Moose Mountain Artist Colony 1.1 Introduction Located on the shores of Kenosee Lake, the Moose Mountain Provincial Park (MMPP) Artist Colony is an inspiring and peaceful setting for creating, displaying and selling original works of art. The colony consists of four stone cabins, originally built in 1931 as rental cabins to accommodate the influx of vacationers to the newly formed provincial park. Today, two of the cabins in the colony are permanent art studios/commercial display spaces, held by our long term artists who utilize their cabins for the entire summer. The other two Artisans Cabins are available for studio/display space to qualifying artists for one (minimum) to two (maximum) week stays between May Long Weekend and September Long Weekend. Cabins may be available for full season stays, contact (306) for full-time conditions of use. The cabins are not to be used for handicraft shops or souvenir booths and we encourage our artists to develop public programming to help share their artistic eye with the community. Business transactions are limited to the sale of original artwork and art lessons. Applications for 2013 will be taken as of January 7, Location Located in the southeast corner of Saskatchewan, MMPP is 24 km north of Carlyle on Highway # 9 or 55 km south of Hwy #1 at Whitewood. The park is just a 1.5 hour drive from Weyburn and Estevan, 1 hour and 45 minutes from Yorkton, and two hours southeast of Regina. The Artist Colony is located directly adjacent to the historic stone Chalet building

3 (now the Park Administration Office and Visitor Centre). Take your second left after the park entry gate and follow the signs. 1.2 Fees The Artisan Cabin is available free of charge to qualifying artisans. You are required to have a valid park entry pass for the duration of your time in the park. Park Entry Fees: Annual (transferable, valid for any Saskatchewan Provincial Park) - $50.00 Weekly - $ Day - $17.00 Daily - $7.00 Saskatchewan Resident FREE See Section 2.2 for accommodation rates. 1.3 Artisan Cabin Details The cabin is roughly 500 square feet divided into two rooms of equal size. There is electricity in the cabin but no running water. Water is available from a tap just outside the cabin. There is an outhouse available on site. Modern washroom facilities with sink and toilet are available in the Visitor Centre, just steps away from the cabin. The Visitor Centre is open 8 a.m. 5 p.m. M-F during June and 10 a.m. 6 p.m. daily in July and August. The cabin does not contain any furniture or display materials. Nails and hooks are allowed in the walls but please try to use holes from previous tenants whenever possible. 1.4 Public Programming We encourage our artists to develop public programming to help share their artistic eye with the community. Programs might include anything from children s art adventures to adult workshops or hike and sketch programs. Discuss your programming ideas with the Program Coordinator or any of the Park Visitor Program Staff. They can assist you with planning, pre-registration, promotion and perhaps even assist with some costs of your programming.

4 1.5 Responsibilities and Conditions Conditions of Use: Artist Cabin Short- Term 1. The User will comply with the following special conditions: A) All park regulations apply to the use of the Artisan Cabin. B) Will not use the Artisan cabin as accommodation within the park. C) Must be available and open to the public 100% of the time between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekends (and all statutory holidays) and 40 percent of the time during the week (approx. 2 weekdays per week). D) Will use the Artisan Cabin for creating, displaying and selling original artwork ONLY. Will not offer any other goods, services or handicrafts for sale through the Artisan Cabin. Services offered will be limited to art lessons or art programming. 2. The User shall ensure that all garbage and waste materials resulting from the use of the Artisan Cabin are properly disposed of in facilities designated by the Ministry, to the satisfaction of the Ministry. 3. The User shall, immediately following the end date of this agreement, remove all property from the building, and restore the area to the satisfaction of the Ministry. 4. The User shall be liable to the Government of Saskatchewan for any damage to park buildings, furniture, facilities or grounds caused by the User, its employees or agents, or by participants in or customers of the hirer. 5. The Ministry reserves the right to terminate this agreement, in the event that, in the sole discretion of the Ministry, the hirers work or conduct is not deemed suitable for a general audience. 6. 5 2. Moose Mountain Provincial Park 2.1 Park Overview MMPP is a stunning Trembling Aspen forest which comprises some 40,000 hectares in the Moose Mountain Uplands. The uplands are an area geographically and ecologically unique in south-eastern Saskatchewan. The park is considered to be one of the most productive ecosystems in the province, supporting a high diversity of plants and animals. It is an island of natural landscape surrounded by intensive agriculture. The uplands have a long history of human habitation from First Nations ancestors through European settlement. The park is the largest protected area representative of the aspen parkland eco-region in the province and is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the provincial parks system. 2.2 Accommodations MMPP has over 330 campsites ranging from fully serviced to non-electric. With a wide variety of both reservable and first-come, first-served sites, you are sure to find the perfect spot.
