2 Master Plan Projects summary infrastructure Projects ROSENBLATT STADIUM When this facility becomes the property of the Zoo it will be necessary to remove the existing structures. This allows for a redesigned approach to the Zoo to take place, the development of additional parking, and a feature commemorating its former use. HOSPITAL & NECROPSY New Zoo healthcare facility to support an expanded collection located adjacent to the existing service zone area at the northeast corner of the campus. TEST BUDGET: $7.5M COASTAL SHORES New sea lion and polar bear exhibits surrounding a North American coastal themed children s splash zone and play area. This will be located adjacent to the existing carousel area. On the site formerly occupied by bears, swan valley and points north. TEST BUDGET: $22.0M Projects summary TEST BUDGET: $2.5M SERVICE ROAD & LANDSCAPING Create a dedicated service path around the Zoo that allows for access to all of the major animal buildings without inconveniencing our guests. This path will also enable guest services to maintain and stock their facilities. As new areas are developed like the event lawn this service path will allow programs and events to be carried out with little interruption to the operation of the Zoo. Continue to improve our landscaping by developing a more intimate feel and incorporating the approach to an exhibit setting the mood for the experience you are about to enjoy. TEST BUDGET: $1.5M PARKING Expanded centralized visitor parking area with over 3000 Zoo parking spaces. TEST BUDGET: $2.0M INFRASTRUCTURE These funds are necessary to maintain and improve our roads and paths, replace railroad ties and maintain those service buildings that are not endowed. As the Zoo grows, an addition of another electrical circuit will become necessary as well as upgrading aging sewers, plumbing and other utilities. TEST BUDGET: $5.0M strategic services Project MAIN ENTRY & FRONT PLAZA New dedicated Zoo administration facility, guest services building, gift shop, and ticket-taking gateway located in and around the footprint of the existing entry area and IMAX theater. TEST BUDGET: $13.5M ANIMAL & GUEST SERVICE SUPPORT Includes service road, cold storage, and bird winter holding. TEST BUDGET: $2.5M animal anchor & attraction Projects AFRICAN GRASSLANDS PHASE 1 Expansion to the existing giraffe and adjacent habitat zone with added mixed hoofstock species. New state-of-the-art elephant facilities and habitats replacing former hoofstock and zebra enclosures. A new cheetah exhibit, event lawn, buildings, and expanded/enhanced Garden of the Senses. TEST BUDGET: $34.0M AFRICAN GRASSLANDS PHASE 2 Redeveloped zone, located at the former elephant and rhino site at the eastern end of the Zoo, for savanna predator and prey species showcasing lion, wild dogs, rhino, and one of the largest sable herds in the U.S. Also, would include possibility of hippos or Nile crocodile. TEST BUDGET: $23.0M ASIAN HIGHLANDS New anchor exhibit attraction winding through an existing undeveloped forest and hillside featuring the Zoo s tiger collection and a diverse array of other Asian species. Other species would include leopard, takin, gaur, camel, red panda, sun bear, and birds. TEST BUDGET: $18.0M ANDEAN FOOTHILLS New anchor exhibit attraction at the northwest corner of the zoo featuring South American predators including bears, jaguars, puma, and wolves and a diverse array of birds, primates, ungulates, and reptiles. A themed village with restrooms, and food and gift will anchor the entry and exit to this new attraction. EQUATORIAL AFRICA Expanding on the success of adjacent Hubbard Gorilla Valley, this project will add Central African forest dwellers okapi, red river hog, and bongo as an immersive outdoor forest trail experience. TEST BUDGET: $4.0M AQUARIUM WITH EDUCATION / CONFERENCE CENTER The entrance sign to the aquarium will be relocated off the main path. The outdoor concession area will be revitalized and the former penguin yard will be repurposed as a children s play area. The indoor upgrade includes a combination of new aquariums, major exhibits that were designed to be completed at a later date, the addition of an entire area dedicated to jellyfish, and major renovations to some of the existing exhibits. A new complete interpretive package and the addition of a 400 person multi use education / conference center complete this package. TEST BUDGET: $7.0M KOMODO DRAGON EXHIBIT Located on the plaza adjacent to IMAX and the Desert Dome, Komodo dragon will be new to the Zoo s collection and will provide a major attraction that will help with the transformation of the plaza area. The exhibit will consist of holding, indoor dayrooms, public viewing, and outdoor habitats.
