3 Conference Overview To provide optimal patient care, the anesthesia provider must maintain up-to-date knowledge involving health care delivery. This program is designed to review and update the knowledge and skills of anesthesia providers as it relates to current professional practice. The three- day format will allow optimal time for education while providing time to enjoy the Nemacolin experience. Intended Audience This program is designed for anesthesiologists, residents, certified registered nurse anesthetists and student registered nurse anesthetists, as well as nurses and allied health care providers. Conference Objectives At the conclusion, participants should be able to: n Discuss the potential impact of HCAHPS on anesthesia reimbursement and competency evaluation n List the side effects and challenges that anticoagulation therapy has on the surgical/ anesthetic patient n Review the most useful preoperative testing by age, procedure and history n Develop an appreciation for the future of cognitive aids in the operating room in the face of the current medical-political environment n Demonstrate and discuss the use of cognitive aids in the operating room n Review the anesthetic implications of exposure in a mass casualty environment n List the most common present and future uses for hybrid OR and review complications n Describe interaction of common street drugs with anesthesia and how to safely provide anesthesia to these patients n Discuss the best treatment methods to provide optimal pain control and early ambulation in the post operative setting n Review new approaches in OB anesthesia in regard to analgesia delivery, transfusion guidelines for hemorrhage, and c-section management n Discuss latest treatment options for patients with malignant hyperthermia n Explain how Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) benefits patient outcomes and cost n Discuss the legal ramifications of cell phone usage during patient care n Identify indications and contraindications for awake crani and appropriate dosing of anesthetic agents used n Review anesthetic implications during CABG and valvular surgery n Discuss unique aspects of managing LVAD patients such as preoperative assessment and monitoring
