1 MOV High Security Fence & Manual Gates Furnish and install High Security Chain-Link Fencing around the Military Owned Vehicles parking lot perimeter as shown on the attached drawings. Locate fence five [5] ft. outside the MOV paving edge on three sides and ten [10-15] feet from the straight edge on the entry/exit side. Provide two [2] sliding manually operating doors, one at each entry/exit. Gates shall have internal rollers for easy operation. Gate opening shall be such that the exit/entry width is not obstructed when fully open. Gates shall be designed so that they may be motorized at some time in the future. Note that there is an existing empty conduit in the vicinity for energizing the future motor. The fence shall be fabricated from 9 gauge steel fabric with mesh size of 2 inches. Fence posts shall be fabricated from schedule 40 pipe. All fence components shall have a zinc coating. Barbed wire used on the fence shall be 2 strand 12-1/2 gauge, zinc coated Class 3 type or equal. See SPECIFIC SECURITY FENCE REQUIREMENTS below: GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: SUMMARY Section includes high-security chain-link fence and horizontal slide gates. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS Delegated Design: Design chain-link fences and gates, including comprehensive engineering analysis by a qualified professional engineer, using performance requirements and design criteria shown in the attached drawings and as indicated below: 1 The fence must be at least 72 inches high including 18 inch top guard per AR para 3-5d and ATP para The fence fabric must extend within 2 inches of the ground below per AR para 3-5d and ATP para The fence fabric must be fastened to the fence posts per AR para 3-5d and ATP para Page 1 of 6
2 4 The hardware securing the fence fabric to the fence posts must be located on the secure side of the fenced area. Also, the bolts securing the fence fabric shall be peened to prevent the removal of the nuts per AR para 3-5d and UFGS para 3-13 (August 2010). 5 The chain for securing the gate shall be permanently attached to the gate post per UFGS para (August 2010). 6 The gates must be secured by padlocks (supplied by the user) accessible from both sides of the gates per UFGS (April 2008) with UMRL date October 2013 para The fence gates shall NOT be non-removable per STD standard details for gates. SUBMITTALS Product Data: For each type of product indicated Shop Drawings: Include plans, elevations, sections, details, and attachments to other work. Show accessories, hardware, gate operation, and operational clearances. INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS Product Certificates: For each type of chain-link fence, operator, and gate, from manufacturer. Field quality-control reports. CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS Operation and maintenance data. WARRANTY Special Warranty: Manufacturer's standard form in which Installer agrees to repair or replace components of high-security chain-link fences and gates that fail in materials or workmanship within TWO year warranty period. Failures include, but are not limited to, the following: Deflection of fence fabric beyond design limits. Deterioration of metals, metal finishes, and other materials beyond normal weathering. Faulty operation of gate operators and controls. Page 2 of 6
3 PRODUCTS CHAIN-LINK FENCE FABRIC Chain-Link Fence Fabric: Provide fabric in one-piece heights measured between top and bottom of outer edge of selvage. Comply with CLFMI Product Manual and with requirements indicated below: Fabric Height: As required by design manual referenced earlier. Steel Wire Fabric: 9 gauge. Mesh Size: 2 inches. Zinc-Coated Fabric: ASTM A 392, Type II, Class 1, 1.2 oz./sq. ft. with zinc coating applied before or after weaving. Selvage: Standard fabric selvage for 2 in mesh 72 in. high and over is knuckle finish at one end and twist at the other K&T. SECURITY FENCE FRAMING Posts and Rails: Comply with ASTM F 1043 for framing, including rails, braces, and line; terminal; and corner posts. Fence Height: As indicated on Drawings. Heavy Industrial Strength: Material Group IA, round steel pipe, Schedule 40. Line Post: Conform with ASTM F 900 or ASTM F End, Corner, and Pull Post: Same designation as Line Posts. TENSION WIRE FITTINGS Metallic Coating for Steel Framing: Type A, zinc coating Type B, zinc with organic overcoat. External, Type B, zinc with organic overcoat; internal, Type D, zinc-pigmented coating. Type C, Zn-5-Al-MM alloy coating. Coatings: Any coating above. Polymer coating over metallic coating. Color: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range, complying with ASTM F 934. Metallic-Coated Steel Wire: 7 gauge, marcelled tension wire complying with ASTM A 817 and ASTM A 824, with the following metallic coating: Type II, zinc coated with minimum coating weight matching chain-link fabric coating weight. General: Comply with ASTM F 626. Barbed Wire Arms: Pressed steel or cast iron, with clips, slots, or other means for attaching strands of barbed wire, and means for attaching to Page 3 of 6
