27 Introducing Fuel Card Group Fuel Card Group is one of the largest independent agents of fuel cards in the UK, working as agents on behalf of most of the major oil companies including: BP, Esso, Shell and Texaco. We currently operate in 5 offices in the UK. 27

28 What do Fuel Card Group do?? As one of the largest fuel card agents in the UK, we oversee the sales and distribution of branded fuel cards with drawings in excess of 500 million litres of motor fuel annually. Our products and services: Provide fast, efficient refuelling for organisations nationwide Allow commercial organisations to manage their transport costs Are complimented by our excellent fleet management services including; eservices, Card Protect CO 2 Count & MileageCount 28

29 Why we wanted ISO50001 To reduce our energy consumption and save on both usage and cost! To compliment the release of our new fleet management services CO 2 Count and MileageCount To adapt early to the increasingly important requirements of energy management and energy legislation i.e. the targets. 29

30 Setting up our EnMS Our energy management system is made up of a number of documented procedures showing how our system operates and spread sheets highlighting our energy usage and consumption. Each of our 5 offices has their own Energy Representative, who is responsible for updating the relevant spread sheets and carrying out their Energy Review. These are reported back to our Energy Manager. Each Energy Representative and Energy Manager has attended the SGS Intro & Awareness to Energy Management Systems training course. 30

31 Energy Review We review our energy system in two ways: Consumption a series of spread sheets record our gas and electricity consumption at each office on a monthly basis, and compares this to our energy baselines (made up of historical consumption data). Usage we have a spread sheet for each office that records an inventory list of each item that consumes energy. 31

32 Energy Week To roll out our energy management system to the rest of our staff we conducted an inter-office competition called Energy Week. It involved each office attempting to reduce their consumption against their average using sustainable energy saving techniques. It proved a resounding success with nearly all employees getting on board and really promoted our energy management system. Results: 1 st Oxford: Reduction of 20.1% 2 nd Leeds: Reduction of 18.7% 3 rd Burnley: Reduction of 3.6% 4 th Motherwell: Reduction of 3% 5 th Canterbury: Reduction of 2.1% 32

33 Benefits of our EnMS As a service based company we initially had reservations about whether we could derive any benefit from energy management but 12 months down the line we have proved those reservations were unfounded - and with 12 months solid data we can really make the system work for us! It has allowed us to easily survey our energy consumption at all 5 locations and set objectives, targets and action plans to improve our energy performance Energy Week brought about energy saving ideas that have been adopted by all offices and employees have adapted to energy efficient working habits. 33

34 Benefits of our EnMS We discovered what was using the most energy in each office which allowed us to set action plans to effectively manage these i.e.: Controlling the air conditioning efficiently Carrying out a lighting review to assess the wattages of bulbs Putting timers on hot water boilers so they were no longer on 24/7 We were able to market our new fleet management services by saying we re being energy efficient and you can be too! 34
