3 This guide will take you through the steps necessary to install and configure the back-end server for 3G monitoring of the SVC420GPS and SVC820GPS units. Pre-requisites Before you begin you will need the following: An SVC420GPS/SVC820GPS unit A monitor attached to the SVC420GPS/SVC820GPS unit The remote control for the SVC420GPS/SVC820GPS unit A standard size 3G SIM card* A dedicated PC/server** *A standard contract SIM card can be used provided it is aimed more towards data allowance. It is advised to use a more specialist service such as an M2M contract. **This PC/server will need to be online 24/7, or at least online during the hours of operation for the units. The minimum hardware specification is listed below: Intel Quad-Core or higher 4GB RAM or higher 1TB Hard drive or higher Windows 7 / Windows Server 2003 or Higher Server Installation First you will need to download the latest server software, this can be obtained from the support section of or Once you have downloaded the server installation file you can run it and follow the on screen commands to get it installed, you will just need to press Next on each screen. 3

5 Once the software is installed you will then need to follow some final steps to finish the configuration of the database. First click Next on the screen below: If you require WiFi downloading you can configure it through the second page, shown below. You can leave the default information in there and come back to it at a later stage for now, alternatively, if you are not going to use it you can disable it by un-ticking the Enable WiFi Automatically Download checkbox. 5

6 The next step will be to select the port that you will use for the web interface. You will be given options for 80, 88, 8080 and You can select any of these provided they are not in use already by other software or hardware on your network. The final step is to click on Finish to finalise the process and start the server. 6

7 Once this has completed the server software will load up, a browser window with the web login will also load. You will also have a readme.txt document open up which will contain information on your server such as login details and port numbers. The port numbers listed will need to be port forwarded in your router. If you require more information on setting up port forwarding on your router please see our networking guide in the support section of our website at By default the following ports will need to be opened: 6601 to 6612 and the web port that was selected on the previous page (i.e. 80, 8080, 8088 or 88). Once you have the above ports opened correctly, ensure that the Server Manager window is still open, if it is not you will just need to double click on the CMS Server icon on your desktop. You will then be able to see the list of server modules running (i.e. login server and gateway server). Ensure that all of these display as Running in the information window next to them. If these are all running correctly then you can proceed with the next step to set up the server software. If any services are not running simply click on them to highlight them and then click on the Start Service button. 7

8 Server Configuration Once the server software has been installed the next step is to configure the server and add devices. First, open up a web browser and enter the IP address of the server. If you are on the same network as the server you can simply enter Please note that if you are using a web port of anything other than 80 then you will need to enter the port on the end of this. So for example Enter the admin username and password, by default these are admin for both. You will also need to enter a confirmation code. Once done press Login. You will then be presented with the Home screen for the server. From here you can control certain aspects of the server. 8

9 Add a Client From the Home screen select Client from the top tab. You can then use the options here to create a client. A client is essentially a group that you can assign SVC MDVR units to. If you have multiple clients or multiple sites you can create these groups here and then assign certain SVC MDVR units to each. To create a client simple click Add from the Client Management section You can then add in the client details; the Account field is the username for this client. So for the example below the username would be client and the password would be

10 Add a Device Once you have created a client you will then need to add an SVC MDVR and assign it to the client. You will need to give each device a unique 5 digit device number. This is required to add a device to the server and needs to be different for every unit. So for example, if you have 10 devices you would give the first the device number of 00001, the second as 00002, the third as and so on. From the server Home screen select the Device button from the top tab. You can then click on Add to begin adding a unit. You can then enter in the details for the unit, including the 5 digit unique device number into IDNO. Ensure that you make a note of the device number you are using as you will need enter this number into the SVC MDVR unit after these steps. 10

11 Once entered the unit will then appear in the Device List. The final step is to assign this to a client. You can do this by clicking on Customer under Operator. You can then select the desired client from the top drop down menu and then click on Save. 11

12 Unit Setup The following steps will need to be performed on the SVC MDVR unit. To do this you will need to ensure that you have the remote control and a monitor connected to the device. For more information on any of the settings covered please refer to the units manual, available on the CD provided with the unit or alternatively it can be downloaded from the support section of our website at or Device Number First you will need to enter the main menu of the SVC MDVR unit by pressing Login on the remote control and entering the password for the unit ( by default). Next enter the General menu. Then from here enter the Vehicle Info menu. 12

13 To assign the unique 5 digit device number simple select Dev-Num from this page and enter the device number that you entered into the server in the previous steps. Once done select the Save button to save these settings. APN In order for the SVC MDVR unit to communicate with the server over the internet you will need have a 3G SIM card inserted into the unit. For details instructions on this please see refer to the units manual. The unit will then need to have some settings configured to allow it communicate with the network provider and provide internet access. To enter these settings go to the main menu on the device and select Peripherals. 13

