8 Student 1 Commentary Task 1 Content: 9 The piece is relevant and detailed (200+ words), but there is only one successful justification of opinion: I adoro Toscana perché era buon mercato. Also there are several break downs in communication: l anno scorso andato in vacanza in Italia, Toscano, ma come d abitudine sono andato in Germania etc. Quite a lot of information is clearly communicated in spite of the lack of clarity in places. A mark from the top two bands may not be awarded because a lot of information is not clearly communicated and because there is only one justification of opinion. The piece should not be considered limited and if there had been more than one opinion justified and a little more clarity the higher band could have been considered so a mark of 9 has been given. Range of Language: 6 Some variety of vocabulary and structures have been used, including two tenses. More complex sentences are attempted but are not mostly successful: l anno scorso andato in vacanza in Italia, Toscano, ma come d abitudine sono andato in Germania (not successful) There are attempts at longer sentences that are sometimes successful. The piece is closer to band 7-8 than to band 3-4 so the higher mark in the band is given. Accuracy: 3 Although there are a lot of minor errors and some major errors, the piece is more accurate than inaccurate. Although verb forms and tense formations are often unsuccessful they are not really accurate. Total mark = 18/30

12 Student 1 Commentary Task 2 Content: 11 The piece is fully relevant and detailed (200+ words). There are justifications of opinion: l adoro mia famiglia perché loro sono divertente, l adoro perché professori molto inteligente - the errors do not prevent communication taking place without ambiguity. However, sound ability to convey information clearly is not demonstrated. There are several break downs in communication where messages are not clearly conveyed without ambiguity: mia madre amori guardare il tennis, sua avuta capelli castani lunghi, Poi ascoltare spesso la musica Punk, andare concerti un giorno si un giorno no, In futuro io volontà musicista, dopo domani ho avuto etc. Due to a lack of clarity in places a mark from the top band has not been given. The piece fits the criteria for the second band. In spite of errors a lot of information is still conveyed without ambiguity. A mark from the band above should not be considered and nor should a mark from the band below, therefore the middle mark in this band is given. Range of Language: 6 Some variety of vocabulary and structures have been used, including two tenses. More complex sentences are attempted but are not mostly successful: mi piace me capelli perché e docile é bella (not successful). There are attempts at longer sentences that are sometimes successful. The piece is closer to band 7-8 than to band 3-4 so a mark of 6 is awarded. Accuracy: 3 Although there are a lot of minor errors and some major errors, the piece is more accurate than inaccurate. Verb forms and tense formations are often unsuccessful. Total mark = 20/30 Overall mark = 38 / 60

20 Student 2 Commentary : Task 1 Content: 12 This piece is fully relevant and detailed (200+ words). There are justifications of opinions: Era interestante perchè ho visto molti uccelli e animali. Il giorno migliore era..abbiamo passato la mattina alla spiaggia - although there is no perché there are implied justifications for the opinion. However, a mark from the top band should not be given due to the lack of clarity/break downs in communication in places: La casa vostra è molto grande ma ho ancora condividere, Non mi piace cosi perché russi (wrong verb ending) molto forte, I supermercati stranieri sono ben forniti ma la torta era delizioso (the use of ma makes the message unclear), le mie amiche a chiamo. etc. The piece is, however, very close to fulfilling the criteria for the top band, so the highest mark from the band below should be given. Range of Language: 9 There is a wide variety of vocabulary and structures, including 4 tenses. More complex sentences are mostly handled with confidence and verb tenses are nearly always successful. The piece is closer to the top band criteria than to the band below, but the band below was considered due to the lack of clarity in complex sentences at times and the occasional slip in verb formation, so therefore a mark of 9 is awarded. Accuracy: 4 Generally accurate with errors tending to occur in more complex sentences. Verb and tense formations are usually correct. Total mark = 25/30

26 Student 2 Commentary Task 2 Content: 13 The piece is fully relevant and detailed (200+ words). There are justifications of opinions. There are a few instances of lack of clarity, but not enough to warrant going down to the band below. A mark of 13 is given due to the instances of lack of clarity. Range of Language: 9 The piece fits the criteria for the top band, the lower mark is given because of the lack of clarity in complex sentences very occasionally. Accuracy: 5 In spite of some minor errors and the occasional lack of clarity, the piece is largely accurate and verb and tense formations are secure. Total mark = 27/30 Overall Mark = 52 / 60

Justified opinions: Penso che la mia alimentazione sia abbastanza bene Mangio una varieta di alimenti, mi piacerebbe iniziare uno sport nuovo. Non voglio finire come mio nonno. Sound ability to convey information clearly. Range of Language: 10 Wide variety of appropriate vocabulary and structures including 4 tenses and the subjunctive. complex sentences handled with confidence. Verb tenses used successfully. More Accuracy: 5 Largely accurate with some minor errors. Verb and tense formations secure. Total mark = 30/30

33 Student 3 Commentary Task 2 Content: 15 Fully relevant and detailed response to the task. (200+ words). Justified opinions: E stata una delle mie vacanze le più sentite e si spera in futuro tornare a visitare. Mi piacerebbe vedere i trulli.. come sono pittoreschi.. Sound ability to convey information clearly. Range of Language: 10 Wide variety of appropriate vocabulary an structures including 5 tenses. More complex sentences handled with confidence: La città historica di Lecce si trova a qualche kilometro, dunque visiteremo tutti i siti turistichi e mangeremo frutti di mare negli ristorenti inspite of minor errors. Accuracy: 5 Largely accurate. Verb and tense formations are secure in spite of one major error: ma abbiano anche visitato. Total mark = 30/30 Overall mark = 60 / 60

41 Student 4 Commentary Task 1 Content: 3 A very limited response to the task with little relevant information conveyed. There are fewer than 100 words. Much of the information the student attempts to convey is unclear. There is no real structure. The higher mark in the band has been given because there are attempts at opinions and linking words. Range of Language: 3 Vocabulary is appropriate to the basic needs of the task. Structures are simple. The lower mark in the band has been given because the piece comes close to the lower band descriptor: little understanding of language structure. Accuracy: 2 Verb forms are rarely accurate. Many errors which often impede communication. Total mark = 8/30
