What you should know when planning your wedding in Cancun or the Riviera Maya The main point of arrival for both Cancun and the Riviera Maya is Cancun International Airport, which is a two hour flight from Mexico City. Wedding Ceremonies: The wedding ceremonies that can be performed in Mexico can be split into three main types - Legal, Religious and Symbolic. Legal The legal ceremony, also known as civil ceremony, is the only one that is actually recognised as legal in your home country. They are legal in Mexico but must be also legalized your country of residence/birth. This means that you ll have to register your marriage certificate at your local City Hall. Legal ceremonies are in Spanish with English translations done by a Wedding Coordinator. For those of you from the USA, you ll also need the Apostille Seal. This can normally be done by your wedding planner as part of your Cancun Wedding Package. Remember to take your passport. They should be presented to your wedding planner on arrival. Make sure that your name on the Tourist Card, which is provided to passengers on the plane before arrival at Cancun s International Airport, matches the name on the passport, According to Mexican law, you need a Health Certificate showing the results of your blood test. The tests must be taken at the resort. They ll be ready within 24 hours. So you ll both need to arrive at the hotel at least 3 days before the ceremony for the tests and to process documents etc. This will also give you time to find your bearings and relax after your flights. The Mexican government require a Single Status Statutory Declaration to conduct a legal wedding. This states that you are currently single and are able to get married. No additional documents are needed if the groom is divorced. If the bride is divorced then it must have been at least 12 months ago. The passport needs to be under her maiden name. If not then she'll needs to present her Birth and Divorce Certificate. She'll also need the Apostille Seal to issue a document from one country to the other. If either the bride or groom's spouse is deceased, a copy of the Death Certificate must be presented.

6 Four witnesses are required for the legal ceremony. Your event planner will provide you with a Civil Ceremony Form to fill out about the witnesses if you're providing them. They'll also need Tourist Cards, passports or driving licenses. Like you, they will also need to arrive 3 days before the ceremony so that the legal document process can be completed. They will need to be 18 or over on the day of the ceremony. Religious Ceremony You may choose to have a Religious Ceremony alone, or to have it in conjunction with a Civil Ceremony. The bride and groom need to provide : Birth Certificates, Baptism Certificates and Confirmation Certificates. You should also obtain a letter from your Local Priest to the Cancun Priest, with his blessing for your marriage in Mexico. Many couples who are already married prefer to have a Symbolic Ceremony which is not recognised as legal. The Riviera Maya is an excellent location for a destination wedding, with a mixtures of large all-inclusive resorts and charming boutique hotels. Fantastic restaurants line the highway and the beaches.
