6 ALWAYS MORE SERVICES: TV CHANNELS The explosion in the number of HD channels has largely been contributing to the multiplication of TV channels. Indeed, more than 40% of the TV channels launched in 2012 were HD. 8 ALWAYS MORE SERVICES: ON-DEMAND NUMBER OF ON-DEMAND AV SERVICES IN THE EU28 ( ) The new market for non-linear audiovisual services is growing and changing extremely rapidly. In April 2013, the European Audiovisual Observatory identified at least ondemand services established in the EU-28. 11 HYBRID SERVICES ARE A MUST Connectivity of TV platforms and multiplication of non-linear TV services create the feasibility and the need for hybrid TV services HbbTV standard represents a true pan-european initiative. HbbTV only refers to other standards Broadcasters can build applications using standard web techniques and interact directly with their audience.
