4 Requirements Good academic standing One semester completed at Xavier Programs for all majors are available No second language is required!

5 Who Can Go Abroad? All Xavier students in good standing are eligible to study abroad. Check with your advisor if you will be graduating soon! International students are eligible to study abroad.

7 Xavier Sponsored Programs These programs are coordinated by another US institution or organization that provide extensive service and support during your study abroad experience. Many programs are offered through other Jesuit schools providing a great academic fit.

9 Direct Exchange Programs These programs allow students to study at a foreign university with which Xavier has a special agreement. Often times students from these universities will study at Xavier for a semester, while you study there!

11 USAC Programs The University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) is a non-profit consortium of 33 universities, and Xavier is one of these affiliate universities. Through USAC, Xavier students can participate in their specialty or partner programs. Program locations are world-wide, and some programs offer internships and service learning opportunities.

13 Solidarity Semester: Nicaragua Xavier s Solidarity Semester in Nicaragua combines at least 15 credit hours of academic study with reflection, and work in local, community organizations. A primary goals of the semester is the integration of academic study with the experience of service and accompaniment. Students combine knowledge of the culture, religion, history, government, and economics of the region, with an emphasis on issues of social justice. Engagement with the local community provides students with the opportunity to study in the context of living and working with the economically poor.

14 Faculty-led Programs Faculty-led programs offer the opportunity to study abroad with a Xavier faculty member. Students typically earn 3 to 9 credit hours, and the programs run during summer, spring, and winter breaks. Program duration is anywhere between 10-days and six-weeks long.

16 FYS: International Study Program The First-Year Seminar is an opportunity for each new student to Xavier to work closely with faculty to explore important and challenging issues, with a focus on the Greater Good. Since Spring 2016, Xavier has offered a FYS international course. As part of a semester-long course, students will have the opportunity for an immersive experience to another country over Spring Break that coincides with the course. In 2016 and 2017, the FYS: International Study Program went to Italy to explore the Slow Food Movement.

17 Earning Credit You will receive credit for study abroad at Xavier Major, minor, core, elective, or even extra free electives Your academic advisor will work with you to determine how classes taken abroad count for your degree plan You must be full-time, which means you earn a full semester of credits for Fall or Spring programs Summer programs do not require full-time enrollment

18 Funding All of Xavier University s semester programs are offered to students at the same rate as what they would pay for a semester at Xavier. This means that students are billed tuition and fees like any other semester at Xavier, and Xavier scholarships, Federal aid, and outside scholarships apply to semester-long abroad experience. 19 Gilman Scholarship A national scholarship promoting diversity in study abroad You may be awarded up to $5,000 for study abroad Eligibility: receive a Pell Grant and program is at least a month long; U.S. citizen Application is online, and XU study abroad staff will assist you!

24 Steps to Study Abroad Complete this online information session Complete intake form at end of session to request an appointment with an advisor Log-in to Studio Abroad to research programs Use your XU username and password to log-in (you do not need to create an account) Meet with CIE staff to narrow your program selection Consult academic advisor regarding credit and course approvals Apply to the program Xavier application via StudioAbroad Program-specific application via program Attend Pre-Departure Orientation
