified on each container and pallet. (See labeling Section for format) Page 4

Mixed loads or a pallet with several part numbers is considered a mixed load and should be clearly marked and each part number in its own master pack. See labeling section for format. Unless specified, there is no requirement to pack parts in a particular pallet quantity or master box quantity. Pallets and boxes should be filled to weight capacity as stated within this document. Unit Packaging NEW! Items that are supplied in its own segregated container and/or unit label shall be considered a unit package. Unit packaged parts are not acceptable without prior approval from VMS Purchasing and Package Engineering. When unit packaging has been determined the best method of preservation and the packaging has been agreed upon, the following criteria should be adhered to: No supplier graphics are permissible on carton or polybag. Suitable master pack containers and quantities should be used when possible. Containers In order to keep packaging as general and cost competitive as possible, TRW VM Service will leave containment preference up to its supplier(s). It is the responsibility of the supplier to insure that the product is properly contained. For bulk items such as rotors, calipers and brake shoes, Gaylord shippers are preferred, while wooden boxes are acceptable. Corrugated cartons are preferred for smaller parts. Markings and Labeling All labels and markings shall conform to the TRW Automotive North American Labeling Requirements (See Link below). Refer to this guide for details of exhibits and label samples mentioned within this guide. Labeling requirements contained within the TRW NA Labeling Requirements shall take precedence over all labeling discrepancies. NEW! Vendor Information Network 1. Login or Obtain New User Access. 2. Select the Global Supplier Quality Manual under TRW Requirements 3. The TRW North American Label Requirements are located under section Packaging and Labeling. All necessary hazardous labels and markings must be placed on containers that are regulated by the Code of Federal Regulations, OSHA and DOT. It is the suppliers responsibility to correctly identify and label the product. Page 5

Liquids or parts, which require specific orientation, must be marked with arrows. Loads which are deemed heavy (greater than 1000 lbs.) shall not be stacked and must contain a heavy load and or do not double stack label. Labels should follow the examples of figure1 and exhibits A, B, and C. Refer to the TRW Labeling Requirements guide for detailed information. The placement of the label will be displayed on two sides of the container when possible and one oriented to the outside of the pallet. The bottom edge of the label should be parallel to the base of the package/container. Mixed load labels shall be used on all mixed items or mixed lot pack and palletized loads. Mixed item loads shall have labels with the words MIXED LOAD in bold and attached in two noticeable locations. Each container on the mixed load shall be identified with Shipping/Part(s) Identification Labels. Country of Origin Federal Law requires that foreign source items must be identified with the Country of Origin as defined in U.S. Federal Regulations-title 19 U.S. Customs Service Part 134 as revised. The identification is to be the English name of the Country of Origin. Marking may not be abbreviated. It is the unitizer s responsibility to assure packages are printed with Made in (Country) prior to shipment to comply with this Federal Law and TRW s requirements. NEW! Pallet To comply with global regulations and maintain TRW VM Service s shipping efficiency, the use of a treated 42 x 48 wood pallet is required. Pallets are to be notched to allow four-way entry (see Figure A). All lumber used in pallet construction is to be free of cracks or other defects that could result in failure in TRW facilities. Pallets are to be of sound construction, capable of withstanding the rigors of transportation and capable of supporting their load to its final destination. Lumber used in pallet construction is to be treated and free of pests that might preclude importation into the U.S. Pallets must meet guideline regulations for wood packaging material used in international trade according to ISPM No Reference: Outline of regulation; Palletizing The product is never to over hang on the pallet. The maximum pallet height shall not exceed 45 inches unless prior arrangements are made. Page 6

Shipping Suppliers will meet all applicable regulations regarding the packaging and transportation of hazardous materials. All containers will be adequately sealed or covered to protect the contents during transit. Packing slips will clearly identify every shipment and will be placed on top of load. The packing slip will be protected from the elements in a clear plastic envelope. In loading for shipments, the packing slips should face the rear-side of the trailer. The packing slip will contain a packing slip number (shipment identification number), a purchase order number, a TRW part number, lot number, tare weight, load weight and quantity for each lot number. Containers shall not be filled beyond the weight or height capacity of the container. Containers shall display shipping/parts identification labels on two adjacent sides of each container and palletized loads shall display master labels on opposite sides. Materials TRW is an environmentally conscious company and in keeping with the TRW Environmental Policy, all packaging material should be reusable, biodegradable or recyclable when economically possible. Materials such as plastics should be identified with standard symbols that indicate recyclability and content. Corrugated containers should be identified as recyclable. Other materials should be identified in a standard manner consistent with existing laws and regulations. Quality Failure to comply with this guideline will result in the issuance of a supplier material rejection. In the event of non-conformance, a Corrective Action Report (CAR) will be required. The material will be disposed of in accordance with TRW VM Service Material Rejection guidelines, which include returning, reworking and or scrapping. Page 7
