2 PREREQUISITES/ CO-REQUISITES/EQUIVALENTS MGT 2070/ECON 2070 Operations and Quantitative Management COURSE DESCRIPTION The purpose of this course is to gain a general knowledge on the concept of Supply Chain Management, its necessity, processes, and supporting technologies. Moreover, the course covers theories and techniques on quality and quantity management. Interesting notions on price and cost management, product delivery, supply chain performance management, supplier selection and evaluation, as well as crucial lessons on global, ethical, and legal sides of SCM will be discussed. The course director will teach related materials from the textbook, websites, and academic/business journals. This is an interactive class. Students participation is highly encourage for better learning outcomes. Various videos and case studies will be discussed in class. At the end of the semester, students will have the ability to discuss the basics of SCM as well as generate ideas and make practical business decisions on concepts such as purchasing, supply chain processes, Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) solutions, and supplier selection. This course is designed in a way to support students in their career decision making. 3 PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENTS 1. Class Participation - students are encouraged to interactively participate in class discussions and case study reviews. 2. Individual assignments - there are two individual assignments (case studies) for this course. The assignments will be introduced in class on Jan. 29 th and Feb. 12 th. 3. SCM group project - groups of three students are required to conduct a research on an SCM enterprise solution and report the results via a presentation on Thursday, Mar. 12 th. This project will be thoroughly explained on Thursday, Jan. 22 nd. 4. Final group project - groups of three students (same groups as for the SCM project) are required to work on an SCM project with a focus on supplier selection. Each group must prepare a write-up and a presentation for this project. A thorough introduction to the aforementioned project will be covered on Thursday, Feb. 5 th. 5. Final exam - a final exam will be taken based on the materials covered in class (textbook, papers, case studies, videos, etc.). It is the responsibility of students to check the prerequisites for courses before registration. If students are found to be registered in a course for which they do not have the prerequisites and they have not received prior permission from the appropriate program chair, they can be de-registered. If this occurs after the drop/add date, tuition will not be refunded. 2. Final Examinations. Students who fail to write final examinations must provide satisfactory evidence of illness or extenuating circumstances AND must have the approval of the Dean for a makeup exam. Work commitments, holidays or traffic are not considered legitimate reasons for missing an exam. For unsubstantiated missed final exams that are not approved for makeup by a Dean, a grade of F (0 marks) will be given. MGT 3070 Y Spring
4 Deferred final exams can only be written at times set by the school and instructor. Please note that if a final exam deferral is granted, the date will be set by the instructor and department. Students who fail to write a deferred final examination must provide satisfactory evidence of illness or extenuating circumstances AND must have the approval of the Dean for a makeup exam. Work commitments, holidays or traffic are not considered legitimate reasons for missing an exam. For missed deferred exams, a grade of F (0 marks) will be given. 3. Conduct of Examinations: The instructor may articulate regulations for late entry to and early exit from the examination room. Instructors may also prescribe or restrict materials that may be used during the exam. No material aids including such items as: mobile phones, computers, or other digital devices, may be brought into the examination site without prior approval from the instructor. Please see additional examination policies in the 2014/2015 University Calendar, page Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism: Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism will not be tolerated and will automatically result in a zero grade for the submission. Any student caught plagiarizing may also be subject to additional University sanctions. The University of Lethbridge subscribes to an electronic plagiarism detection service. Students may be required to submit their written work in electronic form for plagiarism checking. 5. Student Conduct: The University s policies are described in the calendar and all students are expected to read, familiarize, and comply with them. Special care should be taken to understand the Student Discipline Policy for academic and non-academic offenses as listed in part 4, sections 4 through 8 of the 2014/2015 Academic Calendar. Students will respect the basic standards of intellectual integrity, including, but not limited to, refraining from plagiarism, cheating or duplicating someone else s work. In addition, students are expected to take an active role in encouraging other members of the academic community to refrain from academic dishonesty, and are asked to advise the instructor if they are aware of any such violations. This provision applies to any work submitted as a group project. CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS Attendance - Please endeavour to attend all classes. If you are unable to attend class, please let the instructor know as soon as possible. If you are late to a class, please be discreet upon entering the class. Be aware, however, that you are still responsible for the material covered during the class. Assignment Submission - Unless otherwise specified, assignments must be submitted electronically by the start of class on the date due. Assignments that are late will have 1 mark deducted per day to a maximum of three days. Thereafter, a grade of 0 will be assigned accordingly. Use of Electronic Devices - You may use electronic devices during class at your discretion, except during examinations, guest lectures, and your fellow classmates presentations.