14 Then select Wireless Setup to access the 3G Setup menu. From this menu you will need to enter the SIM cards APN details. If you do not know these settings you will need to contact the SIM cards network provider or your system administrator. Wireless: This will need to be set to ON for the 3G SIM card to be used Type: In most applications this will need to be set to WCDMA, however some SIM cards may use other protocols. You will need to confirm this with your network provider. APN: This is the Access Point Name, you will need to contact your network provider for these details. Center-Num: Typically this is set to *99# but again, you will need to confirm with your network provider. Username: This is the APN username provided by your network provider. Password: This is the APN password provided by your network provider. 14

15 Server IP Once you have the correct APN details entered the final step is to enter the servers IP address to enable it to communicate with your server. Enter the main menu and select General, then enter the Network menu. Once in the Network Setup settings you can then enter your server IP address into Server Addr and Intercom IP. Please note that this will be your external IP address for the server and not the local IP address. If you do not know your external IP address you can visit to find your address. If you do not have a static IP address with your internet provider you can also use a DDNS address. To enter your host name details into the SVC MDVR you will need to select Domain from the Net Mode drop down menu. You can then enter your host name into the Domain Name section below. 15

16 Checking the Connection Once you have followed the above steps and configured the unit to connect to your server you can then check to see if it has connected and is online. To do this ensure that the vehicle is powered on with the GPS and 3G aerial connected and mounted in a good position that will ensure the best signal. Enter the main menu of the unit and then select System Info. You will see an image similar to that shown below, showing information for various features on the unit. You can use the following details to check your connection: SIM-Card: This will display that the SIM card is correctly inserted and read. If the SIM card is detected it will display EXIST. SIM-sign: This gives a reading of the current 3G signal strength in dbm, the lower the value the better the signal. 3G-State: This will display the current state of the 3G card to show if it is not connected, dialling or connected. If it displays NO DIAL it is not currently connected so you will need to check your signal strength and also your details such as APN details and server IP are correct. Center-L: This displays the status of your connection to the server (center). If you are not connected it will display NO LINK and if you are successfully connected it will display LINK SUCCESS. Please note that some vehicles may have other communications equipment installed that may interfere with the signal, for example telematics units or signal amplifiers. You may need to experiment with aerial positions to ensure the best signal on the vehicle. We suggest mounting externally. 16

17 CMS Application Once you have successfully got a connection to your server you will be able to then install the CMS application to view the live image from the cameras and the GPS location. Install Guide First you will need to install the CMS application, this is can be downloaded from the support section of our website at or Once you have downloaded the file double click it to start the installation procedure. Click Yes on the first screen as shown below and you can then follow through the rest of the installation with the default values, pressing Next on every screen. 17

18 Once the installation has finished the CMS software will load up and the login screen will display, as shown below. You will need to enter the username for the client that you created back on page 9 as well as the password which will be by default. Finally you will need to enter the IP address of your server. Once done click on Login. 18

19 Usage The following information will give you a general guide over the CMS application, for more information on individual features please see the software manual for the unit available in the support section of our website at or Map Once the CMS software is installed and logged in you will see the main display for the CMS software as shown in the image below: On the left hand side you will see your vehicles listed, their icon will be colour coded to display their current status. Black: Offline Red: Online but with errors. Click on the unit for more information on these errors. Green: Online with no errors. The centre screen will display a map and any vehicles that are online with a GPS signal will display on this map. On the right hand side will show a preview window for the live image. You can drag and drop channels from the vehicle list on the left hand side into these windows to display a live image. 19

20 Video You can click on the Video tab at the top of the screen to change to the video view which will show more channels on screen at the same time. Again, you can drag and drop cameras from multiple vehicles to view several unit at the same time. You can change the screen layout using the buttons at the top of the page and display up to 16 channels at the same time. Track If you click Track at the top of the screen you will then be taken to the tracking page. From here you can select a vehicle, date and time range and then view the GPS tracking information from that vehicle to show its location and route over that particular time. 20

21 Record If you click on the Record tab you will be taken to the playback screen. This page will allow you to select a vehicle and then view footage directly from the following locations: Vehicle Device: This will playback footage directly from the units hard drive over 3G. Local Disk: If you have left the CMS software running with video images displaying they will have recorded to your computers hard drive, this will play back from those files. For more information on enabling or disabling this feature please see the software manual. Storage Server: You can configure the server to record footage from the live image, this will be done on the server side and not require the CMS application to be running. Please see the software manual for more information on the storage server. Download Server: If you have configured a Wifi download server this will play back footage from the server. Please see the software manual for more information on this. Installation Complete You SVC MDVR server is now configured and ready for use with your SVC MDVR units. You will now be able to use the CMS software to view live images from the cameras, pull back footage directly from the units hard drive and track the unit using the GPS data.
