2 1 WHAT WILL I BE 2 LEARNING IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE THIS ACADEMIC YEAR? GCSE English Language allows students to demonstrate your ability to use English in real life contexts. You will investigative and analyse language and draw upon your own personal experience both in the Spoken Language module and Creative Writing Tasks. Your Of Mice and Men module will allow you to analyse characterisation and the author s craft in depth. WHICH EXAM BOARD/ SYLLABUS WILL I BE FOLLOWING THIS YEAR IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE? AQA English Language This year, the teaching of English Language has changed In the past, pupils have been assessed through Coursework and an exam. From now on, Coursework is no more! Instead you will be assessed through an exam and CONTROLLED ASSESSMENTS which MUST be completed in school under STRICT guidance.

3 IS THERE A SPECIFIC HOW IS THIS COURSE 3 4 TEXTBOOK I WILL BE ASSESSED? USING? 4 5 WILL I BE ABLE TO IMPROVE MY CONTROLLED ASSESSMENT MARK? 6 WILL I HAVE A MOCK EXAM THIS YEAR? You will be able to sit a new controlled assessment task on a topic you have already covered if your teachers decide that you have underachieved on a particular piece. Your mock exam will take place in the summer term of Year 10. To do this you will need to attend after school sessions to prepare you for the controlled assessment, which will then be completed, again after school, under the supervision of a member of the English department. Work sheets and extra homework tasks will be given to you to complete independently as part of the preparation for your new controlled assessment.

5 7 WHAT CAN I DO AT HOME TO HELP ME PREPARE FOR MY EXAMS AND CONTROLLED ASSESSMENTS THIS YEAR? 8 WILL THERE BE ANY REVISION SESSIONS AVAILABLE TO HELP ME? Ensure you complete all homework tasks. You should spend an hour on each homework task. No, as you will not be sitting any exams in Year 10.