4 posts, or integral with post cap; for each post unless otherwise indicated, and as follows: Provide line posts with arms that accommodate top rail or tension wire. Provide corner arms at fence corner posts, unless extended posts are indicated. Type I, single slanted arm. Type II, single vertical arm. Type III, V-shaped Type IV, A-shaped arm. Bolts or rivets for connection to post. Tie Wires, Clips, and Fasteners: Comply with ASTM F 626 and ASTM F Power-Driven Fabric Fasteners: Comply with ASTM F Finish: Metallic Coating for Pressed Steel or Cast Iron: Not less than 1.2 oz. /sq. ft. of zinc. a. Polymer coating over metallic coating. Aluminum: Mill finish. BARBED WIRE Barbed wire shall be 2-strand, 12-1/2 gauge wire, zinc-coasted, Class 3 in accordance with ASTM a 121. Barbed wire shall be four point barbed type steel wire. Aluminum Coating: Type A. INTERNAL ROLLER DESIGN Class 2-Internal Roller Design: Select material: provide material per manufacturer s requirements. Gate frame fabricated by welding, vertical and horizontal members located no greater than 8 ft. (2440 mm) apart. The length of back frame support section shall be a minimum of 40% of the opening. Class 2 cantilever slide gates to comply with the performance deflection criteria listed in ASTM F Gates designed to open or close by applying an initial pull force no greater than 40 lbs. (18.14 kg). Internal truck assemblies designed to handle the forces required for gate size opening and height. Match chain link fabric to that of the fence system. Gateposts, in. O.D. (106.1mm) 6.56lb/ft ASTM F 1043 Group 1A ASTM F 1083 schedule 40 pipe or ASTM F 1043 Group IC pipe as required by manufacture. Aluminum Frame Design: Aluminum rectangular members of various shape and wall thickness per manufacturers design base d on gate opening and height. Top horizontal member to be on-piece extruded section Page 4 of 6
5 having an integral internal track to accommodate truck assemblies. GROUT AND ANCHORING CEMENT Non-shrink, Nonmetallic Grout: Premixed, factory-packaged, non-staining, noncorrosive, nongaseous grout complying with ASTM C Provide grout, recommended in writing by manufacturer, for exterior applications. Erosion-Resistant Anchoring Cement: Factory-packaged, non-shrink, nonstaining, hydraulic-controlled expansion cement formulation for mixing with potable water at Project site to create pourable anchoring, patching, and grouting compound. Provide formulation that is resistant to erosion from water exposure without needing protection by a sealer or waterproof coating and that is recommended in writing by manufacturer for exterior applications. INSTALLATION Examine areas and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for site clearing, earthwork, pavement work, and other conditions affecting performance of the Work. Do not begin installation before adjacent paving and grading is completed. Stake locations of fence lines, gates, and terminal posts. Install chain-link fencing to comply with ASTM F 567 and more stringent requirements specified. Post Excavation: Drill or hand-excavate holes for posts to diameters and spacing indicated, in firm, undisturbed soil. Post Setting: Set posts in concrete at indicated spacing into firm, undisturbed soil. Verify that posts are set plumb, aligned, and at correct height and spacing, and hold in position during setting. Concrete Fill: Place concrete around posts to dimensions indicated and vibrate or tamp for consolidation. Protect aboveground portion of posts from concrete splatter. Exposed Concrete: Extend 2 inches above grade. Terminal Posts: Locate and install terminal end, corner, and gate posts per ASTM F 567. Line Posts: Space line posts uniformly at 10 feet o.c maximum. Barbed Wire Arms: Bolt or rivet to top of post. Angle single arms away from approach side of fence. Page 5 of 6
6 Tension Wire: Install according to ASTM F 567 and ASTM F 1916, maintaining plumb position and alignment of fencing. Provide horizontal tension wire at the following locations: Extended along top and bottom of fence fabric. Chain-Link Fabric: Apply fabric on the approach side of fence, inside of enclosing framework starting 2 inches above the finished grade below the fwnce. Power-Driven Fasteners: Fasten or inch wire fabric with 2- or 1-inch mesh size. Fasten fabric to line posts 12 inches o.c. and to braces 24 inches o.c. Fasteners: Install nuts for tension bands and carriage bolts on the side of fence opposite the fabric side. Peen ends of bolts or score threads to prevent removal of nuts. Barbed Wire: Install barbed wire uniformly spaced as indicated on Drawings. Pull wire taut, install securely to extension arms, and secure to end post or terminal arms. Ground Barrier Stakes: Stake coils at 10 feet o.c., driven to full depth. Gates: Install gates according to manufacturer's written instructions, level, plumb, and secure for full opening without interference. Attach fabric as for fencing. Attach hardware using tamper-resistant or concealed means. Install ground-set items in concrete for anchorage. Adjust hardware for smooth operation and lubricate where necessary. Adjustment: Adjust gates to operate smoothly, easily, and quietly, free of binding, warp, excessive deflection, distortion, nonalignment, misplacement, disruption, or malfunction, throughout entire operational range. Install bolts and ties to the inside of the fence and gates. FIELD QUALITY CONTROL Fabric Testing: Test fabric tension according to ASTM F Fence Post Rigidity Testing: Test line posts for rigidity according to ASTM F Page 6 of 6
