4 EU Projects Regional government actions and plans concerning Warsaw Modlin Airport and its surroundings The regional government of Mazovia is conducting an integrated policy intended to increase the region s level of development and make it more visible, accessible and attractive internationally. An area deserving particular attention is the surroundings of Warsaw Modlin Airport. The regional government is planning to implement actions intended to activate the area and aid in its development. 5 EU Projects Warsaw Modlin Airport The port was built on the basis of a former military airport, which functioned in the years On February 8, 2010 the port was entered into the register of civil airports by the Civil Aviation Authority. The construction officially began on October 8, Cruise passenger flights began on July 16, The total net investment cost needed to prepare the airport was about 380 million PLN (c. 92 million EUR), of which approximately 180 million PLN came from EU funds. The Modlin Airport managing company s shareholders are: the Military Property Agency, the Mazovian Region, Polish Airports State Enterprise and the city of Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki. 9 EU Projects Construction of a railway link between Warsaw Modlin Airport terminal and the Warsaw- Gdaosk railway line: in progress A 5.5 kilometer railway line is to connect the airport terminal to the nearest railway station on the E-65 railway line. The link will be built on the basis of a former railway siding. Industrial and Technological Park Airport

10 EU Projects Creating an Industrial and Technological Park around Warsaw Modlin Airport analyses, determining the location and functions The Mazovian Office for Regional Planning in Warsaw has prepared an initial concept of creating an industrial park in the area belonging to the Warsaw Modlin Airport and the Treasury. The aim of the study is to identify areas where the government may initiate the creation of an Industrial and Technological Park. The park would fulfill supporting and supplementary functions to those carried out by the airport in the fields of logistics and transport. Industrial and Technological Park Airport

11 EU Projects Pre-feasibility study for the "Construction of a new railway line between Modlin and Płock" The study was prepared by the IDOM consortium on behalf of the regional government. The study included an analysis of environmental and socio-economic factors, as well as the technical, motor-transport, financial and economic, institutional and legal aspects of constructing a new railway line. The strategy concerning the line and its possible routes were also analyzed. The analysis was accompanied by public consultations in three counties: Płoosk, Płock and Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki. A key decision from the point of view of the line will be the decision to classify it as a line of national importance. The aims of the project are: Improving regional rail transport Providing a stronger link between the northwestern part of Mazovia and Warsaw, Improving access to the airport in Modlin, Improving travel and safety standards, Increasing the level of economic activity in the area. 13 Making use of European experience airled The aim of the project is to develop integrated strategies and plans for future investments in the context of sustainable economic development areas located in the vicinity of airports, in order to provide them with development impulses.

14 Practical action Including appropriate entries in the updated regional documents. Undertaking efforts to classify the Płock-Modlin railway line as a line of national importance. Adding the building of Modlin Airport City to the list of key projects to be realized as part of the Mazovian Region Regional Development Program.
