2 Carter s Educational Foundation The Trustees of Carter s Educational Foundation may pay discretionary grants this year to persons under the age of 25 years living (or having a parent living) in the ancient Parish of Wilford. These educational grants may be used to assist with for example school trips, uniform, music lessons, sporting activities etc. The ancient Parish of Wilford in broad terms includes: Wilford Village, Silverdale, Compton Acres, part of West Bridgford (mainly west of Loughborough Road) and some of the southern parts of the Meadows. Please see website for further information Heymann May Fair: Sunday 10th May am-2pm, Waddington Drive It s that time of year again! A fun filled few hours with your friends and family. There will be bouncy castles, games, sweets, a yummy BBQ and lots of fun things to do WHATEVER THE WEATHER! Watch out for Parent Mails with more information. *Please send quality donations of Bric a brac into school *Any donations of cakes for the very popular cake stall welcome on the day *We have some fabulous raffle prizes, but we will also be doing our "Heymann Hamper" prizes. 4 IN-SERVICE TRAINING DAYS FOR THIS ACADMIC YEAR: 22nd May rd July 2015 World Book Day was a very successful day. Both staff and children looked fantastic in their various costumes based on different book characters. The children have loved looking at the photographs on the Get Caught Reading Display. There are some inspired places where children chose to read. We had children reading in the bath, on the toilet and even in a swimming pool! Many thanks to everyone who supported the book fair. It raised over 1200 which results in our school receiving 60% commission from the company. This will lead to more books being purchased for school which we hope will inspire the children to keep on reading! Thank you again for all your support with this. We do appreciate all the effort and time it takes to make costumes, take photos and visit the book fair. Together, we are definitely working towards developing a positive reading culture for the children at Heymann Primary School. School holidays for can be found on the school office page/ documents of our school website. We visited the scary caves and heard some terrifying tales! We had a go at creating our own masterpieces. We worked really hard to use some of the sketching techniques we had learnt. Before getting soaked on the way home!!! Page 4 Page 9

5 Year 2 Trip to Nottingham Castle Governor Update Welcome back to the Summer Term! As part of our Dungeons and Dragons topic year 2 went on a trip to Nottingham Castle. Free School Meals In the last edition of the school newsletter information was provided in relation to free school meals (FSM). The governing body would encourage all parents/carers who have not yet, but believe they may be eligible, to register by contacting the free school meals team on or visiting Parent View Parent View is an online questionnaire which gives parents and carers the opportunity to provide their feedback to the school about Heymann Primary and Nursery. Parent View asks for your opinion on 12 aspects of your child s school, from the quality of teaching, to dealing with poor behaviour. Every parent s views are important and Governors would appreciate as many parents and carers as possible completing the short questionnaire in order to provide feedback to both ourselves and the school leaders. The process is very straightforward and should take no longer than 10 minutes. Once we have received sufficient responses results will be published via graphs which can be accessed by parents, prospective parents and Ofsted during a school inspection. 6 DON T LEAVE YOUR SATs PREPARATION TOO LATE! Each May, children in Year 2 and Year 6 will sit Maths and English SATs exams. All children in year 6 sit the level 3-5 SATs papers, if your child is ahead they can have the opportunity to sit the additional level 6 paper. YEAR 5 STUDENTS START NOW YOU COULD GET A LEVEL 6! We offer a free assessment in Maths and English and are very experienced in gauging the potential of a child. We have taken many students from 2-3 years behind to a level 6. Nationally only ~4% of students get a level 6 for Maths in state schools. A LEVEL 6 WILL PUT YOUR CHILD IN A SET 1 OR 2 AT WEST BRIDGFORD SCHOOL. Take action now: call Sam Williams on Page 6 Page 7
