2 Start screen Information to end user that he must activate the software. This dialog, or wizard, will appear after installation has finished and the first time setup has completed. It will keep appearing until user has activated the software. After the software has been activated it will not reappear until the next release update has been installed. In order to activate the software, you will require a valid VCI serial number, hardware key and an internet connection. If you do not have a hardware key, you will be able to obtain one by ringing one of the numbers in the picture on the right. If you do not have a internet connection then there is a USB solution to activate the software(see later in the document). Click the forward arrow to the next step in the process.

3 VCI Serial no. and hardware key The user must provide valid VCI serial number and hardware key combination. There is no way for the software to know which one is wrong, so both are marked as faulty (if any). The user cannot proceed with the wizard until correct information has been provided (Mouse is hovering the error provider on Hardware key hence the shown tool tip)

4 Correct information provided When the user has provided correct information, he is allowed to proceed with the wizard. NOTE: During the installation, there is an option to enter the VCI serial number and hardware key, however the software can be installed without entering this information. So if this information was entered during the installation then they will appear in the boxes and you will be able to proceed immediately. You can get the hardware key as explained before. If you installed the software without entering this information then you will have enter the VCI serial number and harware key to continue. Click the forward arrow to the next step in the process.

5 Internet is available An Internet connection could be established and the user can start the activation by pressing the Start button

6 Success Within a few seconds the application should load and the activation process is over until next release has been installed

7 Possible failures User has already activated on the maximum allowed number of computers (3) License has not been activated by distributor or it has expired

8 No Internet access? If the user cannot get Internet access on the computer he wants to use as a diagnostic tool he can use another computer for the activation process. The other computer must have access to Internet. If the activation wizard cannot find a connection to Internet the wizard will give the user the possibility to activate with the help of an USB-stick

9 No Internet connection User can retry by pressing the left button ( Check for Internet connection ) or start the USBactivation wizard by pressing the right button

12 DiagActivator An external application must be started on the computer with Internet access. It is called DiagActivator.exe and should be found in the root directory of the USBstick Double click the file to open it.

13 DiagActivator User only has to press Start and wait for a few seconds. Wait until you see the operation succeeded message. Click OK. The next step is to remove the USB stick and insert it into the PC to be activated

14 Reinserting the USB-stick When the user inserts the USBstick into the diagnosis computer it will either be successful and the activation wizard will close down (and regular diagnosis software start) or you might get errors.

15 Reinserting the USB-stick - Errors Or the same type of errors can appear as with regular activation. The only real difference is that a dialog is shown with the error messages (instead of the error message inside the wizard)

16 Manual mode It is possible to do the file based activation without a USB-stick. This can be done in Manual mode. Here the user can save the external activation application on any writable area, such as an SDcard, local intranet or even a floppy disk. When the user has done so he can start DiagActivator there run it and then choose Open file and point to the directory where DiagActivator (and relevant files, FileActivation.xml is stored) The manual mode can be regarded as a last resort if other options fails due to no Internet access and no USB-ports on the computer.

17 Deactivation The maximum number of PCs the software can be activated on is 3. If you want to use it on 4 th PC, then you must DEACTIVATE the software on one of the other 3 PCs that it is already activated on before you can start to use it on the 4 th PC. Also before you uninstall make sure you DEACTIVATE the software. If you do not then this copy will remain activated on the server. Click Help >> License. Click on the Deactivate license button.

19 Deactivation You will require the hardware key to DEACTIVATE. Enter your hardware key and click OK. You will see the operation succeeded. Now you will be able to activate the software on another PC. NOTE: If you do not have internet connection then the license will need to be DEACTIVATED directly by Delphi. This will DEACTIVATE all licenses on this hardware key. You will need to phone Delphi and provide your VCI serial number

20 No Internet connection at all Where the customer has no internet connection at all, then there is an option for the customer to post the USB stick to us. We will activate the USB stick and then post the USB stick back to the customer.
