Join a licensed parent educator and other new parents to discuss the joys and challenges of having a baby and all the adjustments of adding a new member to your family. For a complimentary visit to an infant class call today! Class Descriptions New Parent Connection/Infant Massage Non-separating (child and parent together for entire class) This is a great place to start in ECFE. We ll discuss topics such as sleep, eating patterns, calming techniques and adjustments to parenting. Parents will learn infant massage techniques and play activities for young babies. Incredible Infants Non-separating (child and parent together for entire class) Experience music and play activities that enhance your infant s development. Parent discussion will focus on topics of interest to new parents such as sleep, nutrition, child development, temperament, adjustments to parenting and safety. Parent discussion will focus on topics relevant to life with a new baby. Early Ones Non-separating (child and parent together for entire class) Children and parents enjoy time together singing, playing and learning. The early childhood staff engages the children in planned activities while parents gather nearby in the same room for parent discussion. Topics include child development, temperament, guiding behavior, sleep and nutrition. 4 toddlers and twos classes (12-36 months) Class Descriptions Toddlers Non-separating (child and parent together for entire class) Age Ranges and Schedules Ages: Months Day Time Location This class is for parents and toddlers who are not quite ready to separate. Parent-child interaction will give you a chance to spend some uninterrupted time together participating in developmentally appropriate activities. Thursday 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Longfellow Parent discussion led by a licensed parent educator will move to a section of the room while early childhood staff continue to assist your children in exploring the classroom and all it has to offer. Toddlers Play and Learn with Gym Time Ages: Months (Half Semester Class) Non-separating (child and parent together for entire class) This non-separating class is taught by a licensed parent educator who will provide fun learning activities for parents Saturday 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Longfellow and toddlers both in the classroom and early childhood gym. In addition there will be opportunities to discuss parenting questions and concerns. Staff will support parents and children in learning to separate in a respectful, flexible manner. Toddlers and Twos Independence, temper tantrums and sheer exuberance are all part of life with toddlers and twos. 5 toddlers and twos classes (12-36 months) Class Descriptions Age Ranges and Schedules Ages: Months (Half Semester Class) Circle of Security Day Time Location Circle of Security is a parenting program which focuses on relationship building with new ways to understand your toddlers needs and behaviors and effective ways to respond to these. The program includes a DVD series as part of the discussion process. Tuesday Terrific Twos Ages: Months Independence, language, temper tantrums and sheer exuberance are all developmental issues for parents of 2-year-olds. After separating, parent discussion will include child development, temperament, routines, guiding behavior and school readiness. 6 preschool classes (36 months - kindergarten enrollment) Class Descriptions Age Ranges and Schedules Preschool STEM* *Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Does your child like to build and try to figure out how things work? Classroom activities will encourage problem-solving skills and explore the why behind how things work. Parent education topics will focus on ways parents can support their budding engineer. This class is aligned with the MPS STEM program and the Minnesota math and science standards. 10 FoR FamiLiES of ChiLdREN WiTh SPECiaL NEEdS Class Descriptions Special Friends Age Ranges and Schedules This class offers an opportunity for families of children Day Time Location with special needs, who are receiving early intervention services, and typically developing children to play and learn Friday 9:30-11:30 a.m. Wilder together. The parent discussion will cover various parenting topics relevant to the group. Children of all skill levels and their parents will benefit from this inclusive classroom. Minneapolis Public Schools Early Childhood Screening is a check on how your child is growing and developing. We screen children ages 3-5 years. Early Childhood Screening is required for entrance into kindergarten. D At your child s screening a trained professional will check your child s: health history, shot records, vision, hearing, height, weight, large and small muscles, thinking, language and communication skills and social and emotional development. Screen at 3 is better! Please contact us for an appointment when your child turns 3 years old by calling ECFE Home Visits ECFE home visitors are trained in the Parents as Teachers model for home visiting. Each visit includes activities for parents and children to participate in together, sharing of developmental information and discussion of family s questions and concerns. We receive most of our referrals from MPS Early Childhood Special Education, MPS Early Childhood Screening, Minnesota Visiting Nurses Association (MVNA) and Help Us Grow (HUG). We work in partnership with other mps and community programs to meet families where they are. Each partnership is unique and helps us reach young families in different ways. MPS Programs MPS Teen Parent Services (TPS) These programs are open to any minneapolis Public Schools student who is currently pregnant or parenting. The programs provide on-site childcare, transportation, prenatal and parenting education, and support services for student parents who are continuing their high school education in both traditional and alternative school settings. Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) serves students from birth to kindergarten identified as having a developmental delay (DD) or other disability. Screening for ECSE evaluation is available by calling ToTS (8687). Eligibility is determined through evaluation by minneapolis Public Schools. ECSE services are offered in the community, homes, child care sites and schools throughout the district. Call for more information. Three School a half day preschool program for minneapolis children who live in north minneapolis (from West broadway to 35th ave. N., and from Penn ave. N to Third St. N.) and turn three by September 1. Enrollment is limited to children who qualify for free and/or reduced-priced lunch. The Three School curriculum focuses on the development of the whole child including the areas of social and emotional, physical, language and literacy, creativity and the arts and cognitive development. Parents who are program participants are welcome to join their area Parent advisory Council (PaC). The Parent advisory Councils meet monthly to advise and support minneapolis ECFE. New members are always welcome. This is a wonderful opportunity to enhance the program and make connections with other ECFE families! You don t have to be a PaC member to be on this council.
