Sustainable urban development refers to the long-lasting and long term improvement of social, economic and environmental conditions of an urban area. In Europe, 2/3 of the population live in cities. In order to achieve this, the Socio-economic Innovation Strategy for the Northern Area of Seville is being introduced. OBJECTIVES OF THE DUSI STRATEGY IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE SELECTED AREA 90,000 PEOPLE Modernise public services according to a smart, innovative and participative model of city. The average population density of 196 m2 per inhabitant varies from one 2 neighbourhood to another, between 18 m per inhabitant in Hermandades-La Carrasca and 74 m2 per inhabitant in S. Jerónimo. 6

This will be applied in neighbourhoods, districts and cities. To involve all stakeholders, including citizens, public administrations and energy providers. 11 3 EDUSI S COGENERATION INSTALLATION FOR SANITARY HOT WATER IN 220 HOUSES is a pioneer company in introducing energy saving systems in subsidised housing, highlighting its experience in the field of micro-cogeneration with the installation of this technology for the generation of sanitary hot water (SHW) in the construction of 220 subsidised houses in Nuevo Amate. WHAT IS MICRO-COGENERATION? Micro-cogeneration is a technology which simultaneously produces electricity and thermal energy, in the same production location, generally using natural gas as fuel. On the one hand, electric power is used in one area, or released into the network from each piece of equipment which produces it, as evidenced by the installation in Nuevo-Amate, allowing the distributed generation of electricity and reducing the loss of electrical energy due to its transport through the conventional network. On the other hand, thermal energy is used in the same production location in order to satisfy, for example, the demand of sanitary hot water (SHW). 11

13 3 EDUSI S PACES2016 This action plan aims to achieve a total reduction of 1,463,113 t, 52.76% less than the previous year, by is an essential part of the development of the Action Plan for the Environment and Sustainable Energy in Seville (PACES, for its initials in Spanish), proposed by the local government of Seville. Among the proposals, 's engagement in improving energy efficiency stands out as part of its construction projects: Efficient lighting for common areas. Improvement in manufacturing (PVC and low-e glass, double glazed, insulating windows,etc.). Ventilated façade, improvement of façade's insulation. Inverter air conditioning, condensing boiler. Thermal bridge reduction. 13

A project which has already been implemented and whose savings are already effective and sustained for a long period. Energy saving: MWh/year. Reduction in CO : CO t/year. 2 2 Andalucía Ave. Installation of thermal solar energy in houses promoted by the local government. These saving methodologies which have already been established and sustained over a long period are to be included in all new construction projects being implemented between now and Renewable energy production: 20,200 MWh/year from which 18, MWh/year has already been saved. Estimated CO reduction: 7,988.5 CO t/year, year from which 7, CO2 t/year has 2 2 already been saved. 14

15 3 EDUSI S Other research projects. is proposing study and analysis into finding methods to achieve the most comfortable living conditions attainable inside a home, not only for new construction but also for those to be restored, without the need of conditioning system. It also seeks replicability in this solution, in order to contribute to the reduction of energy poverty. The proposals are: Neighbourhoods (districts) with an almost passive demand level, with a strong, renewable and smart production, in order to achieve a nearly zero-energy district, through a two way system: 1. PASSIVE DISTRICT: obtaining of buildings with low energy demand (high efficiency), by virtue of EPBD 2010/31/UE Directive. PROPOSAL OF LOW DEMAND BUILDINGS. - Good insulation - Lack of thermal bridges - Hermeticism - High performance windows - Heat recovery: active elements to guarantee a high indoor air quality with mechanical ventilation. Additionally, innovative and smart façade and roofing measures are included, smart demand management and user awareness so that these buildings can also be PASSIVE BUILDINGS. 2. NEARLY ZERO-ENERGY DISTRICT: renewable and innovative production with innovative storage of electricity, heating and cooling. 15
