Students can wear Crazy Hair Day Wednesday: Sock it to Drugs & Bullying Students can wear Crazy Socks Thursday: I Elect to Be Drug Free Students can wear Red, White and Blue Friday: I m Too Bright for Drugs & Bullying Students can wear Neon, Silver, Glittery or Reflective Colors Crete-Monee Middle School Parent-Teacher Conferences Dates & Times: Wednesday, November 9th from 6-9pm Thursday, November 10th from 1-5pm AND 6-9pm Teachers will be centrally located by team in the CMMS gymnasium. Conferences will be held with teachers on a first come - first served basis. It is highly recommended that parents with multiple students at the middle school call their children's team to set up a scheduled meeting time. Please understand, due to time constraints, teachers will limit individual conferences to ten (10) minutes per student. What to expect: You will be able to pick up your child s report card. There will be a seating chart located at the entrance of the gym. Once you locate your child s teachers, it is recommended that you visit the teacher with the least amount of parents waiting first. Counselors and members of our Administrative Team will be present to assist you with any additional questions about your child s progress. Our PTO will host its annual Scholastic Book Fair and Trees Around the District fundraisers. Please be sure to stop by both venues and assist us in raising funds for our students. **Important News** MEDICAL COMPLIANCE The State of Illinois requires health examinations for children attending any public, private, or parochial school. If a child is not found to be in compliance by October 17, within the requirements of the law, then the local school authority shall exclude that child from school until such time that the child presents proof of having had the examination (Illinois School Code 105 ILCS 5/ from Ch. 122, par ). Excluding children from school is a serious matter. The 201u Health Services department has follow-up with parents/ guardians of students who are not in compliance via phone calls, letters, list of area resources for clinics, free immunizations offered during summer registration (as available), and ultimately, exclusion from attending school as the law mandates. We urge you to immediately contact the school nurse, Katie Lareau, R.N. (708) or District Coordinator of Health Services, Debbie Callicoat (708) for assistance with the state mandated health exam and immunization requirement. 2 Check for Success! Our PBIS team helps students remember expectations by creating a little bit of friendly team competition. Our current challenge is the Check for Success! Students earn points in advisory for having their planners, ids, and materials for the morning. The team with the most points wins the challenge, and reinforces some good habits. Did your student lose his/her planner? No problem students do not need an official CMMS planner. Planners are available at most stores that have school supplies, even online. Remind students that middle school is an important time to learn organizational habits for life. Writing things down to remember them later is an essential skill for success in the future. Design Tech A new experience at CMMS for students As part of Crete-Monee Middle School s move to foster deeper, more critically thinking students, we have added a new class to CMMS called Design Tech. Students will be following a curriculum from Project Lead the Way. The program aims to engage students in activities that not only build knowledge and skills in areas including computer science, engineering, and biomedical science, but also empower students to develop essential skills such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and perseverance. This year, all students will work on the Design and Modeling module. In that module, students discover the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They are then challenged and empowered to use and apply what they ve learned throughout the unit to design a therapeutic toy for a child who has cerebral palsy. For more information, check out: International Baccalaureate (IB) October Learner Profile Trait: Inquirers Through lessons in Advisory, students are learning about the IB Learner Profile. The aim of the IB program and the traits is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world. As INQUIRERS we nurture our curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. We know how to learn independently and with others. We learn with enthusiasm and sustain our love of learning throughout life. UPCOMING EVENTS: October 14th Picture Day November 9th & 10th Parent-Teacher Conferences REMINDER: CMMS PTO is sponsoring two holiday trees in the Annual Trees Around the District Fundraiser. Monies raised from this event will help the PTO to donate items for the Winter Dance, 8th Grade Dance, Math/Science Night and Humanities Night. A separate flyer is attached with more information. Also, the annual Scholastic Book Fair will be held from November 7th through November 10th. Thank you for your ongoing support of the CMMS PTO!
