2 No Child Left Behind and Adequate Yearly Progress AYP is the calculation the State uses to report whether or not districts meet the regulations of NCLB For , students in every subgroup must have demonstrated at least a 70% proficiency level on state tests In , that number increases to 77.5% By , 100% of all students will reach high standards, attaining proficiency (AYP) in reading and mathematics

5 Riddle and Williams Elementary Schools Points of Interest: Students scores in grades 3, 4, and 5 are above State average Reading and Math scores are above State average Made AYP in all areas except students with disabilities in Reading 90.7% of students met and exceeded on the ISAT in Science compared to that of the State at 77% Economically disadvantaged students scored higher than the State Reading: 10.1% higher Math: 3.5% higher
6 Riddle and Williams Elementary Schools Improvement Goals: Utilizing specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound (SMART) goals to focus improvement Demonstrating improvement by meeting/increasing SMART goal target percentages Begin teacher teaming in subject areas of expertise Expanding instructional focus to grades 3, 4, and 5 by utilizing teachers and paraprofessionals creatively to improve Reading and Math skills Continuing to use data to review and analyze student achievement
7 Riddle and Williams Elementary Schools Specific Steps: Identifying areas of improvement through the use of data 1. Reviewing screening assessments three times per year 2. Studying skill deficits to focus instruction Monthly grade level and departmental meeting times will be used to review data and problem solve collectively in professional learning communities Implementing Response to Intervention (RtI) to monitor student progress frequently and determine targeted areas Training staff with experienced teachers providing systemic training to new and newly assigned staff in Reading, Math, and Writing
8 Points of Interest : Mattoon Middle School Students scores in grades 6, 7, and 8 were above State average Females at MMS achieved higher in every tested category except one Made AYP in all areas except students with disabilities in Reading and Math Economically disadvantaged students were 10% higher than the State average for Writing 87.2% of students met and exceeded on the ISAT in Science compared to 79.5% of the State average
9 Improvement Goals: Mattoon Middle School Use a variety of data set to identify intervention groups of students Teachers are inter team teaching to ensure that every student in a given grade level is receiving the highest quality instruction SMART goals within subject areas, teams, and administration by using data to progress monitor effectiveness of the goal Grades and subject area staff are establishing quarterly desired outcomes and common assessment instruments Continue to provide professional development opportunities for staff in Reading and Math
10 Specific Steps: Mattoon Middle School Wednesday Wildcat Workshops are designed to share the knowledge teachers are gaining from professional development opportunities to enhance instruction Team Leadership meetings are designed to provide the building leaders with information to perform team building activities Continue efforts with HOPE and PLC with the implementation of SMART goals, inter team planning and instruction, and compile data to implement appropriate interventions for students
11 Points of Interest : Mattoon High School The attendance rate has risen in the last nine years The truancy rate is at a ten year low Missed AYP in Reading and Math Monitoring student grades every 3 weeks ensuring progress in achievement Implementation of a new discipline system enables staff to frequently monitor student behavior (PBIS; ISBE endorsed) Increasing ability for early identification of students who are not college ready in the core subjects
12 Improvement Goals: Mattoon High School Developing common assessments for every chapter/unit of each course Analyzing data from common assessments in preparation for discussion of successful instructional strategies Offering opportunities for re teaching to occur using effective strategies Providing students with the time and support they need to be successful in the tutorial program Implement "check and connect" for students with attendance problems and group counseling for students with behavioral and emotional problems
13 Specific Steps: Mattoon High School Students are charting their own progress on the EXPLORE/PLAN/ACT tests to determine their own strengths and weaknesses Counselors assist students to determine coursework necessary to improve college readiness skills All teachers are tutoring students after school in grade level tutoring centers All teachers will participate in professional development training by Dr. Mark Forget focusing on techniques of engaging students in reading and writing in all curricular areas Math teachers will experience extensive training with Dr. Claran Einfeldt, math expert, to engage students in math classrooms
