2 Version (Build 84) Introduction AtHoc IWSAlerts is a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) solution that transforms an organization s IP network into a comprehensive 2-way mass notification and emergency communications system. AtHoc IWSAlerts integrates with other alerting channels such as Public Address (PA) and Giant Voice indoor and outdoor communications, sirens, fire panels, telephony, and text-messaging systems. The AtHoc solution provides a single, unified console for managing, triggering, tracking, and controlling the emergency notification process across all delivery devices. This document details AtHoc IWSAlerts activation and integration with indoor and outdoor speaker and siren systems. Solution Overview and Benefits AtHoc IWSAlerts provides a Unified Notification management system, allowing operators to alert personnel from a single web-based console, including integration with and activation of local speaker and siren systems. Depending on the speaker/siren brand and model, the following capabilites may be available: 1. Alert messages can be delivered using one or more of the following: a. Dynamic text-to-speech b. Triggering pre-defined tones c. Triggering pre-recorded messages 2. Alert messages can be delivered to specific zones or siren poles using a map-based User Interface (UI) 3. Message activation can be tracked and reported, including delivery errors Other features and benefits: Single unified activation: AtHoc IWSAlerts can activate the speaker/siren system along with other devices as part of the same scenario, assisting in the streamlining of operations and reduction in alert activation time in emergency situations Simplifed alert activation: Simplified activation and message consistency across communication systems and delivery devices Consistent messaging: Operators can choose to have the speaker/siren system use the same message as other alerting devices or have a separate message as determined by the scenario or permitted operator Remote web-enabled activation: Web-enablement and remote activation of speaker/siren systems, allowing sirens to be activated from any network connected computer, providing activation redundancy Map-based selection: Support geographical based targeting using AtHoc s internal map based geo-targeting Scheduled automatic alerting: AtHoc IWSAlerts supports scheduled automatic siren activation; e.g. weekly test alert Permission-based activation: AtHoc IWSAlerts permission management system can limit speaker/siren activation to only authorized operators The integration of AtHoc IWSAlerts with the siren system will not interfere with the activation of the system using your existing activation console. 3 Integration Overview AtHoc IWSAlerts supports both IP-based and non-ip based mass notification devices. AtHoc uses common IP-based Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to connect with many networked devices. IWSAlerts can connect to your speaker/siren system directly over the IP network if your system: 1. supports the appropiate APIs (interface requirements are available from AtHoc), and 2. is certified and connected to the IP network AtHoc is working with many leading speaker/siren and Giant Voice vendors to ensure that product integrations are developed, tested, and certified. If your installed speaker/giant Voice system is not IP-enabled, AtHoc has developed an innovative technology: the AtHoc IP Integration Module (IIM). The AtHoc IIM Module allows the activation of non-ip voice systems from AtHoc IWSAlerts. The IIM is described in more detail in the following section. AtHoc IP Integration Module (IIM) For non-ip notification devices, AtHoc provides the IP Integration Module (IIM), allowing legacy or traditional non-ip based devices to be triggered via the AtHoc IWSAlerts Unified Notification management web console. The IP-aware IIM is connected to the organization s IP network. It interoperates with AtHoc IWSAlerts using the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) to communicate with the notification devices using any of the following interfaces: Serial interface (RS-232 or RS-485) Dry contacts (relays) Audio out DTMF and others The IIM typically connects and activates the siren or PA system s Central Control Unit (CCU) using its typical interfaces. Two IIM boxes can be used, each interfacing to a separate CCU, for redundancy. The IIM is certified as part of AtHoc IWSAlerts and has been successfully deployed at multiple customer locations, supporting integrations with Federal Signal, ADT, Whelen, Cooper Notification, Monroe Electronics (TV), Radio Systems, and others AtHoc, Inc. 4 Supported Integrations ADT AtHoc IWSAlerts integrates with ADT voice systems utilizing the IP Integration Module. The IIM interfaces with ADT Clear Warning using its Dial Tone interface. The IIM would need to reside in close proximity to the ADT Clear Warning CCU box and have a networked port. tones. The operator can also target by zone or a specific pole (zones and poles have to be pre-defined in the voice system) using the geo-based interface. American Signal AtHoc IWSAlerts integrates with American Signal voice systems utilizing the IP Integration Module. The IIM interfaces with American Signal CSC-960 using an RS-232 interface. The IIM would need to reside in close proximity to the CSC-960 and have a networked port. tones. The operator can also target by zone or a specific pole (zones and poles have to be pre-defined in the voice system) using the geo-based interface. ATI Systems AtHoc IWSAlerts integrates with ATI voice systems utilizing the IP Integration Module. The IIM interfaces with ATI CCU/React-4000 using an RS-232 interface. The IIM would need