2 Introduction A complete program for fiber optic SMA 905 coupled sampling accessories is available from Avantes. The sampling accessories can be divided into different categories, depending on the intended application: Power adapters and battery pack. Cuvette holders, available in 4 different types: Standard 10 mm optical path length for UV/VIS/NIR absorption measurements 10 mm path length with one side port under 90 degrees for fluorescence applications 10 mm path length with 2 light paths for dual channel spectroscopy and fluorescence measurements. Variable path length mm for strong absorption or low absorption measurements. Direct attached cuvette holders to connect directly to SMA-coupled light sources. These cuvette holders are specially useful for fluorescence applications. Flow cells for different types of applications: In-line absorption measurements and process control 1/2 and 1/4 with 5/10mm path length. Micro-flow cells for low volume, high pressure and HPLC applications. Long path flow cells for very low-absorption measurements. White and specular reflective material to be used as a reference material for reflection measurements (for example color applications). Avatrigger external triggerbox. Accessories Integrating spheres, available in 3 types: Irradiance for measuring radiometric and photometric quantities of LED s and other light sources. 4 5V/12V/24V Battery packs for Spectrometers and Light Sources 12V Battery Pack The 12V battery pack is specially constructed for use with the AvaSpec-USB2-BT platform spectrometers with Bluetooth interface. The 12V battery pack consists of 10 powerful NiMH batteries and allows you to run the AvaSpec with Bluetooth for 8 hours without reloading. The battery pack can be easily connected to all AvaSpec-USB2 spectrometers through the 12 VDC external input connector. The 12 Volts battery pack can be used for the AvaSpec spectrometers, most light sources and accessories, such as Avalight-LED, Avalight-XE, AvaLight-DHc and AvaLight-CAL. The 24V battery pack is developed for use with an AvaLight- HAL and consists of 20 NiMH batteries and has 3200 mah capacity, enough for 2.5 hours of continuous operation. The 5+12V battery pack is specially designed to be used with the AvaSpec-NIR-2.0/2.2/2.5 and the AvaSpec-TEC-USB2 instruments that require a 5V-2A power supply for the TE cooling and regulation. The 5V/12V battery pack has 5 NiMH batteries with a 13AH capacity, enabling 6 hours of continuous operation. 24V Battery Pack The 1.0A universal battery pack-charger can be used to reload the 12V battery pack within 90 minutes and the 24V battery pack in 3 hours. It supports trickle loading and has a temperature feedback shut-off control. For the 5+12V battery pack a special 2.5A charger is required, that can charge the battery pack in ca 5 hours. All battery packs are equipped with an automatic thermal and overload cut off circuitry as well as a 3-color LED for power indication. All three battery packs can be delivered as rack mounted devices (-RM). 10 Integrating Spheres Integrating spheres generally function as a light collector. The collected light can be used as a diffuse illumination source or as a measurement source. In the Avantes line of integrating spheres the spheres are mostly used as measurement source. The basic principle of operation is that light enters the integrating sphere through the sample port, goes through multiple reflections and is scattered uniformly around the interior of the sphere. The detection fiber optics are SMA-coupled to the port at the side of the sphere which is viewing illumination on a baffle, independent of the angular properties of the light at the sample port. The baffle prevents first reflections to enter the detection fiber. The AvaSphere integrating sphere family can be delivered with an active diameter of 30, 50 or 80 mm and an SMA port at 90 degrees for irradiance and reflection measurements. The reflection sphere has an additional SMA- connector port at 8 degrees, for direct illumination, coupling the light into the sphere through a fiber and a COL-UV/VIS collimating lens, connected to a light source. The AvaSphere-30 has a sample port diameter of 6 mm, the AvaSphere mm and 15 mm for the 80 mm diameter sphere. All sample ports are knife-edge, this ensures 180 degree field of view of the sample port. The irradiance version of the integrating sphere can be used to measure light sources (Laser, LED, and Halogen Lamps). For the irradiance measurements of LED s a special adapter was developed to be connected to the AvaSphere-50/80-IRRAD. The adapter can hold 3, 5 and 8 mm LED s in the correct and reproducible position inside the sphere. AvaSpheres 30-REFL and 50-REFL The reflection version is used to measure total integrated reflectance of a surface, as well as for color measurement and fluorescence spectroscopy. The measurement principle is based on direct illumination and indirect reflection. A light source may be connected to the 8 degree SMA-connector port through a fiber optic bundle to make the integrating sphere an ideal uniform light source. The inside of the integrating sphere is made out of highly reflective diffuse material; that gives a light diffuse reflection (>96 %) over a wide wavelength range ( nm). A special black gloss-trap is available for the AvaSphere-50-REFL reflection sphere to exclude specular reflection in the measurement. This option needs to be ordered together with the sphere. In case specular reflection needs to be included, a white reflective part can be mounted in the position of the gloss trap.
