17 Late Stage Differentiation Laser marking The principle laser imaging technology is the development of pigments that react to specific low energy laser emissions. These clear coatings for flexo and gravure printing applications are used to print white or clear patches onto paper and synthetic substrates. A low energy CO2 laser is used to selectively irradiate the patches, thus causing a color change to black, resulting in the creation of variable data and other graphics. Fast with little mess 17

19 Laser marking Technology No ablation or etching occurs during the color change. Human & machine readable text and graphics can be created at high speeds. Applying a varnish or lacquer over the patch can further protect the code. Chemistry can be activated through a laminate film without harming the film. The patch, and the subsequent laser induced code, are lightfast and tolerant of most environmental stresses. Provides end users the platform to introduce greater efficiencies, higher quality and increased productivity in the marking of their products requiring variable data. 19
