All female team members will need to wear their long sleeve team leotard with coordinating black scrunchie(s), team briefs & team sports bra (if needed). Please make sure that all hair is secured up & away from the face for the team photo. If you wear pigtails, please be sure to wear a scrunchie on both sides so that they match. All male team members will need to wear their competitive step-in & black shorts. A formal & informal picture will be taken of the entire Competitive Tumbling Program. Anyone interested in taking individual or buddy photos will be able to do so following the team photos (starting at approximately 8:30 AM). Please remain in the photo area of the gym until your individual and/or buddy pictures are completed. Enjoy some
4 socialization time with the other athletes & their parents while you wait for your individual photo shoot. You may wear whatever Pierce attire that you would like for individual & buddy pictures. You may also include earned trophies & medals. Price lists for team photos & individual packages will be ed to you with this newsletter. Additional forms will be available at the gym on January 14 th if needed. If you intend on ordering any pictures, please make sure to bring a completed order form & payment with you to the photo shoot. 6. Please note that there are NO FEES for team open gyms. Open gym is optional & is a chance for our team athletes to have an additional practice opportunity before heading to competition. Athletes attending open gym are not required to wear their team attire, so you may change out of your team leotard after pictures if you would like. Open Gym will be divided by competition level & will be held during the following times: 9:00-10:00 AM Sub-Beginner, Beginner & Advanced Beginner 9:45-10:45 AM Sub-Novice & Novice 10:30-11:30 AM Intermediate, Sub-Advanced, Advanced & Elite 7. 2 nd Regular Season Meet Sunday, January 15 th Belvidere, IL The 2 nd meet of the Competitive Season is the Gymnastic Academy of Rockford s 2017 Winter Invitational. Please plan to be present for the majority of the day s events. It s a great chance for team members & their families to get to know one another. It s also an educational experience for all the athletes to watch & see what other levels of tumbling are all about. There will also be Trampoline & Double-Mini to watch. It will be a much larger event than the Canton meet. Good luck everyone!! o Location: Belvidere North High School 9393 Beloit Road Belvidere, IL o Schedule: All events will be held on Sunday, January 16 th. There will be a full schedule posted on the team board outside the gym detailing competition times for our Pierce Athletics Tumbling Team athletes once it is received. o Admission: $5.00 Adults $4.00 Seniors 65+ & Children under 12 FREE 3 & Under o Meet Layout & Seating: The meet will be held in the main gym. Bleacher seating is available. Try to stick together as much as possible to offer a stronger support section for our Pierce tumblers. We would love to hear you support the team! o Awards: Awards will be handed out in the awards area 10 minutes after the results have been posted. All athletes that place 1 st -3 rd will receive a trophy & all
5 athletes that place 4 th on will receive a medal. The USTA rules state that all athletes must be in competition attire to receive their awards. Please be sure to let Angela, Aleisha & Grace know how you place. You did a GREAT job of this at the Canton Meet. Unfortunately, our coaching schedule doesn t allow us to be in the awards area very often, so it s great to know how you do before the end of the meet when we collect the scores. 8. Upcoming Tumbling Stuff If you haven t done so already, please make sure to sign up for the Tumbling Team mass text program. It allows us to get messages out to everyone quickly & easily. With events coming up & the winter season upon us, I want to make sure that I can reach everyone when I need to. Thanks! Other Information: 1. If you are unaware... Jayden Pierce is a 9-year brain cancer survivor. He had his annual MRI & appointments with the Brain Tumor Clinic at Children s Hospital of Wisconsin on Wednesday, December 14 th. We were thrilled to receive NED results that means that there is no evidence of disease in his brain. However, due to Jayden having occasional back pain this past year & his cancer (Ependymoma) being a Central Nervous System cancer they decided to do another MRI of his spine. In addition, they discovered a small mass on his cheek that they wanted to look at via an ultrasound. We are waiting for the results on those tests to be received. Hopefully we will hear from the hospital this weekend. He is currently 9-years post-treatment, which is incredible with his cancer type so we are very fortunate! Thank you for all of your love, prayers & support of Jayden, our family & our efforts in creating childhood cancer awareness! We truly love & appreciate our Pierce Athletics family!! 2. Utilize the time that we have off over the holidays to spend valuable time with friends & family. That is SO important! Use this time to get some rest as our competition schedule gets more demanding after the 1 st of the year. I hope that everyone truly has a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!! 3. Competition Reminders: Team members need to wear competition attire to all privates & classes throughout the week of the meet. This means wearing a competitive team leotard (new or old & sleeveless or long sleeved) with appropriate undergarments & no shorts for females. This means a step-in & shorts for males. I would recommend styling their hair competition style as well. For the duration of the season (now thru Nationals) all athletes will compete in age groups per their age as of 12/31/16. Please refrain from using flash photography during competition. All Sub-Beginner, Beginner & Advanced Beginner passes should be continuous, rotational movement without hesitation or intermediate steps. All Sub-Novice, Novice, Intermediate, Sub-Advanced, Advanced & Elite passes should be continuous, speedy,
6 rhythmic hands to feet & feet to hands movement without hesitation or taking intermediate steps. All team members need to be present, dressed & ready for competition 1 hour prior to their scheduled time. Females should be in competition attire long sleeved competition leotard, team briefs, team bra (if needed) & coordinating black scrunchie(s). Males should wear their competition attire competition step-in, black shorts & coordinating underwear. All athletes can be called to the stretching area up to 45 minutes prior to their scheduled time. Each division, age group & flight will be announced when it s time to report to the stretching area. Please check the program & listen carefully to the announcements throughout the day. Athletes should report to stretch in competition attire without any additional items or possessions. Once in the stretching area, each athlete will need to check-in with the registration person/table to get their competition number & stretch. One of the Pierce coaches will stretch with them if our schedule allows. Remember: o there are no parents allowed in the stretching area o there is NO tumbling allowed in the stretching area just stretching o NO athlete should do any warm-up passes without a Pierce coach present We will record all of our athletes scores & placements so that they can be posted at the gym when we get home. Please assist all Pierce athletes & spectators in displaying good sportsmanship. Remember that the first 4 regular meets of the season are all just practice for the State Meet. We re looking for progression & judges feedback on the skills we have ready for competition more than we re looking for placement. Derogatory comments about the judging, scores, athletes, or placements have a negative influence on our team members. It also has a negative impact on Pierce Athletics. 4. Rod Floor Achievement Challenge: The coaches are setting up a challenge that will be conducted with all the Rod Floor classes from January 2 nd until March 2 nd. Here s what we have going on: o All athletes who tumble on the rod floor will be eligible to earn stickers for impressive class performance, meaning: good work ethic, positive attitude, good use of practice time, exceptional skill performance, setting a good example, good team player/sportsmanship, etc. It simulates our Team Member of the Week award that we have for the Cheer Teams, but it is able to be awarded every day in every class. The athletes will also be awarded a sticker for every WOW! class or moment that they have. o At the conclusion of the challenge, we will be awarding a Pierce Athletics Buck (funny money) to every athlete that has earned at least 5 stickers. The athletes can use these at anytime toward a purchase in the office. The athlete with the most stickers will also receive a FREE leotard from the office.
