WELL, THIS IS ANOTHER FINE MESS YOU VE GOTTEN US INTO! THE LENAPE LIVED IN WIGWAMS OR LONGHOUSES MADE FROM TREE BARK. THE LENNI LENAPE MEN WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR BUILDING THEIR PLACES TO LIVE. WIGWAMS WERE ROUND, HAD NO WINDOWS, AND WERE SMALL. LONGHOUSES WERE MUCH BIGGER (SOMETIMES AS LONG AS 60 FT. AND AS WIDE AS 20 FT.). THESE LONGHOUSES WERE MORE RECTANGULAR IN SHAPE AND ALSO HAD NO WINDOWS. SHEETS OF BARK HOLE IN ROOF LETS SMOKE OUT SAPLINGS BENT INTO HOUSE FRAMES BUILDING A WIGWAM OR LONGHOUSE WAS VERY HARD WORK THERE WERE NO NAILS OR HAMMERS. BARK SHINGLES WERE TIED WITH THIN FLEXIBLE STRIPS OF WOOD TO THE THICK WOODEN FRAME. A SMALL HOLE WOULD BE MADE IN THE ROOF TO PROVIDE AN EXIT FOR SMOKE FROM THE FIRES BUILT FOR COOKING AND WARMTH DURING THE WINTER.
