3 About AGPS A02 AGPS stands for Assisted Global Positioning System. As the term describes, AGPS s main function is to assist traditional GPS so its receiver can operate more quickly and efficiently than unassisted ones. Basically, AGPS offers both offline and online solutions; the main difference is the transmission protocol type. Off-line solution: Users have to acquire the latest aiding database from AGPS server through internet (Network, TCP /IP), Wi-Fi, or other methods in order to upgrade the database of GPS receiver. AGPS Off-line solution On-line solution: Users can get the latest aiding data from AGPS server by GSM or GPRS, but this type of services usually requires the user to pay a fee for data transmission, and this fee will be based on data size or transmission time. AGPS data are available from AGPS server through internet or GSM/GPRS and they will be downloaded into GPS receiver. When you use your GPS receiver with the AGPS function, the GPS receiver will be able to start working right away; the receiver doesn t need to wait for the GPS data from satellites. This will reduce TTFF (time-to-first-fix) time because the prediction for orbit data of satellites are already partially known. AGPS is also helpful when one is doing positioning in a GPS signal weakness zone, as the GPS receiver will refer to AGPS database

4 to perform positioning. Gtop supplies the off-line solution services and AGPS data will expire in 7 days if the accompanied GPS is not being used. If GPS receiver is being used daily, GPS data can also be downloaded from GPS satellites. How to use AGPS function In order to use the AGPS function, you have to download the AGPS data form our AGPS server, please follow these step by step instructions to update your database, all procedures are listed below I. Install the USB driver (if the device is USB I/F for data input/output) II. Install the AGPS application tool in your PC III. Download AGPS database into your GPS device Before you use, please make sure: 1. The GPS device support AGPS function 2. Please connect your GPS device and PC by USB I/F or Com port I/F 3. The computer which you use for database download is connected by internet.

5 Step I: Install the USB driver (Option ) Please execute the InstallDriver.exe to install USB driver of GPS device Note: different GPS devices have different USB driver, so the USB driver installation method will be different. Note : some GPS receivers use PS2 or Com port interface directly, you don t need to install driver again.

6 Please click on Continue Anyway button. Installation is finished, please click Exit button.

7 If your device is connected with PC, you can also check the connection. Please find the connection status in my computer/properties/hardware/device Manager.

9 Step II: Install the AGPS application tool in your PC Please find the AGPS application tool in your CD or choose the AGPS tool setup in the installation page of CD. Note: Please remove the old version in your computer before you will install a new version. Please execute Setup to install the tool.

12 The installation is finished, please click on Close button. The AGPS icon will be placed on the desktop.

13 Step III: Download AGPS database into your GPS device The AGPS tool has three function pages: 1. AGPS page 2. Language page 3. About page AGP page support main function about AGPS function. 1.COM Port: the connection port which GPS device use link the PC. 2.Scan: Auto scans the connection port 3.Baud rate: data transmission rate between PC and GPS device. Users must set the baud rate manually based on the setting of GPS device (user can find the setting in the user manual) 4.Download : Download AGPS data (EPO data) from server [ the button will be enable after connection ] 5. Exit: exit the AGPS tool. PS: EPO: Extended Prediction Orbit

14 Language page support multi-language function, we support English, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, and Italy, please choose what language you need The UI will change the description by chosen language. The default is English. Germany page About page only show the company information and the revision no. of the tool.

15 How to download the AGPS data into device: A02 Before you use, please make sure: 1. The GPS device support AGPS function 2. Please connect your GPS device and PC by USB I/F or Com port I/F 3. The computer which you use for database download is connected by internet. 1. Please set the baud rate first and click the Scan button 2. The COM port is COM 4 *ps, please click on Download button and Yes to download the AGPS database. PS: The COM port is assigned by your pc system, so it is different on different PC.

16 If the AGPS database download is no problem from AGPS server, the Message window will pop up, and then please click the OK button for next step. 3. Start to write AGPS data to the device please wait and don t disconnect device in the mean time.

17 If the AGPS database writing is no problem in the mean time, the Message window will pop up, and then please click the OK button for finish the process. The AGPS database which expires every 7 days, so you need to update it every 7 days.
