5 The Real Thing A job with style If you ve always wanted to get away, see the world and visit gorgeous places on board a five-star hotel, you might want to apply for a job on a cruise ship. One of the tallest, longest, largest and most expensive built so far is the Queen Mary 2. She is almost as long as four football pitches or 36 London buses. David Sutter, 43 is one of the 1,253 staff on board working between New York and Southampton. How long have you been working on board? This is my first time. Isn t it a little unusual for someone of your age to start life on board? I worked as a manager for an entertainment company and then ran my own hotel and restaurant in the early 1990s. I decided I needed a career change, and in 1995 went to the Ivor Spencer utler School. For the past five years I ve been working in the USA for a variety of personalities and well-known companies. So what does a butler actually do? I provide guests with a service where nothing is too much of a problem and the word no is not in my vocabulary.
