1 1 Plenary Session Presentation Guidelines 1.1 What is a plenary session? Our team of reviewers selected the six best and most outstanding abstracts out of all submitted abstracts. The plenary sessions have the form of an extended oral presentation and will demonstrate the most excellent research by students. A plenary presentation is the organisers way of rewarding applicants, who put an extra effort in submitting an excellent abstract of interesting work. 1.2 Presentation Session Note: The first author will be the presenter and must attend to the assigned plenary session. If participation is not possible, the ISC organizers must be informed until 1 st of May In each session three presentations will take place. Each speaker will be given 10 minutes for presentation and 3 minutes for the discussion. Any presenters exceeding the time will be interrupted in order to keep to the schedule. 1.3 Timetable & Location For the full and updated timetable please visit our homepage. 1.4 Chairperson The two plenary sessions will be chaired by one student and one professor. They will be moderating the discussion and judging the presentation. Before the presentation all speakers are supposed to introduce themselves to the chairpersons. 1.5 Judging Criteria Our jury will be looking for the following qualities in participants and their work: Scientific novelty of work presented Clarity of presentation (aim, hypothesis, results, conclusion and significance of work presented) Ability to answer follow-up questions Consistency of facts presented 1.6 Prizes The best plenary presentation will be awarded each day in the Award Session and will win a prize money of 300.
2 1.7 Format and presentation-file submission The format for oral presentations must be.ppt,.pptx or.pdf. The presentation files must be given to the organizers via USB-Stick on the day prior to the presentation (at the PC Center!). This will allow our staff to check for compatibility etc. It is not possible to bring your own Laptop. 1.8 Language All presentations must be held in English.
3 2 Oral Sessions - Presentation Guidelines 2.1 Definition/What is an oral session During an oral session participants will have the chance to present their work to an audience and two chairpersons using audio-visual media (eg. PowerPoint Presentation). Each oral session will consist of presenters from the same or related fields of research. 2.2 Presentation Session Note: The first author will be the presenter and must attend to the assigned oral session. If participation is not possible, the ISC organizers must be informed until 1 st of May Each oral session will consist of presenters from the same or related fields of research. In each session six presentations will take place. Each speaker will be given 8 minutes for presentation and 2 minutes for the discussion. Any presenters going over time will be interrupted in order to keep to the schedule. 2.3 Timetable & Location For the full and updated timetable please visit our homepage. 2.4 Chairperson Each oral session will be chaired by one student and one professor from the respective field of research. 5 3 Poster Session Presentation Guidelines 3.1 What is a Poster Session? During a poster session participants will have the chance to present their work in front of their printed poster and answer follow-up questions in front of a smaller audience including students and professionals from various research fields. On the day of their presentation, posters will be on display the whole day and can therefore be explained by the author to any interested audience at any time, e.g. during coffee break. 3.2 Presentation Session Note: The first author will be the presenter and must attend to the assigned poster session. Each poster session will consist of presenters from the same or related fields of research and their posters will be displayed in proximity. During the poster presentation, our jury will be moving from poster to poster. Each speaker will be given more or less 8 minutes to present his poster and answer upcoming questions. 3.3 Time Presented posters must be mounted in the morning (7:30am 8:30am) and available for all participants during the whole day on the day of presentation. Posters should then be removed after 6:00pm. Presenters are required to remove their posters latest at 7:00pm in order to make way for the posters of the following day. The organizers will be forced to remove and discard any posters that remain displayed after this period. 3.4 Technical Assistance Assistants will coordinate technical support. They will: Assign poster spaces by marking poster boards with numbers and names of presenters help presenters to mount their posters provide tapes, pins, adhesives and other items necessary for mounting the posters direct the jury to the posters during sessions 3.5 Timetable & Location For the full and updated timetable please visit our homepage.
6 3.6 Chairperson Each session will be lead be one student and one professor in that perspective field. They will ask for a presentation and for answering follow-up questions. 3.7 Judging Criteria Our jury will be looking for the following qualities in the participant s performance and their work: Scientific novelty of work presented Clarity of presentation (aim, hypothesis, results, conclusion and significance of work presented) Ability to answer follow-up questions Consistency of facts presented 3.8 Prizes The best plenary presentation will be awarded each day in the Award Session and will win a prize money of Language and Content All presentations will be done in English. Try to use simple academic English, avoid abbreviations and technical terms, if possible. The poster may contain a brief description of your work, graphic representation of your data and any other diagrams relevant to your work. Each poster must show the official program number, which has been assigned to it by the organizers. We recommend that you add your contact details on your poster for open questions Poster Format Please note that poster space is limited to a format 90 cm in width and 120cm in height.
