Shell Cariphalte Abilities stand out
Shell Cariphalte The range that rises to the challenges our modern roads face Abilities stand out Increased traffic, a greater number of heavy goods vehicles on the road and climatic variations all these factors are severely testing our road infrastructure and have led to one clear observation: conventional bitumen does not always meet the needs of modern roads. This problem demands solutions adapted to present and future road needs, whilst complying with European product standards. Shell Bitumen has designed the Shell Cariphalte polymer modified bitumen range to provide solutions for all types of roads. Shell Cariphalte technology, the product of 40 years expertise and continual development, has earned us an international reputation. Our know-how, supply capability, service standards and reputation all help make Shell Bitumen an ideal partner. Selecting a bitumen supplier is often determined by the material s reliability and durability. However, there can be no substitute for supply reliability and we have an extensive global and regional bitumen supply network. Helping you to benefit from a reliable supply and complete projects on schedule. That s why the products in the Shell Cariphalte range are in demand worldwide, from motorways to airfields and even Formula One racetracks! Disruption to traffic flow during maintenance work constitutes a significant proportion of the cost of roadworks. The use of polymer modified bitumen offers a solution by helping to reduce the frequency of maintenance required at particular locations and to provide an increased service life for maintenance treatments. Shell Cariphalte polymer modified binders are manufactured by blending selected high performing polymers with carefully chosen base bitumen. This allows Shell Cariphalte to be used in challenging situations, where increased performance is required. It is formulated to offer improved resistance to deformation and fatigue of the asphalt and to provide better adhesion between bitumen and aggregate compared to conventional bitumen. Shell Cariphalte Maximise performance, minimise risk!
Shell Cariphalte High Performance Enjoy a multitude of benefits Many products can only be used for a single type of application, but Shell Cariphalte High Performance is different. It has been designed for use in the production of multiple asphalt types, so increasing the flexibility of your plant. Shell Cariphalte High Performance has been created to deliver improved resistance to deformation and cracking under high stress conditions, such as roads, bus lanes, airfields, ports and industrial estates. Typical applications include thin surfacing, drainage asphalt, hot rolled asphalt and other mixtures where a superior performing polymer modified binder is required. Shell Cariphalte High Performance has been formulated to provide an enhanced technical performance and to give you more confidence in your road s end performance. Shell Cariphalte Thin Surfacing Designed to meet modern surfacing demands Shell Cariphalte Thin Surfacing has been formulated to reduce the drainage of bitumen from the asphalt during mixing and transportation. The addition of polymer helps to improve adhesion between the aggregates and binder, therefore improving the resistance to moisture ingress. Shell Cariphalte Thin Surfacing is designed for use in thin surfacing and stone mastic asphalt (SMA) applications. Shell Cariphalte Base A long road life needs a good base Our Shell Cariphalte Base product has been specially designed to help prolong the life of your road bringing advanced technology to the UK market. Shell Cariphalte Base, specifically for use in lower layers, is a modified binder, formulated to give a greater resistance to cracking and permanent deformation. It has also been designed to give greatly improved levels of adhesion to aggregates resulting in exceptional resistance to moisture damage. Shell Cariphalte Base is ideal for the maintenance of pavements, distressed lower levels of pavements as well as for new pavement builds particularly where it is expected to be under significant high stress/loading situations, for example, bus lanes, ports, airfields, highways and industrial estates.
Shell Cariphalte Dense Mixture Designed to handle the most stressful situations Our Shell Cariphalte Dense Mixture product is designed for the most stressful situations, such as heavy loads and high volume traffic. Previously known as Cariphalte DM, Shell Cariphalte Dense Mixture has been a top performing polymer modified bitumen in the UK for over 25 years, demonstrating the benefits of highly modified binders in stressful situations. In addition to extensive use in Clause 943 High Performance Hot Rolled asphalt, Shell Cariphalte Dense Mixture has been used on bridge decks, in crack relief systems, Stress Absorbing Membrane Interfaces and to overlay concrete pavements. Shell Cariphalte Dense Mixture has demonstrated success in asphalt mixtures that require high resistance to permanent deformation and cracking. Now that s a product that s tough to beat. Shell Cariphalte Fuel Resisting Increased resistance where it s needed most A polymer modified bitumen designed to provide increased resistance to asphalt surfaces that may be exposed to petroleumbased fuels (petrol, diesel and kerosene), in areas such as airfields, ports, car parks and bus lanes. Internal Shell 28 day diesel immersion tests have shown that Shell Cariphalte Fuel Resisting can help reduce material loss by up to 60 times compared to the equivalent penetration grade binder. Shell Cariphalte Racetrack A high performance surface for high performance vehicles Shell Bitumen s proven technology has already been used at the Formula One circuits of Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Sepang in Malaysia, Sakhir in Bahrain, Hockenheim in Germany, Ferrari s own Fiorano test track in Italy and Nürburgring in Germany. Asada Harinsuit, Shell Bitumen Vice President said: Shell Bitumen is renowned for its technical solutions and extensive experience in binders for race tracks. We are pleased to see Shell Cariphalte Racetrack selected as the preferred binder for the Singapore Formula One Grand Prix circuit. The high cohesive strength of the binder is designed to allow it to withstand horizontal sheer forces when a race car accelerates or brakes into the corner, making Shell Cariphalte Racetrack the ideal solution.
Shell Cariphalte BENEFITS THAT can MAKE A DIFFERENCE Abilities stand out The performance of the Shell Cariphalte range of polymer modified binders is the result of decades of worldwide experience as a leading bitumen supplier. These advanced products, manufactured by blending selected high performing polymers with carefully chosen base bitumen, are designed to offer improved adaptability, durability and reliability compared to conventional bitumen to provide you with the solution you want for the job you need to do. Key benefits: Durability Due to its resistance to permanent deformation and superior resistance to stress compared to conventional bitumen, Shell Cariphalte is the ideal choice for busy roads Reliability The reassurance of knowing you have a reliable product created by one of the world s leading technical specialists in bitumen manufacturing References from around the globe: Formula One racetracks: Sepang (Malaysia), Sakhir (Bahrain), Marina Bay Circuit Park (Singapore), Hockenheim (Germany) and Yas Marina (Abu Dhabi). Main roads: A20 motorway, A2 motorway (Germany), A54 motorway (France), E17 motorway (Belgium), M25, M6 Toll, A38, A14, M1 (UK), Chang an Avenue (China). Airports & bridges: Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam (Netherlands), Frankfurt Airport (Germany), Changi for the Airbus A380 (Singapore), Edinburgh Airport (UK), Heathrow Airport (UK), Phnom Penh Airport (Cambodia), Zürich Kloten (Switzerland), Rion-Antirrion Bridge (Greece). Adaptability Specially formulated polymer modified bitumen gives Shell Cariphalte flexible qualities and an ability to adapt to demands the road may throw at you.
