1 Correlation of EMC Publishing s Aventura! Spanish language learning series to the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21 st Century EMC/Paradigm Publishing s Aventura! series prides itself on its relationship with the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning. In fact the series was created to support and advance these standards. Aventura! combines the 5 Cs of communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities with interesting content, varied and effective methodology, interactive activities, and an ongoing discussion of the wealth of opportunities available to students through the study of Spanish. See pages TE19 in any Aventura! Teacher s Edition for more information on the program s philosophy and goals as a reflection of the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning. COMMUNICATION Authentic communication is the cornerstone of the Aventura! philosophy. Vocabulary is introduced in context to provide students with functional sets of words and ideas to use to communicate in Spanish. Standard 1.1: Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions. Activities involving students in oral communication are highlighted with an icon in all Aventura! pupil textbooks. Look for the icon that shows two or three people in conversation. In addition, each lesson begins with a Vocabulario spread and a Diálogo feature, many of which model basic conversational expressions, phrases, and questions. See also the Communicative Activities Manual.
