DEGREE COURSES Eligibility for Admission to B.Ed. A candidate will be eligible for admission to the Degree of Bachelor of Education if she has taken a degree of this University or any other University recognised by this University as equivalent to its degree (No Degree programme of less than 3 years duration after 10+2 pattern of schooling or of less than 4 years duration in the case of 11 years of schooling will be recognised as meeting the requirements of eligibility). For offering English as equivalent to two optionals, the candidate should hold a B.A. degree in English language and literature. Candidates applying for Economics optional must be post graduates in Economics. Only graduates who have completed their degrees need to apply. Those students waiting for their results need not apply. Age Maximum 25 years as on 1st July, 2012 and relaxable upto 30 years in the case of MBC / SC / ST candidates, 27 years in the case of BC candidates and upto 35 years in the case of teacher candidates who have put in experience of atleast 3 years in recognised schools. Course of study for B.Ed. The B.Ed. Degree Course will be conducted in the Faculty of Education, located in Avinashilingam Nagar, Varappalayam, Coimbatore The course of study is for two semesters consisting of not less than 90 instructional days in each semester excluding the examination days. Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), provide choices in Value added courses, Co-curricular courses & Extra-curricular courses and permits the students to write extra courses. Introduction of Self-study papers and concepts in the CBCS pattern will train the students towards life-long self-learning and online papers will help the students to prepare for global education. 1

2 Optionals Offered Each candidate has to offer any two of the following as per eligibility : 1. Mathematics 2. Physical Science 3. Biological Science 4. Home Science 5. English 6. English as equivalent to two optionals 7. History 8. Economics 9. Special Education * Visual Impairment * Hearing Impairment Procedure for Admission Application form and prospectus for admission can be had from the Registrar s Office in person on payment of Rs.60/- in cash or by post, by sending Rs.60/- by Demand Draft, drawn in favour of the Registrar, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore payable at Coimbatore together with a self addressed Rs.20/- stamped envelope (23x10 cms in size). Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates can get the prospectus and application form by paying 50% of the cost of application i.e. Rs.30/- on production of an attested copy of the Community Certificate and a Degree Course Completion Certificate. The application form duly filled in should reach the Registrar s office on or before The application form must be accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope for Rs.5/-. 2

3 The application form should be signed by the candidate and the parent or guardian. All the columns in the application form must be duly filled. The percentage of marks obtained in Part III Major and Ancillary must be entered in the application form without fail. Application which is incomplete and defective in any way will not be considered. The application should be accompanied by : a. An attested copy of the Diploma or Provisional Certificate of the degree taken. b. Attested copies of the grades or marks obtained in the degree examination. c. Attested copies of the S.S.L.C. and Higher Secondary mark sheets. d. An attested copy of the Transfer Certificate from the College/University last attended. e. An attested copy of the Conduct Certificate from the Principal of the College/the Registrar of the University in which the applicant last studied. f. A Medical Certificate in the prescribed form given by a Gazetted Medical Officer. g. A relieving certificate from the School / College / Institution in which the applicant last served as a teacher. h. Candidates belonging to BC/MBC/SC/ST should produce an attested copy of the permanent Community Certificate. i. Attested copy of the Income Certificate. j. Nativity Certificate. k. Passport size recent photograph fixed on the application form (Note : The photograph should have been taken not earlier than 3 months before the date of application). 3

4 Candidates will be required to appear for a written test at their own cost. The written test will be conducted on Sunday, 13 th May 2012 at 9.30 a.m. in the main campus, Opposite to T.V.S. North Coimbatore. The Registration slip should be produced at the time of the test. Selected applicants will receive a card intimating the date within which the FEES HAVE TO BE PAID TOGETHER WITH ORIGINAL CERTIFICATES. (Diploma or Provisional Pass Certificate issued by the Registrar of the University, Transfer Certificate, Conduct Certificate from the College / University last attended and a permanent Community Certificate in original). Failure to pay the fee or produce the certificates in original within the specified period will result in forfeiting the seat. NOTE : Students are requested to take sufficient number of attested copies of their certificates before submitting them to the office. The certificates will not be given to the students after admission till the completion of the course. No correspondence or action will be taken on such requisitions. Students selected for admission should join the course on the reopening date, failing which the seat will be forfeited. Hostel Catering in the hostel is vegetarian. The mess is run on dividing system. Rules and Regulations All students shall abide by the rules and regulations laid down for their discipline and development. 1. Students are required to be neatly dressed in sarees in keeping with Indian culture and in White Khadi uniform sarees for special occasions. 2. Costly jewellery should not be worn in the campus. The University is not responsible for any loss. 4

5 3. Students are required to participate in assembly prayer and in all the activities and functions of the University and observe order at all times. Absenting on such occasions will be considered as misconduct. 4. Students are required to help in keeping the class rooms and premises neat and tidy. 5. Organising meetings, entertainments and collecting money for any purpose in the campus without the permission of the Registrar are prohibited. 6. Students should read the notices put up on the notice boards carefully everyday. 7. Visitors are not allowed during working hours. 8. Students and parents should not tip the workers of the University. If they desire, they can deposit their gifts in the Workers Fund maintained in the Office. 9. All Students are expected to be in the premises of the University during the working hours from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. 10. Strict silence needs to be observed in class rooms and campus during working hours. 11. RAGGING IS PROHIBITED AND PUNISHABLE AND MAY RESULT IN EXPULSION / RUSTICATION / SUSPENSION / FINE, ETC. 12. Students should be regular in attendance and punctual to the classes (They should be in the class within five minutes of the commencement of the class). If they are late by more than five minutes they will lose the attendance for the hour. Students must put in a minimum of 90 percent attendance in each semester for each course to be eligible to appear for the semester examination in that paper. 13. All applications for leave must be submitted to the Dean duly attested by parent/ guardian/warden. Unnotified absence by the students may lead to their dismissal. 5

6 14. No re-tests will be conducted under any circumstances when the students miss any test. 15. All requests for seasonal and other educational travel concessions by train or plane from bonafide students must be made to the Deans during the stipulated period. Concession forms will not be entertained during any other period. Concession is available only for journeys to and from the home address specified in the application form for admission. 16. Fee once paid is not refundable. Students who leave after the first semester will be required to pay tuition and other fee for the second semester also. 17. No duplicate receipt of the payment of fee will be issued from the office on any account. The students are requested to keep their receipts intact, for verification when called for. 18. The fee for the semester is payable within the tenth working day of each semester. If a student fails to pay the fee due from her on the day fixed for payment, she will have to pay a fine of Re.1 per working day upto 10 working days. If the fee is not paid even then, the students name will be struck off from the rolls. For readmission if approved by the Registrar, she must in addition to the fee and fines due, pay a re-admission fee of Rs.50/ The Registrar has the right to ask any student to leave the University and to issue Transfer Certificate at any time during the course of the year, for indiscipline, unauthorised absence, malpractice and non-payment of fee and dues. 20. STUDENTS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED TO USE MOBILE PHONE IN THE CAMPUS. DISCIPLINARY ACTION WILL BE TAKEN AGAINST DEFAULTERS. 6
