These guides ensure you are entering the correct classes in advance. When you submit your entry online you are agreeing that you understand the rules and regulations. Our friendly entry office staff is ready to help beginning January Payments must be received in the entry office no later than JANUARY 21, Any entry or payment submitted past deadline will not be accepted! NO EXCEPTIONS! Credit card payments are preferred to guarantee your entry submission. If you think you will make changes to your entries later, simply save your cart and exit out of the online entry system. Once you select PAY NOW or PAY LATER your entry will be submitted and you will not be able to make changes to your cart online. 2 1. Show Fees: There will be a $5 per llama fee (example: if you enter three llamas, the fee is $15) payable to ALSA. Adult non-members or adult members without valid ALSA membership card will be charged a flat $60 fee payable to ALSA. Youth non-members will be charged $25. Fees are due at check in time and will be collected by an ALSA/LASC member. 2. This show shall be run under ALSA rules except where there is a conflict with State or local rules. All applicable ages of llamas and exhibitors shall be determined per ALSA Rules. 3. Please bring the originals of your ILR certificates to the Riverside County Fair at check in. Failure to meet this requirement prohibits entry in the show. Pending registrations are not acceptable. Bring your ALSA Membership card. 4. Owner/Exhibitors must be the registered owners and make entry in the exact name (owner and animal) as shown on the registration certificate. Exhibitor/owner may use Permission to Show form provided by ALSA which grants named on the registration certificate to a person who is using an animal to show under their name. Exceptions: Owner may use a handler to exhibit their animal. 4H / FFA and site rules will take precedence over ALSA rules and guidelines regarding permission to show. 5. Health certificates are required for out of state Llamas. 6. Llamas may be shown in Youth or Adult Performance classes but not both. Premiums Offered 1 st Place Rosette 2 nd Place Ribbon 3 rd Place Ribbon 4 th Place Ribbon 5 th Place Ribbon 6 th Place Ribbon SHOWMANSHIP AWARDS Junior Intermediate Senior Adult GRAND CHAMPION PERFORMANCE Rosette & Gift Novice Advanced Masters RESERVE CHAMPION PERFORMANCE Novice Advanced Masters HIGH POINT Junior* Intermediate* Senior* Llama of Show# *High Point Youth of Show - All youth classes will count towards this award. #High Point Llama of Show To be eligible; a llama must be entered and shown in Halter and at least two (2) classes of Point Performance, not necessarily by the same handler. ALSA member not required. ROSETTES for LIGHT / MEDIUM WOOL CHAMPION HEAVY WOOL CHAMPION SURI WOOL CHAMPION Best of Show Halter Champion Award ENTRY FEE: $ 15 per entry Premium Percentage based on entries received. A $7 processing fee is held from entry fee. This is a Jackpot Show with the remaining $8 entry money divided on percentage basis for return of premium. 7. Youth exhibitors shall show only one (1) llama, but more than one (1) youth exhibitor may show the same llama. 8. If there are less than six (6) entries in any two (2) Youth Divisions or in the Halter Wool Divisions age divisions may be combined for all Halter classes. 9. Day camping is available at $10.00 per night. This is dry camping; water and electricity is not guaranteed. Requests for camping must be made on the Livestock Campground Request Form and returning it to the Riverside County Fair. 10. Pen Size is typically 7 x 7. Space is limited. Self-penning is acceptable. (Those camping will have first priority for outside self-penning.) Requests will be considered but may not be accommodated if space is limited.
3 11. This is a Shavings only show. Carpet or paper chips may be used. No straw allowed. 12. Pens must be cleaned prior to check out. 13. NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED ON FAIRGROUNDS. 1. All alpacas and llamas shall be presented for judging with a halter and lead rope and no additional decorations. 2. Halters shall not have tassels, pompoms, or other removable decorations. 3. Crias may not accompany nursing alpaca and llama mothers into rings. We recommend not showing nursing mothers. 4. The steward or judge may dismiss unruly animals from the ring. 5. All alpacas and llamas must be shown in the correct age and sex classification. 6. No ranch, personal, alpaca, or llama names shall be displayed on exhibitor or animal during the class. 7. Alpacas and llamas may be entered in only one halter class and wool division. 8. Large classes may be divided for judging at the request of the judge. However, only one set of awards will be given. 9. Alpacas and llamas may not be moved from one class to another after halter judging has begun except at the Judge s discretion. 10. Exhibitors are responsible for being at ringside ten (10) minutes before the scheduled time of their class. 11. Youth 8 through 18 years old may show intact males. It is recommended that youth under 8 years old not show intact males. Youth 8 through 12 years old not show intact males over 24 months of age. The judge has the option to dismiss an exhibitor with an unruly animal. Dismissal can take place even before the animals get in the ring if the matter is brought to the judge s attention by the show management, gate personnel, or the ring steward. 12. All halter classes are point classes; however, there must be a total of three (3) animals or more in each class before points are awarded. 13. All llamas five (5) months and older, entered in approved classes, with the exception of Youth Classes, must be registered or have passed screening with the International Llama Registry (ILR) or the Canadian Livestock Record Corporation (CLRC). 14. Non-Breeder llamas do not have to be registered or have passed screening with the ILR or the CLRC except those recorded with ALSA and participating in the Award System. 15. Animal s ages determined by show date. 16. Llamas will be shown in one of the three halter class divisions: Light, medium, and heavy wool. 17. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to place his/her llama in the correct division. If in doubt the correct wool division for their llama, exhibitors should ask for the opinion of the show steward or show management before the halter judging begins. 18. All substitutions will only be allowed within the Division and Class. Per California State rules after more than two changes, exhibitor will be charged $5.00 per change.
4 DIVISION 1400 SURI WOOL Should have a natural luster and hand and drape over the llamas body, usually forming a natural part along the spine. The fiber is also characterized by the absence of crimp and minimal loft. DIVISION 1401 LIGHT AND MEDIUM WOOL Light Wool Minimal body wool, short neck wool with smooth legs Medium Wool - Moderate to long body wool, minimal to moderate neck wool, smooth to moderate leg wool DIVISION 1402 HEAVY WOOL Abundant body and neck wool with minimal to abundant leg wool DIVISION 1403 NON-BREEDING LLAMAS 1. Yearling Thirteen (13) to twenty-four (24) months 2. Two (2) year old Twenty-five (25) to thirty-six (36) months 3. Adults Thirty-seven (37) months & over
5 DIVISION GROUPS Entries shall be declared and entered in the show by name prior to the Halter Show One (1) entry per sire or dam Sire or Dam will not be show in this class 1. Get of Sire - Include three (3) offspring (either sex) by the same sire by at least two (2) different dams. 2. Produce of Dam - Include two (2) offspring (either sex) by the same dam DIVISION 1405 SHOWMANSHIP 4. Adult DIVISION 1406 YOUTH OBSTACLE DIVISION 1407 YOUTH PUBLIC RELATIONS DIVISION 1408 YOUTH PACK 1. Classes are opened to any age or sex of llama five (5) months of age 2. The Judge shall make the final inspection of the course to insure its safety. 3. Llamas must make one attempt only at each obstacle. 4. After three (3) refusals of three (3) separate obstacles the Judge will dismiss the animal from the course. 5.
