8 EnMS use the PDCA concept and are compatible with other MS. An EnMS ensures that a company continually passes through the cycle of making energy policy, planning energy efficiency actions, implementing those and checking the results, on the basis of which new policy is made ISO (15/6/2011) Compatible with other standards ISO ISO 9001 Other MS ISO Provides focus through significant energy uses Requires regular and reliable follow-up of actual versus predicted energy consumption Integration yields more streamlined approach, but most of all ensures properly addressing conflicting objectives & targets 8

10 Independent sources and studies confirm the effectiveness of EnMS. 3M reduced it energy consumption per net sales by 30% since 2000 through its Global Energy Management Program and expects to reach 40% by the end of 2008 United Technologies Corp reduced global GHG emissions by 46% per $ revenue from 2001 to 2006, now seeking an additional 12% reduction from 2006 to 2010 Typical reduction of the energy use during the 1 st year after implementing EnMS is 5% - 10%. Important additional benefits are observed. Dow Chemical achieved 22% improvement between 1994 and 2005 through its corporate energy management system and is seeking another 25% from 2005 to 2015 Companies that have voluntarily implemented energy management plans have achieved energy savings of 20% or more, with corresponding reductions in GHG emissions. Impact evaluation of national industrial EnMS programs in S, DK and IRE (2009): Industries that implement and maintain an EnMS typically save 10% - 20% within the first 5 years. 10

11 ISO50001 market is expected to surpass that of the ISO14001 in growth rate and size. There will be a significantly higher uptake globally, at a faster pace than we saw with ISO and with ISO ISO could potentially impact up to 60% or more of the world s energy use. The market opportunity is enormous, over the next 10 years, 0.5 to 2.0 million organizations will be ISO certified. 11
