2 ABOUT ShareAction exists to make investment a force for good. Our vision is an investment system that truly serves savers, supports communities and protects our environment for the long term. This vision cannot be achieved without an international outlook, nor without working together with neighbours across Europe. Many in European civil society recognise the growing power of capital markets to shape our world; and see the value in co-ordinating, collaborating and supporting each other as champions of responsible investment. It is in this spirit that we launched ERIN (the European Responsible Investment Network) in mid-2016, which now contains 29 member organisations in civil society from 10 European countries. It is in this same spirit that we are hosting today s event. It s clear that the future of the financial services industry in the UK and Europe will be a key topic in the Brexit negotiations. It is less clear what this means for responsible investment, particularly as the EU is moving ahead with its ambitious Capital Markets Union programme to create a single market for capital, make the finance system more sustainable and work better for citizens whose trust in this sector is so low. This event will explore what influence does Europe have on our personal savings and investments? What does Brexit mean for the future of the City of London, the Capital Markets Union (CMU) and a sustainable investment system in the UK and Europe? And will the UK s diminishing influence in Brussels help or hinder efforts to create a sustainable financial system? We hope this event enable those of us in the movement for responsible investment to better understand the risks and opportunities that Brexit presents for our agenda and empower us to engage more fully in the important debates to come. 2

5 Anneliese Dodds MEP, Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee Before being elected as a MEP, Anneliese was the Senior Lecturer in Public Policy at Aston University. She sits on the European Parliament s Committee for Economic and Monetary Affairs, and the Special Committee on Tax Rulings, and is Chair to the Delegation to Montenegro, and is also a member of the Working Group on Anti- Semitism and a member of Intergroups on LGBTI Rights; Long-term investment and reindustrialisation; and Youth Issues. Camilla de Ste Croix Senior Policy Officer, ShareAction Camilla joined ShareAction in December 2013 and leads ShareAction s European policy work. Prior to joining ShareAction she was a Research Assistant to an MEP at the European Parliament and worked on legislation concerning corporate social responsibility. She holds a BA in French and Russian from Bristol University and an MSC with Distinction in Global Politics from Birkbeck College, University of London. Cecilia Thorn Head of International Relations, FRC Cecilia has over 13 years professional experience in international & EU policy, public affairs and government relations. As head of international relations at the FRC she is responsible for the international and EU policy and engagement and also heads its office in Brussels. She is also project managing the FRC s Brexitrelated work. She holds a M.A. in European Studies (Law & Political Science) from the University of Leuven. Daniel Brooksbank Editor, Responsible Investor Daniel is Editor of Responsible Investor. He was formerly News Editor at Investment & Pensions Europe (IPE) Formerly he was Multimedia Editor, Europe for Bloomberg News and Economics Editor at IDEAglobal.com. He was the moderator of the European Parliamentary Pension Forum and has appeared on CNBC and the BBC. He started his career at Reuters, initially in investor communications before moving on to edit its online staff newsletter. Dr Ian Williams Freelance Consultant (specialising in financial services and responsible investment) Dr Williams is a freelance consultant that has worked for businesses, governments and NGOs on many aspects of trade and regulatory policy affecting access to the EU and global markets. He specialises in financial services and RI having spent many years working in the City with Prudential. 5

6 Ingrid Holmes Director, E3G At E3G Ingrid leads E3G s work on Finance and Investment and is interested in the interface between policy, finance and economics. Her team is active in the UK, EU and Latin American financial reform debates. Ingrid has previously held roles in finance, government and parliament. She is a member of the UK s Green Finance Initiative. Jonathan Hoare Director of Policy, ShareAction Jon joined ShareAction in January 2015 to lead its work on the Charities Responsible Investment Network and heads up ShareAction s Policy & Research team. Prior to that, Jon worked for the UK Government across a range of policy areas, most recently at the Cabinet Office on Social Impact Investing policy. He is also a Director of the CORE Coalition. Mick McAteer Founder and Director, Financial Inclusion Centre Mick is founder and co-director of The Financial Inclusion Centre. He is Chair of the European Commission s Financial Services User Group, Director of Registry Trust and Deputy Chair of the Northern Ireland Consumer Council. He was formerly Principal Policy Adviser for Which?, Europe s largest consumer organisation. He was also on the board of the FSA and the FCA where he chaired the External Risk and Strategy Committee. Molly Scott-Cato MEP, Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee Molly is an MEP, an economist and writer. She studied PPE at Oxford University and has a doctorate in economics from Aberystwyth. Aside from her work as an economist Molly s areas of special interest include land ownership and food production and renewable energy. Before becoming an MEP, Molly worked as Professor of Economics at Roehampton University. For the past 15 years Molly has spoken for the Green Party on economics and finance. Paul Watchman Director of Sustainable Finance, CCP Research Foundation An honorary Professor at the School of Law, University of Glasgow and former Special Legal Advisor at UNEP FI, Paul has been described as one of the 6 most influential global leaders on Sustainable Finance. Paul was the principal author of the Freshfield report, which changed investment by providing a sound legal basis for the integration of ESG into investment decision-making. 6

7 Ron Batten Chair of Responsible Investment Working Group, European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA) Ron is a senior policy adviser at the Dutch Fund and Asset Management Association since He has been involved in responsible investment for nine years and is chairman of the Responsible Investment Working Group of the EFAMA since Sue Rust Senior Reporter, Investment & Pensions Europe Sue has been a senior reporter at IPE since Before that she worked as a debt capital markets journalist for more than six years. At IPE she covers a range of European pension markets, responsible investment and EU regulatory developments. Having started her career as a corporate governance/corporate social responsibility analyst at proxy advisory firm PIRC, covering responsible investment at IPE feels like coming full circle in a good way. Dr Waltraud Schelkle Associate Professor of Political Economy, LSE Waltraud has taught courses on the political economy of European integration at LSE s European Institute since She is an Adjunct Professor at the Free University of Berlin. She is also a (non-resident) Senior Fellow at the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS), Johns Hopkins University, and Chair of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Social Policy Research in Bremen. 7
