5 Level Two is a multi-skills syllabus which integrates themes, grammar, functions, vocabulary, and pronunciation. It is structured with the philosophy that language is best learned when it is used for meaningful communication. This level is aimed at adult learners who have elementary English language abilities. It allows learners to improve their communication, listening, reading and basic writing skills. The focus of this syllabus is on accuracy and fluency using natural conversational language. Grammar is taught in a communicative context which provides more opportunities to develop speaking and listening skills. Speaking activities are personalized to allow for enjoyment and fun in the classroom. The syllabus re-enforces skills learned in Level One by expanding on introductions, nationalities, time, schedules and routine activities. It also introduces elementary expressions for giving opinions, expressing likes and dislikes, and learning how to communicate when shopping. Emphasis is on exchanging information and describing places and people. Distinguishing between present tense and past tense is introduced. More focus is placed on writing skills than in Level One. Basic writing skills necessary for everyday life are practiced using the grammar skills and vocabulary learned in class. This includes writing questions, short messages and s, a personal ad, and a postcard. There are numerous additional group and pair work activities to practice the new language learned in class and to encourage students to interact and thus gain confidence. A section on culture introduces students to real-world situations and topics in the form of short videos and documentaries. This cultural aspect introduces English in a variety of countries and helps students to understand the use of language in real-world situations. It also helps them understand the similarities and differences to their own culture. A section for self study incorporates online activities related to the course book as well materials for improving listening skills.
