2 1 Introduction Windows XP Service Pack 2 adds some new security features which potentially change the installation and use of products from Global Graphics. This document describes the additional steps that are required when using the following products on Windows XP SP2 platforms: Using the Harlequin RIP on Windows XP SP2 on page 2. Using JDF Enabler on Windows XP SP2 on page 3. Using SOAR on Windows XP SP2 on page 6. 2 Using the Harlequin RIP on Windows XP SP2 No additional steps are required when installing the Harlequin RIP on Windows XP SP2. However, when you first run the Harlequin RIP, the following prompt will appear: Figure 1 Harlequin RIP Security Alert You should click Unblock and proceed to use the Harlequin RIP as normal. If you click Keep Blocking by mistake or you wish to change your security settings at a later date, you should refer to the details in Viewing and changing security settings on page 8. 2 Commercial in Confidence Technical Note Hqn063: September 2004

3 3 Using JDF Enabler on Windows XP SP2 Note that a prompt also appears when you first run the License Manager: Figure 2 License Manager Security Alert 3 Using JDF Enabler on Windows XP SP2 When installing JDF Enabler on Windows XP SP2, the following prompt appears: Figure 3 SOAR Component Security Alert You should click Unblock and proceed as normal with the installation of JDF Enabler. 4 Note that before you run JDF Enabler, you may need to manually start the Harlequin License Server service (accessed by choosing Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services). For example, the Harlequin License Server may fail to start automatically if you installed JDF Enabler on a system which does have not the required Sentinel dongle drivers. In this case, see the Harlequin License Server Manual for further details. In addition, the first time you run JDF Enabler a prompt will appear for each component, such as the JDF Services, Harlequin RIP and so on. You should click Unblock for each of the programs and proceed to use JDF Enabler as normal. In particular, if you want to unblock or block any JDF Enabler components at a later date, you can check the settings in the Windows Firewall dialog box, accessed through the Control Panel: Figure 4 Exceptions to the Windows Firewall 4 Commercial in Confidence Technical Note Hqn063: September 2004

5 3 Using JDF Enabler on Windows XP SP2 Note that you also need to enable the web server that serves HTML pages to the JDF Enabler Monitor and deals with JMF messages. To do this: 1. Select the Advanced tab in the Windows Firewall dialog box (Figure 4). 2. Click Settings in the Network Connection Settings pane. 3. Select the Web Server (HTTP) check box in the Services tab of the Advanced Settings dialog box that appears, as shown in Figure 5 below. 6 Finally, you will also need to allow popups to be displayed when using the JDF Enabler Monitor. To do this, you should click in the toolbar and choose the Temporarily Allow Pop-ups option from the menu that appears: Figure 6 Allowing display of popups in JDF Enabler Monitor 4 Using SOAR on Windows XP SP2 When installing the SOAR SDK on Windows XP SP2, the following prompt appears: Figure 7 SOAR SDK Security Alert You should click Unblock and proceed as normal with the installation of the SOAR SDK. 6 Commercial in Confidence Technical Note Hqn063: September 2004

7 4 Using SOAR on Windows XP SP2 The first time you run SOAR components, such as the Core Services, the SOAR Monitor tool, example programs, and so on, a prompt will appear for each program. You should click Unblock for each of the programs and proceed to use the SOAR SDK as normal. In particular, if you want to unblock or block any SOAR components at a later date, you should refer to the details in Viewing and changing security settings on page Viewing the SOAR SDK HTML documentation Note that when viewing the HTML documentation supplied with the SOAR SDK in a browser such as Internet Explorer, the display of active content may be automatically restricted and the following prompt displayed: In this case the Index and Search panes continue to work, but you must choose keywords from HTML lists rather than entering a keyword to search for. In addition, popups may not work. You should click on the toolbar and choose Allow Blocked Content from the menu that appears to allow full use of the HTML documentation. 8 5 Viewing and changing security settings If you want to view or change your security settings, you should open the Windows Firewall dialog box, which is accessed through the Control Panel: Figure 8 Exceptions to the Windows Firewall You can block or unblock programs by unselecting or selecting the appropriate check box.
