1 Parents Newsletter December 2016 End of Term It s that time again where we are approaching the end of the year. This means saying goodbye to 2016 as we welcome At the nursery, we have various fun activities planned to celebrate Christmas, this includes a Christmas party for children and parents, an upcoming Santa visit and a festive jumper day. If you are getting into the festive spirit at home, please send us pictures and videos via EyLog. We enjoy viewing what you and your children have been up to. Coffee Mornings Our nursery practitioners are currently preparing all end of term summative reports for the children. Please book your coffee mornings at reception for the opportunity to speak to your child s key worker. This gives you the chance to hear about what your child has been learning about this term, how they have progressed and their next development steps. GNG nursery is here to start your child s educational journey as they progress into further education. Workshop Our Let s Get Creative workshop was a great turn out and we would like to thank all of our parents for coming. Please look out for any notices, advertising any upcoming workshop or nursery events. If you would like to attend any workshops or have any suggestions for any future get-togethers, please let reception know. Sandwell Council Nursery Awards 2016 GNG Nursery is proud to announce that we are the winners of the 2016 Day Nursery Awards. Thank you to everyone who provided a testimony towards our nomination. Since our opening in 2013, we have won this award twice. This demonstrates how hard our staff work to provide the best childcare service in Sandwell. Outdoor Play As the weather becomes colder, we would like to remind all parents/carers that the children will still be commencing with outdoor play. It is an OFSTED requirement for children to experience play in all types of weather. We understand the worry of your child catching a cold, but the children will only be outside for a short period of time, in order for them to get fresh air and develop their outdoor playing skills. Consequently, we ask that all children are provided with efficient, warm outdoor clothing when left at the nursery. Children's Illnesses As we continue through the winter season, we would like to remind parents/carers of our illness policy. If your child has been vomiting or has diarrhoea, they need to stay away from the nursery for 24 hours from the last symptom. If they experience both illnesses at once, this is a 48 hour stay away from the nursery since the last symptom. Please seek medical attention if these symptoms persist. Please call and let the nursery know of any absences.

Sickness If your child has a high temperature we will call you to collect your child as soon as possible. If your child s temperature continues to rise and they have not been collected within a period of time, we will call an ambulance or 111 for assistance. Please note that you must inform us if your child has been unwell so we can ensure they receive the best suited care. eylog We enjoy watching and seeing your children s video and picture observations; please keep sending them! Late Fees We would like to remind all parents that a late fee is applied at a charge of 1 a minute if you are late collecting your child after the agreed time. Mobile phones Please remember that mobile phones are NOT ALLOWED to be used past the point of reception. Thank you for your co-operation.

3 Blossom & Rainbow Room Monthly Overview Babies have enjoyed learning about different cultures, how we are all different, and our ethnic backgrounds. We have made different flags for our topic board, and sang "the top song" to show how unique their clothing and names are. We have also been preparing our winter board, by making a cotton wool Olaf. The babies have been on walks, and explored and collected leaves and pine cones to put on the board, and for fun indoor play too. Robins were decorated with crayons and red felt, and they are now flying high in our bathroom. Babies enjoyed exploring the colours of the month, which were red and blue. We made blue play dough and the babies enjoyed exploring and feeling the texture and used different tools to create different shapes and patterns. We also painted red and blue building blocks and matched the colour of the paint to the blocks. To honour Remembrance Day, we made poppies with the babies, and also attempted a one minute silence, which they were fascinated by. Our babies have been particularly interested in expressing themselves with light wands, by dancing with them and waving them around. We are now looking forward to Christmas, Hanukkah and the New Year, where we have many exciting activities planned for our babies. Sunrise Room Monthly Overview Sunrise children have been very busy this autumn term. We have enjoyed learning about various cultures, festivals and countries. The children have been participating in various creative activities and have been listening to stories linked to different cultural backgrounds. Additionally, the children in sunrise are continuing to learn their numbers and colours through reflecting upon different country s flags. They have been learning to imitate and draw different shapes. During December, we will be busy participating in Christmas activities and having a good festive time at nursery. Preschool Room Monthly Overview Preschool children have been participating in lots of physical activities such as dancing with materials and using scissors to cut out shapes. We have started engaging in Christmas activities i.e. decorating the tree, talking about Santa and singing Christmas songs. Preschool have been exploring the nursery, learning about leaves through focusing on the different colours and textures. This month, preschool have taken particular interest in reading books. They are able to recall stories and teach their friends about the characters in certain books. As Christmas approaches, pre-school will be occupied with the various festive activities that we have planned.

4 Paediatric First Aid for Parents Would you know what to do if a child is choking? How about if a child is unconscious? GNG Nursery has recently invested in getting all staff members who work alongside the children first aid trained. We understand the importance of first aid and the safety of children. We would like to give Parents/Carers the opportunity to take part in completing a 12 hour Paediatric First Aid training course. A small fee ( 25.00) would be taken for the completion of the course. This course will qualify you as a First Aider and you will hold a certificate for three years; but most importantly you will know what to do in case of an emergency. Before a date and time is arranged for the training course, we would like to find out our parents views. If you could please comment with whether you would be interested and time you would be available to do we would be able to find best way to arrange the course for interested parents. Please comment any other ideas/ views as these will indicate if there is anything else parents would find useful. 5 As we approach the winter season, we would like to remind parents of the importance of thorough hand washing. Below is a brief guide detailing the significance of this and a quick step tutorial on how to teach your child how to wash their hands properly.
