1 Installing the OKI MCx61MFP USB Attached, in Windows 8 Preface Note: The following instruction uses screenshots of either the OKI MC561MFP for illustration purposes. However, these instructions apply to both the OKI MC361MFP and the OKI MC561MFP The Windows 8 operating systems, by design, have Class drivers built into the OS. This is Microsoft s method of reducing the footprint of the Windows 8 operating systems. Further, Windows 8 functionality is such that when a device is connected via Plug N Play, Windows 8 will automatically associate one of these built-in Class drivers with the connected device. In the case of the OKI MCx61MFP device, Windows 8 will automatically associate and install the OKI PCL6 Class driver with the device. This is the normal operation of Windows 8 and it works fine for single-function devices, but can present issues to users of Multi-Function devices, under Windows 8. Therefore, under Windows 8, if you plan on installing your OKI MCx61MFP, USB attached, it is our recommendation that users install the OKI MCx61MFP software, first, before connecting the device to the Windows 8 PC. The OKI MCx61MFP installer will prompt the user to connect the OKI MCx61MFP at the appropriate time. If you have already connected your OKI MCx61MFP, USB attached, to your Windows 8 machine, please follow the steps below, to re-configure your OKI MCx61MFP installation. If you have not USB connected your OKI MCx61MFP as yet, insert and install the OKI MCx61MFP software according to the instructions given in the Quick Setup guide. Rev. 1.0 Page 1 of 8

2 Installing the OKI MCx61MFP, USB Attached, under Windows 8 Figures 1, 2 and 3 show the dialogs that display when the OKI MCx61MFP is USB attached to any Windows 8 machine prior to installing the OKI software. As mentioned above, Windows 8 will automatically associate and install the OKI PCL6 Class driver with the device. Figure 1 Figure 2 Figure 3 Rev. 1.0 Page 2 of 8

3 At this point, Windows 8 has already installed and associated the OKI PCL6 Class driver with the OKI MCx61MFP device. The user should insert and install the OKI MCx61MFP software as illustrated below. Figure 4 Figure 4 shows the Welcome screen of the OKI MCx61MFP installer Figure 5 Figure 5 shows the MCx61MFP installer installation type screen. For USB installations, the user should select Easy Installation (Local) and click Next Rev. 1.0 Page 3 of 8

4 Figure 6 Figure 6 shows the Local or Network printer selection dialog. For USB installation, the user should select Local printer and click Next Figure 7 Figure 7 shows the Printer Port selection dialog. The user should select FILE: and then click Next. Rev. 1.0 Page 4 of 8

5 Figure 8 Figure 8 shows the Printer model and emulation dialog. For full functionality, the user should select ALL available emulations ( PCL, PS, XPS and FAX ) for installation, as shown above and click Next Figure 9 Figure 9 shows the Printer name dialog. The user should set the preferred default printer driver, and click Next Rev. 1.0 Page 5 of 8

6 Figure 10 Figure 10 shows the OKI MC561MFP installer as the selected components are being installed. Figure 11 Figure 11 shows the OKI MCx61MFP installer as the selected components have been successfully installed. At this point, the user should click Finish and then Exit to close the installer Rev. 1.0 Page 6 of 8

In the next step the user needs to change the PORT from File to the same USB Port as was created by Windows 8 when the OKI PCL6 Class driver was installed, as is seen Figure 13 Figure 13 Figure 13 shows the OKI PCL6 Class driver installed on USB Port USB001. Also, seen are the OKI MC561(FAX), OKI MC561(PCL) and the others that are installed on Port = FILE: These need to be moved manually as we illustrate in the steps given below Rev. 1.0 Page 7 of 8

8 The default was FILE: now change it to the USB Port that was created the first time the printer was connected as is shown above. Be sure to Click the Apply button and then click OK. Now, these same steps needs to be taken for the PS, PCL XPS and FAX drivers until the Devices and Printers dialog looks like what is shown below: Rev. 1.0 Page 8 of 8
