PROBLEMS: Can you convert customary measure to metric measure? Can you convert metric measure to customary measure? PROCEDURE: You will work in groups of 2 for Student Activity 3. Decide who is Student 1 and who is Student 2. Part 1: Round 1: Measure the piece of ribbon to the nearest inch. When you both agree on the measure, write the measure on the Conversion of Measures chart. Working together, convert the inches to centimeters. Student 1 converts the measure using a unit rate. Student 2 converts the measure using a proportion. When you both agree on the conversion, record the length of the ribbon in centimeters on the chart. Round 2: Measure the dimensions of the rectangle to the nearest inch. When you both agree on the measures of the dimensions, record them on the Conversion of Measures chart. Determine the area of the rectangle in square centimeters. Student 1 find the area using a unit rate and Student 2 find the area by using a proportion. When you both agree on the area, record it on the chart. Round 3: Find the can labeled Can 1. Look at the label and determine the capacity of the can in grams.
