2 Onduline Garden Roof Range Onduline Mini Profile The new Onduline Mini Profile sheets have been designed to enhance the aesthetic appeal and roofing performance of garden timber frame buildings. Onduline Mini Profile is made with 24mm corrugations utilising the same proven manufacturing process as used on the traditional Onduline 38mm corrugated sheet. Its low profile makes it ideal for use on sheds, summer houses, workshops and garages. The new Onduline Mini Profile sheet provides a significantly enhanced weathering performance in comparison to traditional shed grade felts and shingles. The Mini Profile is easy to handle and forms a tough, durable roof covering supported by a ten year weathering guarantee.* Onduline Mini Profile sheets provide a low maintenance roof, all you need to do is to clear the seasonal leaf fall off to keep your roof in tip top condition for many years service. 3 Fixing Guide Onduline Mini Profile is simple to fix, just follow these simple instructions to ensure a long lasting roof covering. Roof support: The key to a good roof installation is getting the roof support right in the first place, so it s well worth taking the time to ensure the roof will provide a sound base for the Mini Profile sheets. First always inspect, repair and reinforce the existing roof structure as required. Fixing options Decked roofs minimum roof slope: 10º degrees Gradient 1 in 6 Fig. 1 Overlaying an existing felted roof deck: (Fig. 1) Check that the roof structure is sound and adequately supported and provides a reasonably flat base. Then check that the thickness of the deck will accept the nominal 25mm penetration of the mini profile nails, if this is the case then proceed to the sheet fixing guide. Note: It is not advisable for nail heads to penetrate into the roof space and in this case an additional layer of a suitable roof decking be overlaid to provide additional thickness to accept nails, or alternatively screw battens onto the existing felted deck and fix the Mini Profile to the battens as set out in Fig. 2 the sheet fixing guide. Battened roofs minimum roof slope: 15º degrees Gradient 1 in 4 Laying Mini Profile on battens: (Fig. 2) Mark and fix treated timber battens at 450mm centres by either screwing or nailing the battens to the existing deck or roof trusses. Check with your timber supplier to ensure the section of timber batten is sufficient to span the distance between the truss fixing points. At the ridge fix an additional batten to accept the ridge fixings (Fig. 10). Once you are satisfied with the support provided to the sheet follow the sheet laying instructions set out in the sheet fixing guide. Fig. 2 Lined & battened roofs minimum roof slope: 10º degrees Gradient 1 in 6 Lined and battened roof: (Fig. 3) To enhance the buildings internal environment and the general roof performance we recommend a lined roof. This can be easily created by first fixing treated battens at 600mm centres. Then overlay purlins them with either T&G boards, Exterior quality plywood, Sterling or OSB roof decking boards. The Mini Profile Sheets are then fixed by nailing through the decking into the battens as described in the sheet fixing guide below. Ref: Fig. 18 Fig. 3

4 Sheet Fixing Guide Caution The covering of roofs can be a hazardous operation. All work must be carried out with due regard to health and safety regulations, as set out in HSG33 (Roof work). ti on o Tw a ug si de p la rr co Fig. 4 Fig. 5 Fig mm end lap Once the roof support has been correctly set out and fixed, the Onduline Mini Profile sheets are simple to lay by lapping the sheets with a two corrugation side lap (Fig. 4) and a 200mm sheet end lap. (Fig. 5). When fixing the sheets with more than one row of sheets start alternate rows with a half sheet to create a broken bond laying pattern. This is recommended to avoid a 4 ply thickness of material at the corner sheet laps. (Fig. 6). Fig. 9 Fig; 9 Fig. 7 Fig. 8 Fig. 10 At the eaves (Fig. 7) allow a maximum of a 50mm sheet overhang. If the decking board edge is damaged an Onduline batten cloaking flashing can be used to protect the board and greatly improve the aesthetic of the roof. At the verge to the side of the roof fix a treated timber board fitted under the last corrugation of the Mini Profile sheet to seal the side of the roof. The ridge sections (Fig. 8) are are laid with a 125mm side overlap. If battens are being used remember to fix an additional batten to accept ridge fixings (Fig. 9) at the abutment of the verge boards and ridge. A finial plate shound be cut out from plywood to seal the ridge line. Tin snips can be used to trim the ridge section as required. (Fig. 10) Fig. 12 Fig. 11 Fig. 13 Cutting the width of a sheet: First mark the line to be cut across the top of the corrugations, overlay with a sheet end to mark out horizontal cuts. We recommend that you use a power jig or a rotary saw to cut the sheet, fitted with a course blade to avoid the teeth being clogged with bitumen residue. If using a hand saw, again ensure it is a course bladed saw and then apply an oil based lubricant frequently to prevent the saw teeth from binding with bitumen residue. 5 Fixing Guide Fig. 14 Fig. 15 Fig. 16 Cutting the length of a sheet: To cut a sheet up the length measure and mark the cut line and then cut or score the base of the nearest corrugation with a Stanley knife, then simply fold the sheet back to separate the two sheet sections. Nail fixing specification The nail fixing pattern will stress the corrugations and form a resilient roof covering able to withstand extremely high wind loadings. First set out the sheets square to the line of the eaves and verge, then first nail the sheet corners (allowing for the sheet laps). This will ensure that the sheet cannot spread during the nailing process and therefore will remain square to the eaves line. Then nail as set out below in Fig. 17. Technical Note Onduline Mini Profile sheets are not classified to External S.AA fire rating as required in UK Building Regulations for some classes of structure. In these cases they must be fixed on a fully supporting roof deck and the sheets coated with a proprietary AA surface paint treatment applied in accordance with the paint manufacturers instructions. Onduline mini profile web indd 6 Condensation Onduline is resistant to the build up of condensation. However any single thickness roofing material is at risk of condensation formation during the winter months. Generally, the installation of high and low level ventilation will reduce this problem. Conditions Of Use Although the colouring process in the manufacture of the Mini Profile sheet is long lasting, as with similar natural roofing materials it is subject to the effects of weathering.
