Bat Armadillo Panther Baby bats nurse for two months and then fly, chasing mosquitoes across the night sky. Armadillo babies come in fours. All are girls or all are boys. They nurse five months and then they say, What else is there to eat today? If I were a mother panther and climbed on rocks and trees, I d nurse my babies in the dark and do just as I please. Grizzly Bear Giraffe Human Grizzly-bear babies are born with no hair. They nurse in a cave while their mother sleeps there. Giraffe babies nurse one month only, then lunch with friends so they won t be lonely. Lucky is the human who nurses two full years: Breastmilk helps improve her eyes, brain, and ears.

Horse Panda Cow Mother horses are mares; their babies are foals, and they are still nursing when they re six-month-olds. Rabbit Panda babies drink panda milk until they re two years of age. Then they chew on sweet bamboo, which makes them very sage. Raccoon A cow has four stomachs and takes her time grazing. She takes pride in the calves that she s nursing and raising. Elephant Baby bunnies nurse for six weeks or more. There s plenty of milk for bunnies galore. Raccoons are very clean and neat. They wash their hands and wash their feet. And when their babies nurse at night, they lick their paws and hug them tight. An elephant calf nurses two full years to help grow his trunk and his elephant ears.

Pig Porcupine Chipmunk Pigs are born about 10 to a litter. They nurse for 10 weeks and couldn t be fitter. Polar Bear A porcupette is a baby porcupine. He nurses very carefully, a prickly way to dine. Whale Baby chipmunks nurse about eight weeks with their mother, playing and chattering and teasing each other. Dog The polar bear lives in a climate that s cold, among the ice and snow. She nurses her cub for 20 months and protects him from their foe. Whales gulp, under water, squirts of milk so thick the baby is unlikely ever to get sick. Puppies love their mother s milk until they re eight weeks old. It puts the wiggle in their tail and makes their bark so bold.

Deer Hyena Llama Baby deer, or fawns, have spots to protect them, and for four months mother s milk won t neglect them. Tiger It s hard to nurse when you re laughing so hard, but a mother hyena is really a card! Aardvark Roaming the Andes, chewing her cud, she nurses her baby because she should. She s a good little breastfeeding llama mama. Without her milk, life would be trauma. Kangaroo The mother tiger has no fear, no fear of man or beast. She nurses her cubs for six long months and they have quite a feast! If you ever go to Egypt, you might chance to meet two nursing baby aardvarks, resting near your feet. They nurse for 4 months, then fill up their tummy with termites and ants isn t that yummy? Kangaroos may nurse two joeys both at once: one inside her pouch, and one who can pack a punch.

Gorilla Hippopotamus Kangaroo Rat Mommy gorillas nurse their babies two years. They cradle them gently and kiss away their tears. Lion The hippo loves her baby s pretty face. To nurse less than eight months would be a disgrace! Lynx The kangaroo rat is not very fat. She lives in a climate that s dry. She nurses her litter for about five weeks. Can you tell me why? Duck-Billed Platypus In the jungle the lion is KING. His babies are his pride. Lion cubs nurse four full months, staying close to their Mama s side. A zoo keeper told me this is what she thinks: There is nothing sweeter than a nursing baby lynx. Oh, say, can you see the duck-billed platypus? She s nursing her babies, Morticia and Flattimus. She hatched them out of a platypus shell, an odd little habit she learned very well. ( An egg? you say, from a mammal that nurses? Next you'll tell me pigs ears make silk purses! )

Seal Skunk Tapir The hooded seal s home is cold as ice, but she nurses a lot for three days, which is nice. For seven weeks the baby skunk drinks. I wonder if the skunk milk stinks? The tapir nurses one full year, and then eats plants, or so I hear. Wolf Zebra Urial Mother wolves have five pups in their litters. Pups nurse five months, those cute little critters! Zebras don t drink water for three months, just their mother s milk. They nurse for eight to 13 months, so their coat is smooth as silk. There once was a young mother urial, who named her daughter Sweet Muriel. She nursed her 12 weeks midst tall mountain peaks, then weaned her to grasses and cereal!

Cat Monkey Sheep The mother cat nurses her kittens several times a day. If they fight over spilled milk, she up and walks away. Koala Did you ever see a monkey who lived in a zoo? Her baby was nursing and pointing at you! Camel Baa, baa, Mother Sheep, have you milk today? Yes, sir, yes, sir, so my lambs won t stray. Beaver The baby koala climbs into his mother s pouch. He nurses for nine months, you see, and then he climbs back out. The camel can go weeks without water and still nurse her babies, her son and daughter. The beaver is busy building her dam, working like a beaver. Still, she takes time to nurse her young, so they won t get a fever.
