The Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) is administered to students in grades,, 5, 7, and 8. The Prairie Achievement Examination (PSAE) is administered to students in grade. The Illinois Measure of Annual Growth in English (IMAGE) is administered to students in state-approved transitional bilingual programs. The Illinois Alternate Assessment (IAA) is administered to students with disabilities whose Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) indicate that participation in the ISAT or PSAE would not be appropriate. Students with disabilities have an IEP (No Child Left Behind Act). These levels were established with the help of Illinois educators who teach the grade levels and learning areas tested. 11 Mascoutah Elementary teachers have analyzed the Illinois Standards Achievement Test, the California Achievement Test, and Local Assessments. The results indicate that students are making adequate yearly progress, and in many cases, far surpassing state expectations. MES has an average of 8% of its students achieving in the meets or exceeds category in third and fifth grade reading. In Math at the third and fifth grade level, 86% of the students met or exceeded the state standards. Fourth grade students met or exceeded the state standards in social science at 9% and in science the students scored 87%. scores in third and fifth grade for the meets and exceeds group averaged 7%. Mascoutah Elementary has committed to seek accreditation with the North Central Association and Commission on Accreditation and Improvement. The faculty at Mascoutah Elementary identified two goals for improvement. Those goals are as follows: All students will demonstrate improvement in the application of reading comprehension across the curriculum. All students will demonstrate improvement in the application of written communication skills across the curriculum. In order to improve in these areas, strategies will be implemented in the areas of reading and writing. Comprehension Improvement Strategies: LiPS instruction for Grades,, and After school reading program and tutoring Counts Program -Blocks Instruction A-Z Parent Nights for K and st Teacher training on effective instruction in reading Offering Jumpstart Summer to students Improvement Strategies: will be required across all subject areas -Blocks Instruction Continuing the Young Authors Program Implementation of writing curriculum that has been aligned to the Illinois Standards. Mascoutah Elementary considers character education to be very important to the overall development of the students. Monthly activities centered on a Word of the Month are planned school wide. Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies will be implemented school wide to promote positive behavior. An area of focus for Mascoutah Elementary is for students with Individual Education Plans or 5 Plans. In order to promote educational success to these students, Mascoutah Elementary will provide an extended day program, program changes, and additional practice for extended response questions in math and reading.