to reside in close proximity to the ATI CCU box and have a networked port. The ATI CCU would need a second RS-232 card and will require firmware version or higher. Once integrated, operators can disseminate emergency alerts to siren systems from the AtHoc IWSAlerts tones. The operator can also dynamically target the zones or specific poles using the geo-based interface. Benbria AtHoc IWSAlerts integrates with Benbria BlazeCast using OASIS CAP over IP to activate Benbria driven IP speakers. Once integrated, operators can activate emergency audio alerts to Benbria IP speakers from the AtHoc IWSAlerts management console. Alert messages can be delivered using pre-recorded wave files or by text-to-speech (on Benbria side). The operator can also target by zone or a specific speakers (zones and speakers have to be pre-defined in the Benbria BlazeCast system) using the geo-based interface. CentrAlert AtHoc IWSAlerts integrates with CentrAlert CCU utilizing the IP Integration Module. The IIM interfaces with CentrAlert v4.7 using high speed (921Kpbs) serial RS-485 interface. The IIM would need to reside in close proximity to the CentrAlert CCU to support the high speed serial communication. Once integrated, operators use the AtHoc IWSAlerts management console to disseminate emergency alerts to the CentrAlert connected outdoor speakers. Alert messages can be delivered using: Predefined CentrAlert scripts, for example sounding predefined emergency tones 2012 AtHoc, Inc. All rights reserved. Page 4 of 8

5 Dynamic activation using text-to-speech or audio from the audio library (up to 2.5MB WAV audio files). The operator can dynamically target speaker poles (all, group or single) for geography based activation. The AtHoc IWSAlerts to CentrAlert IIM based integartion supports continuous monitoring of the integration link to proactively notify IWSAlerts operators should an issue arise. Cooper Notification AtHoc IWSAlerts integrates with Cooper Notification WAVES base station utilizing the IP Integration Module. The IIM interfaces WAVES v7.3.4 with AtHoc IWSAlerts Integration kit v3 using a high-speed (921Kpbs) serial RS-485 interface. The IIM would need to reside in close proximity to the Cooper Notification WAVES base station to support the high-speed serial communication. AtHoc IWSAlerts continuously monitors the integration link and the WAVES system status; enabling proactive notification of AtHoc IWSAlerts operators should any problems occur. The integration supports high availability (primary alternate) WAVES configurations requiring an IIM per each WAVES base station. Once integrated, operators use the AtHoc IWSAlerts management console to disseminate emergency alerts to the WAVES-connected notification devices including outdoor speakers (HPSA), indoor speakers and LED signs. Alert messages can be delivered using: Predefined WAVES scripts, which can control any device, for example sounding predefined emergency tones Dynamic activation using text-to-speech or audio from the audio library (up to 1.5MB WAV audio files), with programmable repeat capability, and text message delivered to LED signs. The operator can dynamically target notification devices in WAVES zones for geography-based activation. Federal Signal AtHoc IWSAlerts integrates with Federal Signal voice systems utilizing the IP Integration Module. The IIM interfaces with Federal Signal SS2000 using an RS-232 interface. The IIM would need to reside in close proximity to the SS2000 and have a networked port. tones. The operator can also target by zone or a specific pole (zones and poles have to be pre-defined in the voice system) using the geo-based interface. SimplexGrinnell AtHoc IWSAlerts integrates with SimplexGrinnell fire panels utilizing the IP Integration Module. The IIM interfaces with SimplexGrinnell 4100 fire panel using a relay and audio interface via 25V audio amplifier. The IIM would need to reside in close proximity to the 4100 fire panel Unit and have a networked port. Each 4100 fire panel requires its own IIM, and it is typical to have one or more IIM per building. Once integrated, operators can disseminate emergency alerts to the 4100 fire panels from the AtHoc IWSAlerts management console. Alert messages can be delivered using text-to-speech or pre-recorded wave files (managed in IWSAlerts audio library). 6 Talk A Phone AtHoc IWSAlerts integrates with TalkAPhone voice systems utilizing the IP Integration Module. The IIM interfaces with WEBS-PCU Paging Command Unit using an IP and audio interface. The IIM would need to reside in close proximity to the WEBS-PCU Paging Command Unit and have a networked port. tones. The operator can also target by zone or a specific pole (zones and poles have to be pre-defined in the voice system) using the geo-based interface. Whelen AtHoc IWSAlerts integrates with Whelen voice systems utilizing the IP Integration Module. The IIM interfaces with Whelen E-2010 and E-969 using the Remote Input Call Keys (Dry Contacts) interface. The IIM would need to reside in close proximity to the Whelen E-2010 or E-969 box and have a networked port. management console. Alert messages can be delivered using text-to-speech or by triggering up to four pre-defined Keys (E-969 supports two pre-defined Keys). The operator can also target by zone or specific pole (zones and poles have to be pre-defined in the voice system) using the geo-based interface. The number of zones available for activation are limited and dependent on the specific implementation; it is recommended that you discuss the operational requirements with an AtHoc implementation engineer before choosing which pre-defined tones and zones are to be activated from AtHoc IWSAlerts AtHoc, Inc.
